Seriously though, I think that because "sea monster" is such a vague term, it's possible to define it in such a way that would make them real. For example, if someone said "I consider collosal squids to fit the definition on sea monsters and therefore there are sea monsters that are real" I would not argue with that. And I don't think that emma would argue with that, either. Basically I'm not trying to disagree with emma's stance, I'm just nitpicking the title. Also, I'm writing this comment before watching the video, so I don't know emma's stance

@ville__ Wow, you must make a lot of feminist content, then. Along with the content that you say gabi bell and kurtis connor stole, you're having a really rough time of it. All these much larger creators stealing from you, a very humble feminist comedian, but you get no credit (other than the comments you leave under the top comments on their videos) Where, pray tell, can i find these hilarious, informative videos of yours? I checked your channel, but all thats there is a community post with a link to a video with lots of nazi imagery. Strange...

The logical explanation for the Japanese sea creature is that it is literally a joke made up by people on 2chan (the Japanese precursor to 4chan). It's really difficult to explain the nuance, but they wrote it like ニンゲン (ningen) in katakana rather than 人間 (ningen) to make it sound more like a creature than just literally the word human in Japanese. Also, it's pronounced with a hard 'g' sound.

I went to Catholic schools, and asked Monsignor Francis Duffy (a well respected leader in the church) about the contradictions in the Bible, his response was to take the stories in the Bible with a pinch of salt!. @@williamwood7338 To be fair, that was the element of the church I had the least problem with. I was told to ignore the Old Testament and treat the New Testament as a group of parables, a set of stories with lessons. As a grown man, the sound made me raise an eyebrow at how anyone could fear that noise, but be intrigued by it. Biblical conspiracy theorist is a great term. It gets to the heart of it: Taking parts of the Bible literally and then massively over-reading outside context in to the text. It's also nicely differentiates from the conspiracy theory that is Young Earth Creationism, as that's another semi-literal Bible reading but puts the conspiracy outside the text and instead on 3rd parties who disagree with whatever YEC view is being taken. It also nicely incorporates flat earth conspiracies, either in a YEC or non-YEC vein that are Biblically derived. Again, great term that we should use more often as a community where it's apt.

Oh my goodness, Emma, thank you for that one! Huge praise must be heaped upon you. Enduring this even once is torture, so I can't imagine how could get through it twice. As an extremely grown man, I will testify that I was indeed crying--from laughter. I have countless musician friends who can reproduce that noise perfectly using any number of sundry instruments or devices, I'm sure. You've most certainly sharpened your wit over the years, and there were countless examples in this one. I was loudly laughing out loud several times here, and so I thank you again. And as always... God damn it, Connla! (I hope you don't mind me usurping your bit. It was just such a sweet piece of schtick, and I'm sorry to see it go. However, I'm happy that you now have enough supporters that you can no longer read them off at the end. I have only a few surmises as to how it all got started, but I'm sure glad it did!)

I'm a geologist. I spent the first part of the video VERY confused. First I was like "Yay, my science is a sponsor" and then you started talking skin care... 😅😂 -That's literally what bioluminecent means, my dude... - Ah, yes, the bloop... It's totally ice, I've heard enough glacier shifting (I slept above on, once, spent the whole night going "f I'm cold.", it was great.) I love the showdown, it's so absurd. - My child's first favorite book was C is for Chthulu. I could probably still quote it. - Manatees were mistaken for mermaids, and it claimed they would lure sailors to die. Does this convince Joe too? - Oh, you said it. - "what god says" How does that verse apply? - Apparently he doesn't realize whales exist? In the psalms verse, you go straight to "mythical monster"? Dude absolutely believes in mermaids. He should visit the west coast of the US and we'll introduce him to Sasquach. No, that's 100% NOT a bear with mange, we promise. Have faith. - I think they found placodermi fossils. Dunk had massive armor plates on it's eyeballs. - done and done.

Thank you for my Saturday afternoon giggle! Two thoughts from this (mainline Protestant) biblical scholar/pastor: 1) The modern Hebrew word for whale is “leviathan” (transliterated, since I don’t have a Hebrew keyboard on my tablet) 2) Adding to your list of things that the bible is not - not written by a single author in a single time period. There is no singular description of the leviathan in the bible, just as there is no singular description of a dragon in modern English-language literature. (And a bonus 3rd thought - I’m very disappointed that Joe didn’t explore the leviathan as described in the book of Job into his video. Here, leviathan is something feared by people, yet part of a litany of things that God created and that God delights in - Job 41 describes the fearsome leviathan, but it has to be taken in the context of Job 38-41. But I guess moving beyond prooftexting would risk destroying his worldview.)

My favourite see monster must be Jǫrmungandr, from Norse mythology, the serpent that is so large, it circumvents the Earth and bites its own tail. People used to believe in all sorts of cryptozoology until people began to explore the world and found that not only those creatures did not exist, but that the actual animals in those far lands were even stranger than imagined.
@BooksandBuns

I wouldn't call a mythical god serpent a 'cryptid'. Cryptozoology is a very specific type of conspiracy theory, & conflating it with folklore & mythology is, like, really offensive. Especially for Jormungandr who's the son of a god, & not just some regular sea monster
