The lesson here folks is that the sniper intake is designed specifically for boost, which is why you can bolt a Hellcat TB to it. I'm fairly certain the 6.4 intake didn't have active runners working properly. I've seen north of 20 HP on the dyno between the 6.4 & 5.7 intake.

Runners were active. The gains are on trucks. The car intake does not pick up anything. We and many others on engine dynos have verified this across the country. HHP had a post about it as well.

Way back in 2008-2009 I had a srt 6.1 charger with a Ed Curtis cam almost identical to the stage 2 in this video. (218/224 @ 112). That car was basic bolt on, long tubes, cammed, 3200 stall and for a long time was the quickest “cam only” 6.1 in the country. It ran an 11.6 @ 117 with a 1.59 60ft. That little cam screamed. Id race guys with 440’s and they’d only pull on me at the very top.

That stage 2 is the way to go. The best bang for your buck for the street. Even any type of forced induction the stage 2 would be perfect.

I’d love to see the stage 3 with the holly hi ram mixed with the stock TB. I’m really on the fence about intakes but I really think the high ram will give better torque

Interesting how the Stage 2 didn't start making more power until over 4,000 RPM. One of the advantages of going with a 6.4 over a cammed 5.7 is a LOT more power under 4k. Nice gains on the top end with all 3 cams. I would love to see this same experiment on the .46

I have a 2015 5.7 4x4 truck with long tube headers and full exhaust and tune but im looking to wake it up with a cam swap. Definitely enjoyed lots of good info to think about

Gentlemen, thank you for this video and information. I was NOT expecting the results with the 6.4L intake manifold!! That really surprised me, to say the least, as everything the interwebs has to say is that it will improve bottom-end torque, as well as upper-RPM HP numbers. Not so, says the all-important dyno. However, I would've like for you to have posted the graph with the 6.4 intake, to see if there was any pickup (better street characteristics) along the way to 6500RPM. Because I have a '14 Challenger, with the 5.7, I will likely go with the Stage 2 package. I still I drive my car almost every day and it seems to be the most manageable with great gains over the stock bumpstick. My Tremec does not care about the stall speed, as that's dictated by my feet action. 😆 Again, thank you for this info. Keep the videos coming with the Gen 3 Hemi's. It would be cool if you guys could collaborate with Frankenstein Performance, southeast of you in Weatherford, to have some mild porting done to those crate heads. Then, re-run the tests with the three cams. 😎 -- Ronbo --

That 6.4 intake has active runners controlled by the factory ecu, they are not using a factory ecu so no active runners.

Crazy how I paid a guy to dyno tune my 5.7 eagle with long tubes and Tsp stage 2 cam non vvt non mds and upgraded valve springs on fresh heads and only put 369/370 to the ground through the 5 speed. Thinking how glad a tuner he is ... this makes me sad to know I have uncammed my car because it couldn't pass emissions because of a bad tuner

Great video and lots of good useful info. I see it's a crate motor, but is it a 2003-2008 or 2009+ block and heads? In other words, Eagle engine.

What you got for a 5.7 from a 2005 Model, i saw your cams where done on a 2009 or newer Hemi. Info would be nice i want to rebuild mine and want some Cam added to it. So far all your info is very on point & the performance sheets.

How did you activate the short runner on the 6.4 manifold? I was a little confused did you just run it once on the short runner once on the long or did you activate the runner during the pull?

We did once on the long runner and once on the short runner. We weren't able to sweep it during the pull (we could have, but we didn't have the SRV harness). The gains between the two still weren't anything worth writing home about.

If i could afford it It definitely time My truck is a pre eagle 345 5.7 at 276k valvecover are starting to leak am sure the headgasket and lifters cam are ready to be replaced a long with the timing set and waterpump Thermostat. Shoot id even replace the oil pump to i like my truck even though she flaking in spots and the seat are need replaced

Might try a cam from Powell Machine back east somewhere on utube. He grinds them from cores etc. at least talk to him. He seems to have reasonable prices. And knowledge. Just remember everyone is human and only Jesus was perfect. As far as I know he didn’t grind cams. But he did save lost souls and still in business.

so im a little late to the party here and admittedly only about halfway through the video. but what do you think the additional power gains would be with a ported intake and ported heads? because i plan on the 392 intake, ported heads, headers and a cam on my 17 Charger RT

Ported heads and intake would definitely make a substantial difference. We had limited time on the dyno as it is used every day for customer engine builds.

The debate is still ongoing. I'm about to give up on it. People only want us to validate their decision to put a 6.4 manifold on. Water brake engine dynos don't lie. If it ain't pumping more water, it ain't making more power.

5.7 is a larger market ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ We would have loved to have more time to do a 6.4, maybe later. The headers are Kooks, but they are dyno headers.

Man, this makes me really sad. My engine dynoed at 280 hp, brand new from ATK with the comp cams h268 cam and valve springs and such, all the goodies they put in. I feel like my tuner may have lied and didnt actually do any tuning on the dyno and just ran it once on a canned tune to get rid of me...but i dunno what to do about it. Worst feeling ever. To make it even worse... shes got a higher stall TC, headers, intake, fresh rebuilt trans, exhaust (headers-back).

I would definitely find a competent tuner, put it on a dyno and get the power out of that combo. There may be something missing, like injectors, etc. You are probably right, though. Some "tooners" use a canned tune and just push you out of the door with no CEL's. They think your butt dyno will keep them out of hot water, and in good graces, with you. I'm assuming those are WHP numbers. It WILL cost you more money, though, sadly. If you don't mind, share the tooners name.

You need a tune for sure, however you will see a wheel number with parasitic loss at the belt end too. This engine is crank HP with limited accessories. That being said 280hp doesn't sound right.

@@Terruhcutta True that! They DO list crank HP, don't they? Then add the accessory drive loss, plus the drivetrain loss, and that equates to wheel HP. Was it Holdener that dyno'ed an engine with just an electric water pump, then again with full accessories?

Great video. I'm installing a new remanufactured 5.7 in my 2012 ram 1500 4x4. I liked your stage 1 or el chappo cam. And your stage 2 cam. I'm looking for great hp all around and torque. What cam do you have that will give me what I'm looking for. If I can make that 460,475 hp ,that's what I'm looking for . Please let me know what you recommend.

Not run well on a 5.7 is what it would do. You really need to stroke up to 426 cubes to use it well.

Was the active intake runner system enabled during the pulls on the 5.7 intake? If so, that would explain why the sniper lost so much torque over the stock manifold. I was also curious on your timing cover and belt set up. Where did you source the timing cover, idler pully, and how long is the belt?

Look up Engine Masters. They took an Eagle 5.7 from a Ram. Put a compcam in it and used long tube headers, with stock truck active intake, and the Holley Terminator system firing it. It made 500 hp. The 2009+ 5.7 heads flow 330 cfm on the intake side. To put that in perspective, thats the same flow as the 1970 LS6 454 heads.

I love my '13 5.7 hemi chrysler 300. However I'm a regular guy with regular money lol. Don't want to buy something, have the motor torn apart to install and then it dont work.

@nicholasrouley675 trust me I understand! I was always a fox body Mustang guy. Got this 2014 Charger Pursuit and fell in love with the Gen3 Hemi. You can add a 6.4 intake and wire the active runners up using a MSD window switch, and those add 25-30 hp to the 5.7.

Tremec tr6060 will handle a ton and they came behind these engines and the 6.4 and hellcat engines factory in rt and srt vehicles. That’s probably the best option

I have a Ram 1500 5.7 250,000 miles doesn't burn any oil runs really great but I have a knock I want to put a cam and lifters in it I was thinking about the stage 2 do I have to change the springs and the push rods

There is no way there should have been a loss with the 6.4 intake I grantee the runners weren't activated.

The 6.4 intake on my other Challenger was a great addition. I had already installed the stage 2 hrt comp cam. I had lost some power down low. But the 6.4 intake manifold brought back that low end and I felt a great pull throughout my rpms.

2019 Charger 6.4L. Have you done a comparison for the 6.4? Looking to get into the 500+ hp range, daily driver, with a nice sound. Tired of boosted 4 4 bangers and GT's hurting my family boats feelings... No mods done to the engine yet.

Something isnt right with that 392 intake run. ive seen tests done where this intake helps across the whole rpm range. especially from just off idle to mid rpms. then starts to level off and give you the same kind of gains as a 6.1 intake.

@@Sdpartscenter the 5.7 eagle truck intake actually flows better than the pre eagle (car) intake. I know the eagle car I take is a little better as well compared to the pre eagle (2005-2008). Not sure on the comparison between the eagle intake and the 392 though.

Doubt they can control the active runners. Those intakes are crap when those don’t work.

The truck 5.7 intake is pretty well known to not flow due to the throttle body angle. Any intake manifold is better than that one just about.

@@joshkrause2977 The runners were controlled manually. All positions tried. Past 4000 rpm the difference was negligible.

What brand, length, and width of push rods did you use for the El Chopo and the Stage 2? Bought this cam for my 22 5.7 challenger. Need correct length of push rods.

Yes all our cams are ground on OEM base circle and will need 6.8/8.1 pushrods.

The runners were tried in both positions. The switch point is 4000 RPM. There was a difference in the dyno numbers below that 4000 RPM mark, however, neither position had a real gain over the stock intake manifold.

I tow, I’d like to see a max 5500 rpm torque tune with cams intake and headers that maximize torque, I haven’t run and up to 6000 rpm in 40 years. High rpm Hp means nothing in the real world of trucks! Unless you’re a boy racer.

Did you use the same tune for all cams? Wouldn't the ideal tune be different?

Timing was the same, AFR was commanded the same. So if a cam moved more or less air the afr automatically adjusts. This really allows for back to back comparisons on just the cam without skewing it by tuning.

This is for the later VVT and MDS equipped 5.7. If you're looking for that, feel free to give us a call, there are options out there but we don't have a specific cam grind for your setup.

I don't like that you didn't run the holleu intake till it nosed over, looked like it was headed to 7000rpm which would have netted more HP gain and generally faster ET.... But the REAL question is does any of this kit, fix the lifter failure issues?

Typically no, you need a high volume oil pump for that. Deleting the mds helps a little.

Taking a stock bottom end Hemi past 6500 RPM is just asking for a rapid unscheduled disassembly. Grab another gear and use the Hemi's unique torque curve.
