beautiful country. i learned a new word - "brumbies" - which i looked up & found out they are feral horses. that large rainbow trout was a beauty. always enjoy your videos. it's especially interesting to watch videos from another country. i live in the US. Australia is a lovely country & i love the accent.

Australia has over 400,000 brumbies just roaming the south eastern countryside. Not belonging to anyone. Just free. It also has over 300,000 feral camels in the desert. Again, just roaming around. Free. By far the largest free horse and camel populations in the world. It is one wild, crazy, amazing place.

There's lots of variations with Dingo's, alpine are lighter, Beach dwellers are sandy, etc. Same with Spiders. Platypus in central Queensland highlands are small compared to Northern Rivers, NSW. There's a great documentary about the dingo by a UNSW researcher, done over several years, in the Jamison Valley 2787. His DNA study concluded they have less domestic dog in them than presumed. I love the Brumby, the Lighthorse legacy. 😉

Hi, just a little thing, when you leave a hut, set the fire, leave matches so the next person finds it, here’s why, let’s say you are lost, wet and cold, you come across the hut, could you imagine how you would feel finding the fire place ready. Just a little thing that can make a hikers day.

Great vid, thanks. Re casting, try and keep looking straight ahead to where you want the fly to go, and bring your rod back and forth more directly above your shoulder, rather than out to the side. Less wear and tear on your body in the long run, and more accurate casting.

Snow melt and rain can scare anglers off of trout water, but it's actually quite a good time to fish. The increased flow kicks up debris and entrains more invertebrates/insects, and the higher speeds of the system push fish into shelter. If you can put your fly on a decent bubble line and near the bottom, you're going to hook up. It's really good weather for tight line nymphing. Glad to see this hut is in good condition and the river was fishing well enough for you to catch that nice little rainbow hen. Loving the fly fishing content, mate. If you're ever keen for a fish up in high country Victoria, let me know. Tight lines.

Absolutely outstanding Scotty. Sadly, I've taken up Bushcraft and bushwalking too late in life. I'm 60 in April and I'm not a fit or healthy 60. I would love to be able to walk the distances that you do but I can't. I have to be content with staying closer to my vehicle. Still, you have been such a huge inspiration to me to get outdoors and give it a go. I was behind on 2 of your videos so today is catch up day. This is one, now to watch number two. Keep up the great work mate, you're a legend.

Bead head pheasant tail nymph and variants with a bit of orange, pink or red for dirty water, bead head hares ear with a little chartreuse for dirty water. A wooly bugger ( small for rivers ) is always a good fall back early in the season, I Cary a couple of chenille worm fly for flooded rivers when it starts going over the grass. Adjust your depths fish tends to be on the edges of currents and down low in the water column when it’s running fast. Just add more weight if your not getting to the bottom. Humpy, deer hair caddis, royal stimulator, royal wolf, deer hair wolf, small foam and deer hair for dry droppers. Can’t go wrong with a royal coachman for a searching fly pattern though in small streams! Awesome footage, awesome place 👏🏼

Interestingly today the environment ministry approved a new plan to managed the horse populations. Down from over 14,000 to 3,000 in five years. This is a start and a much more manageable number. In the 1990s and 2000s I spent hundreds of days in the snowies and brumbies were rare. This is the way it should be.
