G35 Gauge cluster removal: Sending the cluster out to fix the gas gauge, turn signal lights

I’m good with clutch, timing belts replacement on Hondas. The 2006 G35x is my first CANBUS car. When the cluster comes back, I’m jumping into the fuel sensor replacement to fix the gas gauge CEL code.

I replaced both the driver and passenger side sending units, and it ended up being the cluster. You can try cleaning the sending unit for both sides and it’s actually hard to find the pump one. I eventually found it as the top part of the pump assembly only, but in the end it was all money I didn’t have to spend. It’s hard to say

I love my car way more than all I've had (G35) but God damn is this massive steps to simply pull out the cluster. On a Honda you can have it out in 5 mins.

so i got my cluster repaired and both fuel pumps changes and the gauge still doesnt read right, is there a fuse i might need to change or something? , thanks in advanced

Both sending units changed? Just verifying since you said fuel pumps and there is only one fuel pump but 2 sending units, one on each side. If none of those work, it must be some wiring problem in a harness or connection. It will be hard to find but you can do a continuity test on the fuses and the wiring (just be careful near the fuel tank with the fumes and ignition risk). It was gone for about a month being fixed, so plan for that. Just compare to the price in the video and see if it’s worth it

Got the same issue. Do you know if I buy a used instrument cluster from the same year as my G35, will that work removing the check engine light or does it have to be brand new

The check engine light will be for whatever is wrong, so it fixed my check engine light when I had the cluster repaired because the light was for the gas gauge malfunction, which was the cluster itself. Some cars require the cluster to match the car’s key or computer so you might need to ask about that one first.

Just wondering, does your gauge cluster have socketed bulbs for the backlights or are they Soldered LEDs? My check engine light stopped working and I removed my cluster to find out that they’re not socketed bulbs. I called infiniti to see if they have a part number for those leds. Rep. said it’ll be 1300 to replace the whole unit. They don’t have those LED replaces. So I said fuck that. I’m going to try to find LEDs to solder them.
