It's wild, 20 years ago I worked in retrofits but it was t12 to t8 florescents.

​@@ProjectShopFl in 2003-4 we changed the Islands of Adventure parking garage lights, from t12 to t8, and it wasn't even 5 years old. Hearing the Spiderman song repeated for 12 hours a day was torture 😂

Those bulbs are a microscrappers dream. You could probably sell them on to someone to pull apart piece by piece

So the strobing issue that I've run into on those in the past is when one of the two power converters from AC to DC fail. Saw that in a number of the early corncob versions like that. Nothing like giving people seizures!

So I've got a big load of these power supply adapters that have low grade boards in them, some small amount of copper and aluminum. They're the bi product left overs of the wire I cut from them. I broke down several of them and brought them to the yard I've been dealing with. They only offered me a penny a pound for the circuit board that comes out of them. Not hard to break down. I can do, 5-6 in a minute. I've decided to just throw them in my shred. Ingenico model PSM24w-080. Got about 1000 lbs. of them I'm working on.

Don’t worry about the gold in LEDs, there’s so little it’s not worth it. Also, most of the boards you’ve come across and shown you’re saving are low grade boards which sell for next to nothing

@12:00 or so - yes, my yard would buy that as is as a low grade board or power board. Board prices vary a lot depending on where you are, I think I’ve gotten 20-35 cents/lb for low grade recently.

The powerboards are in the EU 0,95 euro per kilo. can go as high as 9 euro for the best boards. keep saving them;-)

Each little surface mount LED has a small whisker of gold bonding wire in it. It would probably take kilograms of them to yield grams of gold

It may be worth making a sort of blade type adapter for that thing you use to push out the core of transformers to get the windings, and use it to break off the tiny leds from the boards. maybe convert that into a horizontal motion, lock the board on desk surface and rub blade over the pcb horizontally. The circuit board with aluminum backing may be accepted as aluminum of some sort or maybe it's worth saving for a future time where they accept it or maybe you could crush a bunch of them to recover the aluminum.

Hey, careful with that axe Eugene, first time commenting, but watch your videos and like them every time they come out! Those coils that you're referring to as toro transformers are actually induction coils with those larger capacitors they filter out the noise in the supply.

those little boards go for $.40 a pound at my buyer, while i scrap almost anything, computers, servers boards is what i scrap the most.

Such a profligacy scrapping working LEDs for aluminum and copper. Cost of production is much much bigger than cost of materials. Isn't there any aftermarket for used LEDs?

Not really, who wants a light that you have no warranty or know when it will fail.

Those are power supply boards they should have a power supply category at the scrap yard, the should accept them as psu

Those circuit boards would be considered power boards talk to the scrap yards and see what they give you for them leave the little transformer on and they should buy the whole thing

That's where its going micro process that tequires a shredder and a air seperation system couse theres alluminum and copper in everything t.v.s toasters led's cd players and it all requires a shredder and magnet belt onto air seperation by weight of the metals and plastics .

That's low grade board I get 15 cents for them. That's the same with everything or everything taking off. So if it has a large coils on it I take off and the extruded aluminum off.

Seem like you would go micro scrapping with those light power supply board are definitly low grade board . But if you really into it there is silver in small light blue capacitor , nano gold bond wire in some 3 leg transistor/regulator and other stuff for sure , very interesting world and to be honest as the precious metal.price keep rising ...one day.. it would be profitable...

Most of the little boards go as low grade in holland we are very good in ewaste recycling these are the lowest boards i get almost 1.50 euro per kilo thats around 2 dollar a pound i should save them al up

those boards from lights i get irony ally in uk just leave the donuts on , i take transformers and ally off and get paid for sheet ally and motors on the transformer

So, yes there is little money in those boards. But I would say it's not worth your time to anything else other than throw it in a 55 gall. Drum and take it in once full. You should get around .25- .35 cents a pound. It may be more profitable to find a buyer to sell them as working bulbs

I get for scrap but what if you advertise the as use light for a price I don’t know how much but 20 bucks a piece are what ever maybe you could sell a bunch that would be way more than scrap
