In college my buddies and I rented one of those. Enterprise had an unlimited mile special if you rented a vehicle for a month. We all chipped in and took a month long trip around the USA during the winter break of 1993. We put 12,000 miles on it! Great vans.

I have almost the same van. 1994 Astro work van, 252,000 miles. Bought it from a local salvage yard and drove it home. No rust, tilt wheel, A/C, cruise control, ABS brakes. Put new brake pads and shoes on it, a new serpentine belt, new fuel pump. Drove it from Central Florida to Williston North Dakota pulling a trailer with a Bugeye Sprite on it. Then to Sturgis SD and back home to Florida. Paid $780 for it, have about $400 more into it now. Going to drive her to Sturgis again this year. I love it.

We have a few of these in our fleet at work. That back door handle is a very common fail on these vans. I'd be surprised if that's the original transmission. They usually go bad at around 100,000 miles but we do have one that has 175000mi on its original. The 4.3 is definitely the strong point of these vans. Reliable if property cared for and it does get up and go when you need it to.

If the engine stalls on rainy days, run a ground wire from the coil body to a cast iron metal as a ground or the battery negative cable. Put RTV on the distributor cap bottom to seal the cap. Replace the coil and distributor cap and rotor and module.

As others are mentioning, those are vinyl seats rather than leather. When I was younger vinyl was an upgrade option on even top level cars such as the Oldsmobile 98 and the Buick Electra. We called the "dog dish wheel covers" poverty caps. I, too, like that wheel set up. I think Chevy used the same wheel/caps on police cars and cabs in the late 70's to early 90's.

@gosportjamie7 жыл бұрын
I would imagine those seats are probably vinyl rather than leather on a van that basic. But it looks like it was probably maintained pretty well, there's the new alternator under the hood and it also looks like some of the air conditioning service parts have been replaced fairly recently too. It certainly sounds sweet enough, and the fact that it's still wearing all four dog dish hub caps suggest that the owner must have been at least a little careful with it as I'm sure they're pretty easy to lose. It's a bit bashed but how many work vans aren't, they seem to collect dents. I don't imagine fixing the back door handle is too hard a job as long as it opens from the inside and then it'll make someone a useful, cheap van for a year or two, or maybe longer...
