I also feel like that’s a reference to Avengers 2012 when various references fly over Steve’s head like when Coulson mentions Steven Hawking, but when Fury mentions flying monkeys Thor doesn’t get it but Steve excitedly says he understood the reference for once. Similar to how falcon jumping out the plane with no plan is also a reference to Avengers 2012.

Dr. Samuel Sterns would be really cool as the Powerbroker. He was obsessed with the Hulk's power in the Incredible Hulk which is all wrapped up in the super soldier program. Plus, he has a direct connection to Thunderbolt Ross and all of this would make for a cool soft introduction to him becoming The Leader in later projects like She-Hulk.

What I find interesting about this iteration of Johnny Walker is that he didn't (to me) really come out like the right-winger he was in the comics. I'm sure that may come later. However, as aa 17 year Army vet, he came across like one of those guys who come out of the Citadel or West Point stamped with a certain world view that just doesn't fit reality. So they say and do things the rest of us just roll out eyes and mouth to each other, "Is this guy for real?" So yeah, annoying officer who believes the officer training videos too much. The type who says, "It's a great training opportunity" when things go wrong. I had forgotten Battlestar completely even though I had those comics where he first came out. Still, when I saw him in the locker room, I groaned because at first I thought they were doing the "Magical Negro" trope of the wise, old POC who gives wisdom to the green white protagonist. However, in the context of the US Army, having an older, POC enlisted guy running shotgun with a white officer is VERY common as there are a lot of POC in the enlisted ranks...just not so much in the officer branch. So to me Lamarr is less Battlestar and more of the seasoned veteran (as a command sergeant major, Lamarr probably could retire) who ensures the officer (i.e. Walker) doesn't mess up too badly. Also, while there was a Vought vibe to the opening scene, girlfriend/wife and then "you're up" with Lamarr, regardless of the optics of the black man being supportive/subservient to the white Captain America, I do think it's actually very much in just being a normal Army thing. Oh, and I'm VERY happy they got the uniform right. If there is one thing I hate is messing up the uniforms. Did like that Walker was wearing an Army PT shirt when practicing with the shield. Nice touch. I do think, however, that whoever is doing the show needs to know that someone like Walker would NEVER let themselves get a 5oClock shadow. I knew a LOT of officers who kept a electric razor in a pouch (when in the field) or in their desk just so they could shave throughout the day to ensure they were 'regulation' so seeing Walker having one (even if it was late in the evening) was a bit jarring. Also, given the Deadpool film didn't go the whole Kilmonger route, it is possible that the Power Broker is someone similar who will later become important to the Weapon X program. Sort of a stand in for Stryker. I'm thinking that the Power Broker may be different from the Corporate one in the comics if only because of The Boyz and Vought Industries. A lot of viewers will be familiar more with that show than the old comics. Also, the DoD had an entire program to hype the military at sporting events (especially in the NFL) so the opening scene is again, taken from real life. Also, the Flag-Smashers have an interesting parallel to the people of Gotham after the Earthquake. You had the people who stayed vs the people who left and then returned. So it is easy to see how the non-Snapped feel betrayed that they did all this work and survived only to be "ignored" after the return of those people. Not that I agree with them but it is easy to see where they are coming from. Plus, I'm thinking while Disney probably won't get into it (very subversive) I'm betting a LOT of things got done that everyone once said, "That can never happen here!" during the Blip and a lot of that might now under fire to go back to the old status quo. I can see a LOT of people not wanting that and I'd agree with them.

Actually Hoskins was called Bucky first when he initially teamed with Walker after he became Captain America. He later changed his name to Battlestar because another character informed him of the derogatory history of calling black male slaves Buck or Bucks.

Thankfully it was rectified. Some words go away after awhile. There was a restaurant here in Missouri called Sambos. I know what that means. My nephews and niece have never heard the term. I think that's a good thing. It's like people never learn about derogatory speech. That's encouraging to me. I think Grunwald simply made a mistake, maybe a little insensitive, but they fixed it. Bucky's time in Wakanda has room for clarity. He started off going there to be frozen, but he wasn't the next time we saw him. There have been a lot of call backs already in the first two episodes, so maybe that will be explained.

“Black Falcon” is a nod how Black superheroes in comics/cartoons are mostly referred by their skin color. Example, Black Goliath, Black Lightning, Black Vulcan, etc. It’s how White heroes never go by their skin color. You never hear anybody call Aquaman as “White Fish”.

It seems to me that John Walker is a jerk - he's nice to his friends, when things are going his way, and when he's on public display, but if people don't do what he wants then he can get nasty. I suspect that when he gets hold of some super soldier serum he's going to take it due to feeling inadequate next to the memory of Steve Rogers, and it will amplify his ego and make him more unstable, leading him to become an enemy to our heroes Sam and Bucky.
