Hey sir I have a question. When you remove the rocker and do the install does it need to go back on the same valve or does that really matter? 130k mi motor. Has a bit of surface wear where the valve runs but not to bad. Thank you in advance.

According to GM SI yes, all Valvetrain parts must go back to their original locations
@milojanis49012 жыл бұрын
@Airman I agree. I ALWAYS put the rocker back on the valve it has worn to. If the valve stem tips have been resurfaced, then I'd buy new rockers......

It's not necessary but you can go with them whenever you plan to do a camshaft and spring upgrade.

Is there anything unique about the retainer clips used at the ends. Previous owner of my car (08 vette, ls3), did the upgrade set with the bronze bushings. I pulled the valve covers off and found two of the rockers to be off center and have broken retaining clips on one side. Clip was still on just pushed to the siding and missing one of the snap ring ends for the pliers to grab at. I want to make sure I can repress them straight and add a new retaining/snap ring from hardware store
@Sdpartscenter3 жыл бұрын
I cannot confirm if the snap ring used is special or generic. you can try to find a replacement, but no guarantees it will work. I know BTR offers a trunnion retainer clip for individual purchase, but not sure if they are the correct inside diameters or not.

Even if you have a stock ls3 or lsa.. DO THE CHE BUSHINGS. Why? Over kill for longevity. Not only that. But let’s be honest? We rev the hell out of these engines. We spend time in the higher rpm’s because that’s what we love. This should be a must and recommendation by default. I hope someone understands what I’m getting at. It’s worth the money.

What lift and rpm are the stock trunnion able to withstand?
@Sdpartscenter4 жыл бұрын
They're really fine for stock applications. Some people might do an aftermarket cam on low-mile, low-abuse engines and get away with it. But for the cost and time involved, we tend to recommend it if you're making any significant changes with a cam install. It's just more of a CYA move.

CHE vs Steve Morris durability?
@iMaRtYz3 жыл бұрын
I personally wouldn’t recommend the bronze/brass type kits. If you want a good trunnion upgrade. I would go with the Brian Tooley v2 TK002 kit.
@slowpoke96Z283 жыл бұрын
@@iMaRtYz is this based on research/experience or theory alone? i can imagine the needle and race trunnion having more advocates for durability as thats what GM uses, but we all know GM isnt only making choices based on what's best for the engine or vehicle. needle an race may meet their life expectancy average, but is it really the best? at this point its all academic for me cause i had to place my order already.
@Sdpartscenter3 жыл бұрын
We don't have any of the Steve Morris kit on hand, but they're more than likely comparable. You wouldn't be steered wrong going with a BTR kit as well. We run the CHE trunnion kit on a variety of LS engines we build in the Raceshop, some of these are full tilt LS7's that are road raced, run on the autocross courses and other forms of abuse at high rpm and a lot of valvetrain shock. Best of luck on the build!
@milojanis49012 жыл бұрын
@@iMaRtYz I went with the BTR kit you mentioned. One important thing you said, and way too many others say, as well, is "bronze or brass." Trust me, there are no brass kits available for trunnions OR valve guides. You might get a week or 2 of durability out of brass. It is soft, REALLY SOFT. Anyone who would manufacture brass guides and/or trunnions wouldn't be manufacturing them long, because they'd be pure junk........
