I started a social media fast on the 18th of April and have discovered a lot of interesting things. First, I don't try to "multi-task" as much now. My attention is slowly getting better. Instead of watching 15-60 second tiktok videos I can sit down and enjoy a 10-30 minute video without doing something else. Second, it was difficult the first few days without those apps that I can spend hours a day on, or cycling between them hoping for some new stimulus. But now my phone is a tool instead of a crutch. I have been messaging people more. It's more a communication device than an entertainment device. It's also been nice to actually use it to learn things, or to journal on a bit. It's utilitarian instead of mindless scrolling. Third, I'm a lot more productive and engaging. I actually do the day to day things that need to be done or attend to my needs. I'm present with my partner and with our pets. I'm hoping to start a movement practice of some sort, and reading physical books. Maybe in the long run I can actually become creative again. Fourth and final aspect I've noticed is my mental health feels better already. I'm not bombarded by ads anymore. I'm not constantly being reminded that there's war and mass ignorance and echo chambers of divisive perspectives. I'm free to enjoy my life now.

Dear Merik, That's truly beautiful to hear. Great to hear you've been benefitting to this extent from your social media fast. Keep flowing like that, or at least implement it from time to time. It does do wonders. Peace and good vibes! 🙏

First of all, Happy Birthday, Michäel; I hope you had a wonderful day! Second, thank you for addressing the issue of screen addiction. One of the things I am trying to do is to become less and less dependent on technology so it doesn't distract me from connecting with my source or get in the way of my life and productivity, etc. I have a couple questions related to this: 1. I do asana sessions on a regular basis, and I like to do them first thing in the morning with the intention of starting my mornings with connecting with my source. However, I always rely on technology (videos) for guidance, as I don't feel experienced enough to guide myself; and in doing so, I find that that I often get distracted and lured away from myself when using technology for this purpose. Do you have any advice on how I can learn to guide myself? 2. Are there any specific locations/environments that you would recommend for doing yoga? I'm guessing it's probably not a good idea to do it in a location/environment where there are distractions, e.g. technology and screens.

I am now addicted to your Videos, oops. Haha. I don't have any social media except KZbin. That is only for educational purpose only. I am happy guy. Put the phone in Grey. Thanks. I will try that as much as possible.

Love the grey scale tip. I will do my best to keep it away from my bed too 'cause I have a habit of using my tablet before sleep and when I first wake up. Do you think avoiding devices like these will make less stimulating activities such as reading more enjoyable? By the way thank you for the pranayama course. I used it to quit smoking and it has really made a difference in my meditation.

Dear Caleb, Thank you for your kind words. Glad to hear how these beautiful breathing techniques had such a great impact on you to quit smoking and how it has improved your meditation as a result of that. That's truly wonderful, keep flowing like that! When we disconnect from all the technology, all those tablets, computers, TV, etc... reading will become more enjoyable ;) put the question to the test and you'll see its benefits. Wishing you a beautiful day and start to the week 🙏 Peace and good energy!

My tip would be to have a baby, then you don't have time to play with your cell phone anymore and of course you know how to be a good role model. ;-)

I am addicted to screen 😩 it is what I do all day, maybe because I live alone and I have no friends ( I have just online friends who live in another country) and my job is online 😐 I really Don know what to do

Dear Maria, Working online doesn't mean you have a screen addiction ;) but it's good to take some off-screen time as well. To reconnect with yourself, with nature, read a book, etc... Wishing you a beautiful start to the week! Peace and good energy 🙏

Great advice. It feels so good to read a paper book. Also keeping a paper journal ( vs. Journaling via computer ) helps with this slowing down the mind.
