i think you've misunderstood the intention of the inclusion of other crews in the world. You seem to be talking about only PVE and only PVP as if they are 2 different "modes" of play. In the pinned comment you even say you avoid PvP and it takes too long to engage in it. The game is about player interactions. A ship in the distance doesnt have to be a PvP encounter, thats why you are given voice chat and tools to enable communication. Likewise, there's always the element of the unknown, which is what the game is actually about (I would compare this to games like DayZ, which you could apply all these critiques to). You don't know what other crews are doing, if they are planning to make a move on you or steal from you or if they are actually friendly. This, along with the fact that an entire hours long game session can lead to you losing everything you've collected in that time are what builds tension in the game and makes those player encounters have weight. Let's use DayZ again as an example. Sure there are games with "better" PvP (gunplay responsiveness, more fluid movement, etc), but since when has a death or a kill ever had any significance in CoD? You press a single button and you are back in game as if nothing happened. There's no memories to be made and no weight to your lives. Sea of Thieves offers a similar experience and if you are avoiding other players, you are missing out on the real core of the gameplay. It's called Sea of THIEVES for a reason. It was never intended to be a PvE single player/co op experience. Therefor, your critique of the game is mostly invalid since you have admitted to choosing not to partake in the most core aspect of the game. If you need to play games to feel a sense of progression and a feeling of becoming more powerful, this game is not for you. I play games to have fun experiences, not to "unlock" some digital BS that gives me an advantage that has nothing to do with my skill or game knowledge. Also, you made a suggestion to add items that can assist you in PvE encounters... but you ignored the fact that they already exist and some of them can be used in PvP as well. The Ashen Winds skull can decimate hoards of enemies as well as set fire to an entire enemy vessel in seconds. The Tridents (which were in your video) can also make PvE events a cake walk. Gunpowder and its mega versions are massive game changers in PvE and PvP. The chest of sorrows can be used to sink skeleton ships very quickly or even snuck onto a players ship. The chest of rage can be used as an on demand fire bomb against AI. All of these things are available to you right at the start of the game, you just have to go out and find them. EDIT: I forgot to mention cursed cannon balls and wraith balls, which again, are massive boosts to combat ability in PvE and PvP. So maybe you should actually give the game a chance on its own terms instead of going in expecting a game that it is not and will never be. At the end of the day, this game is not for everyone. It's simply not designed to be fore everyone and thats what makes it unique. Games have become so cookie cutter generic since I was a kid and having games like SoT that refuse to conform to the expectations of the average gamer are what allows for memorable experiences. Is it a perfect game? not even close, it has plenty of issues, some of them you touched on. At it's core though, it's a sandbox that allows you to have as much fun as you choose.

I just wholeheartetly disagree with most of the things you said in this video. There is a reason so many people play this game day in day out. It is an amazing experience every time you set sail with new adventures every time. Ive never had the same thing happen to me more than twice when i set sail. This is because of player interaction and the randomness of the world. And I know you said you dont play the game for the PvP. But thats the thing. This is not a PVP game. Its not a PVE game. This game is PVPVE. And removing one of the aspects of a game makes it worse. The progression is simply the way you play the game. Are you a beginner that sits at every island with his sails and ancor down. Or are you a veteran who can pinpoint accurate shoot himself onto an enemy ship and cause mayhem. You say there are plenty of other games that do the PVP better. But i disagree. Sea of Thieves style of Player vs Player combat is unique. It is a great mix of Naval and Hand to Hand combat with alot of outplay potential and room to improve. Sea of Thieves gives you the tools to carve your own path and make an adventure worthwhile. If you dont want that its fine. But saying that after 30 ish hours theres not alot to the game is plain wrong. -A pirate with over 1500 hours.

Not to mention that they add stories and events that bring people back to play with new story and adventure, like how with the Pirates of the Caribbean one, they added the giant merfolk fortress with the new tridents. I can tell thats not true since my friend started playing because of the Pirates Life event.

@mypersonalplaylist19622 жыл бұрын
Honestly, the game is not that bad when it comes to progression, I don't want to have people have better gear than me when in a battle, would much more preferer it be skill based, which is why I love sea of thieves combat, the fact that everyone is fighting on the same playing field is what makes is fun. Adding some tall tales that would explore more intricate things, that would add more story to the already decent story of the other tall tales would be nice, or even a sort of basic campaign/always going on tall tale would be pretty interesting as well. But I don't think adding armor or something that will add a sense of progression really do any good, it might pull in some other people like those who like rpgs and such, but Sea of Thieves isn't that kind of game. So I don't really think it's a good idea to do so, we have these siren staves which you can find which can act as a sort of special weapon that breaks after a while, so maybe adding more of those type of weapon could be interesting, but permeant weapons that upgrade you character, I don't think that would be good
@trigger20702 жыл бұрын
The problem i have in the game is that there is no reward for playing it, other than "The story". It has the framework of a game with progression, but lacks it at the same time, making it feel like a shell to me, reinforcing it's lack of reward. As a player who has never valued cosmetics (because I am programmed to look past them as they don't provide anything) I just can't see the value of gold, which is the point of missions. Like he said in the video, there really is no point in playing after you experience the really unique encounters once. Also, on a side tangent, the whole anti progression argument for PvP can easily be overcame by something as simple as having players play in level ranged servers lol. You just spawn in? Your in a server with other people who are new, simple as that. The skill based PvP is preserved that way.

@@trigger2070 the whole have players play in sbmm is not a solution as sea of thieves is designed around friends playing together as it rewards this by having the bigger ships be better by design also i feel like it would just divide the player base and make new players unwelcomed as they are a hinderance not just someone who needs to learn also the way sot servers work dont allow for this as you have you're own server basically and when you're nearby other players you share the server space which means that you cant really do sbmm in sot however one way to give yourself an advantage is through things you find in the open world (disney sticks, cursed cannonballs) which both allow for an advantage or equal playing field without feeling op to play against. I also feel that the only reward being cosmetics allows for them to be better imo sot has the best cosmetics and cosmetic system in gaming (apart from games with 0 microtransactions ofc) My biggest problem with sot is hit reg which is absolutely laughable and i think that is the most reasonable critique of the game from a sot veteran.

"Combat is left clicking with a sword or using a gun with a slow reload" ... blunder/fire bombs, cannons that can shoot people out of them, TNT, 6 different cursed cannon balls + phantoms, ashen skulls, Tridents... Sounds like you've understandably been conditioned by the hundreds of games that give you linear progression / upward mobility, where the progression in SoT is getting better as a player, understanding the world and it's (now) pretty extensive lore as all the stuff that you find on the islands like the paintings and such do have subtle in lore meaning to the world (nothing is meaningless), and learning how to craft your own experience to create the fun that you want to have. There's no limit cap on how much better you can get or the things you can discover in SoT. I have around ~300 ish hours in the game and I'm happy that there aren't any weapon upgrades and the reward for playing is ultimately meaningless. It's a sandbox. It's Minecraft on the sea. One thing that will really change your experience is by only doing stuff you want to do and stop doing stuff you don't like. Find and make friends. Unless the other players are reapers coming at you to steal your emissary flag, try treating other plays as comrades first until they do something to prove they aren't friendly. Interact with other players. Play with friends if/when you can. The game gives you the tools to create your own sandbox experience, you just have to use them.

I've been playing this game since 2019 and I'm still ducking irl from incoming cannonballs. It's a skill based game, your progression in game is based on your progression as a gamer. Helping new players get a hang of the game and seeing them progress is a major part of the game, be it your crewmembers or an enemy. The fact that everyone has an equal toolset is a great thing, adding power upgrades will just make it feel bland and unfair. So thank you for the review but I suggest you move on from a game like sea of thieves and play something that better suits you.

This video sums up what i experienced playing SoT well. I started playing the game after watching summit1g a while back and other minor streamers but it wasnt as i thought it would be. Adding some forms of goals, ranking systems or any type of achievements that boost your character in terms of efficacy and not soley on cosmetics would greatly improve the quality of the game. I also agree with the combat quality of the game where theres really only 2 offensive moves to be done with a sword and a block but if they added combat combinations like say God of War, it would bolster the games pvp quality and keep players playing especially solo players who I would argue make a massive percentage of regular players. I would say that if Rare adds the elements stated from the video regarding PvP especially PvE, SoT would definitely see more people coming to play a game that still has great potential. Apart from what I’ve said the adventure aspect of this game is done really well i just hope Rare adds more to combat and more complex forms of progression which is a significant experience to any game.

@@eavb-qs5nz I'd say there is already enough moves available for players to take advantage of. I've been playing the game for some time, and have never myself wished for more progression system. I HATE PvE, and whenever my friends wish to do PvE missions, I struggle not to have a mental breakdown. On the other hand, PvP in this game is simply amazing. There are so many moves you can do. You just have to be creative. Especially with your ship. When it comes to combat on land, you not only have the terrain to exploit, but you also have your melee weapon. The cutlass is very free in terms of how you use it. You can get good at vortex-ing with it, but I'm pretty sure you can also block a vortex if you're skilled. There are really not only two offensive moves with a sword. In the end I agree that the combat system might come across as a little boring and stale, but when you've truly experienced the game, it's just enough for a game where it's up to the players to make their own adventures if you know what I mean. Trust me on this one. The game is really nice for players who work 40 hours a week. Online chatting with friends, hanging out, playing music, doing some boss raids and making enemies and friends. The best part of this game is that there is no progression. That way I don't have fear of missing out when I'm at work like with games that do. If I don't play now I will get behind and have a terrible time catching up to people who don't work or study 4 hours a week. I'm going to say this now, as a player of 3 years, if your gameplay is boring and monotonous, this game is very flexible in terms of playstyles, and gives you the freedom to change it up. Unless you run into a galleon full of LSD/TSD's which makes your only option death.
@hellhound44402 жыл бұрын
But seriously, look at it different and change up the way you play. One of my favorite things to do is force an entire server into an alliance at gunpoint, because it's usually funny as hell to watch people squirm and try to wiggle out of it, but it's basically free shit for them usually. You can go around, find new players and help them learn how to play. So on and so forth. There are so many possibilities on the high seas, you just haven't explored them yet. That's why imho, this video is completely wrong and is looking at it from a heavily biased standpoint.

Ok I have played sea of thieves since the first year of release, and I see your point. However, the thrill of playing sea of thieves does not just come from the sense of exploration, or doing missions to earn gold. The thrill of the game comes from the risk of losing your loot, and the effort you put in to obtain it. While adventuring might be fun, the best feeling in sea of thieves is row boating away with someone else's loot.

IMO, sea of thieves markets to a unique audience, with either long time players interested in PVP or players like myself interested in the lore and story. The game isn’t made entertaining by the game itself, but by the interactions between players and the story concepts discovered by the community.
@Bagelodon_2 жыл бұрын
I get the whole argument of if the game can't attract you in the first certain amount of time it's bad but you got to consider. Sea of thieves is a very non new player friendly game, it heavily relys on you having a more experienced player play with you until you can get the ropes per say. The main enjoyment of this game isn't the pve or the sailing or even the atmosphere, it's that rush of fear and excitement when you stack loot on you ship for 2 or more ours only to be attacked by a galleon and come out on top. It's mainly ment to be played as a role play open world game where you enjoy the game for what it is but you create the fun within it. I will agree that if you can play this game without friends for more than 20 hours than you aren't a real human lol. But the main takeaway is that the game isn't about the gold but about the glory and the memory's good and bad that come along with it.

Part of the point of this video is that there's so many alternatives that offer more. Why would i waste time trying hard to enjoy this when there's a hundred sandbox games that are both new player friendly and offer far more depth. @kiro-fo9qg2 жыл бұрын
You seem to be completely confused about what the games going for, and what keeps people's playing. It's the PvP and thrill of stealing other people's loot or protecting your own (it's in the title) no one deny's that the Pve is boring it's gotta be easy for the PvP aspect of it. What you want is a Pirate MMORPG AND Sot is not even in the same ballpark as that so if I'm being honest this game doesn't sound like your preferable genre which is fine but your going to have to look elsewhere.

I see a lot of people saying that the pvp is it's redeeming factor in the comment section. But I don't think so. It's annoying when you're trying to show it to new friends who don't have an understanding in the game. Turns a lot of people away. Myself, I can enjoy it, but again I've been playing games for a long time. But the art style of the game gives casual players this false sense of security that they can play and learn at their own pace. Which isn't true if you land on and island for the first time and encounter someone who blew up your ship and starts to snipe you before you know what's going on. So I say this dude did good on not showing that portion of the game. It's not the best but balanced enough that one can stand a chance if they're accustom to pvp.

Sea of Thieves is a fun game if you like pirates. If you don't know what a pirate is, that's why you don't like it. That being said it's tedious without a crew. I like minimalist games, they aren't usually as hyper stimulating, and with less game options you find more ways to make your own and know what you like
@mlk81652 жыл бұрын
I get my reward from getting better at pvp and stacking gold, there is different types of mobs when completing forts,(the damned, normal skeletons,gold skeletons, the black skeletons, the forest ones) and on islands there is the ocean crawlers (crab, hermit and the electric women), underwater there is sirens and sharks, also numerous bosses for the world events, the lightning bolt that goes through enemies you speak of is pretty much already in the game by using a jumping sword dash. To me this sounds like a take from a heavy PvE player, for me a pvp player the sky is the limit. I love the game because YOU can choose what YOU want to do and for me it supplies enough content for that (which is always being added to), Anyways well made video lad

Seriously if they added a story mode with the things mentioned here it would be so much fun. Lots of progression all leading up to a climatic fight. The mandatory pvp ruined SoT for me. I play solo so I can't do forts, vaults, shrines, or anything else that requires not watching the horizon for 2+ minutes without being sunk by sweats who only enjoy ruining the experience of others. Also the way they've designed pve quests puts you at a massive disadvantage solo given how tedious it is to move items around. Of course Rare would prefer to cater to the streamers with 5k hours who always have teammates and know every trick in the book rather than real players.

@bkgaming16622 жыл бұрын
I understand where your coming from. the sea of thieves developers from launch said that the there wont be a way to permanently gain upgrades mainly because they felt that would not be fair to new players. if you look at the content they added its catered mainly towards new players. something that you can do as soon as you open the game. on the other hand some of the things you said are in the game. tridents that can hit enemy's for a lot of damage but have limited use. a skull that can breath fire obtained from a boss fight. different cursed cannonballs that can be used to curse the ships and player. tiny explosive that you can throw from your hand and the risk vs reward of the kegs. the idea is that instead of grinding hours on end to get this things (or pay actual money) you get to find those things in the session. that is part of the adventure. but this also means that if you spawn in the session you wont immediately have those items. if you feel you did all the content pvp is one of the greatest things this game has to offer because on top of enemy players trying to sink you there could be pve related threats which when combined with pvp creates a real challenge. this is the main reason this game is great the pvpve. and I feel like you can only experience it in sea of thieves.

I think you skipped quite alot of the game, since you cant have explored the whole thing in 20 hours lol. HOWEVER, I do agree that this game could be so much more. this game has so much potential... Firstly, the fact there is 6 ships in a game is ok, like you dont want to be constantly attacked and killed in the middle of doing stuff. Secondly, i think that pvp is very varied atm, but it could be better, they should make it so you can upgrade your ship, level, character, guns etc. but make it so the game puts you in a lobby with other people that are the same level as you if you get what I mean. Thirdly, the storys you can do is perfect and the game nails it perfectly, there is so much to do and its fun, but it could be better again if the gold could get you better gear and items. I also am a little bit annoyed about the game not saving where you left off, it does but not as well. I mean people have lives and jobs, and school, like you cant sit there playing it for 2 hours to complete a story. and when you leave it makes you start again by having to gather all your materials again etc. i may be wrong about this point though since I havnt played it for a while. but i think it could be looked at possibly. Lastly, from my first point - i think that you should also have an option to choose how many players you want in your lobby but this might not work. I think the arena is good enough and people who complain about not being able to pvp are just wrong and should maybe play the game a bit more before judging it.

Barely mentioned pvp. Game has some of the deepest endgame secrets and achievements in gaming. You can obtain items to improve yourself. You just don’t know what they are and there is a official ranking system and a more low key title system to establish rank. Casual pve bot who never progressed enough to get to Athena pve/pvp. It’s like trying to review wow at lvl 20 or review botw after the tutorial area. I agree that the game was lackluster at release. But to anyone who actually sunk their teeth into the game in recent times…your option is laughable because you weren’t even able to access all of the content and have no clue about the rewards in the game. This is essentially an mmo where the game only gets better once all content is available to your character and you actually learn how to pvp. Why would I spam gold hoarders quest like a fool when I can be a pirate and farm bot players like yourself for loot and progress off of you’re hard work? It’s good you quit because if you would’ve kept playing you’d be on the forums screaming for pve servers like the rest of the 50hr Andy’s “Explored everything in 20hrs” Probably never completed one Fort of the damned in your life and ran order of souls with no emissary. Talks about no goals and doesn’t even know about pirate legend or DA sails and how that plays into pvp. Watching your video was like watching someone complain Dayz isn’t enough like cod. Having played a couple dozen hours with a friend and having gotten some stories, I think what works about the game is the emergent gameplay that's in the nature of it, even with it's simple sandbox. Here's a memorable(but long) tale of mine. Me and my buddy were sweating bullets looting a wreck with a reaper's chest in it. I was on deck, harpooning the loot he brought to the surface and storing it on board, while he was bringing everything. The reaper's chest had a marker on it allowing other players to see it and anyone holding it. We were on max paranoia, checking the horizon several times. We finally got the chest on board, and set off for the nearest outpost. Everything seemed to try to get us. The wind was awful, we had a storm removing our compass and visibility, and two skeleton galleys flanked us that we fought off and outran. We reached the town, and I hopped off first with the chest to get it sold asap. To my dismay, it wasn't sellable here, but at the reaper's hideout, another location. I calmed myself down, and hid the chest away from our ship, and we quickly sold everything we had. We took the reapers chest and set off for the hideout, checking all over for other ships. As we neared the hideout, we saw a brig. A ship larger than us, naturally intimidating. They were waiting for us. We sailed for the other side of the island, closer to the NPC that we had to get the chest to. I once more jumped off with the chest, in a panic trying to sneak to the NPC while running and jumping, while yelling for sniper support from my friend. I rounded the corner and saw the name of another player, running right at me. Bolting straight for the NPC, I deposited the chest, and laughed in local voice comms at them as we blunderbussed them down. They had some players sneak on our ship to burn it, but we put out the fires, patched up our ship, and watched them sail away. The thing I'm amazed by is that all of these elements are individually, kind of crap. Loot only sellable at certain locations? Forced PVP? The skeleton galley's are kind of boring, the storm is mostly just annoying, and hauling loot can feel like a chore. But that extra spice of tension and risk from literally painting a bullseye on your back to try to get some good loot? It binds all these little issues into a story with emergent challenges.

The thing that carries the game for me is player interaction. I just recently joined the gang of the reapers and started sinking ships and you never know what kind of people you’re gonna meet. Most of the time we sink people but we saw a solo slooper almost get sunk by a skelly sloop at a Fleet of Fortune and we felt so bad we helped him with it and let him have all the loot, Chest of Fortune included, we even escorted and protected the guy on the way to an outpost. I really don’t think he realized how lucky he was because usually level 5 reaper galleons with reapers mark flags are things you run far tf away from.

There is definitely a proper progression system. Imagine you spawn on an outpost with barely anything, then you go around the world and get supplies. This supplies allows you to do world events with ease and take down other players. Now imagine you’ve got the supplies and are ready for a challenge. So you go to a event take it down. Now you have the loot, that is your reward. But it’s not over, you have to get to the outpost to sell without sinking. Somebody saw you were doing the world event, they are now coming for you. You have to fight to the death for your loot! If you sink them that is another reward. When you sell, the gold is just a bonus. Also you need to get to at least level 20 on all Factions to really understand the game.

The game wasn’t ever bad it just lacked content and now that issue is solved The gameplay isn’t bad or stale as the core gameplay loop imo is so good Can’t say I personally got board of it though I do take breaks from the game sometimes Nor do I think gameplay or progression is bad or 1 dimensional since the game is built on its current progression with cosmetics I’ll agree that breath of the wild is missing important aspects especially in terms of traditional Zelda stuff like dungeons. Tall tales do have fun gameplay and some of the story is fine even if not all of them are big story I think the big difference is that someone who always liked the game doesn’t have these issues while someone that doesn’t care for it might have your issues

I think you have a honest and genuine opinion on the game that relates to many people and for some of those people, relates to their frustration of the game. I just wanted to throw two things in the mix. 1) The game mechanics are stale as pointed out. But I believe the true underlining function of the game is player driven stories. This is what drives the game. The lack of end game means just that, no end game. It allows the players to create whatever they want. The stories among players will never end. And I believe this was strategically done to prolong the life of the game. Players in the community are now becoming the Blackbeards of old (BoxyFresh, PhuzzyBond, Pace22, HitbotTC, etc). Chance encounters, epic fights, laughs, are all more stories to tell. 2) Cosmetics. Not truly rewarding on the surface, yes. But looking back almost 4 years ago, people now sailing with time limited cosmetics, the OG Bone Crusher figurehead, or Wandering Reaper hull, or Wailing Barncle Set, should strike fear in those who come across them. And they truly do, especially with Captaincy around the corner (naming ships and further ship customization). I think this was all intentional and I believe Rare knew deep down Sea Of Thieves would have a slow start. Because at its core, the game thrives through player driven stories. And those stories and legends will continue to grow over time. I apppreciate your video and hope others do too. I believe videos like these are important for the game and the community to bring discussion and exposure. Cheers.

My main problem is that it’s exclusive to Xbox and pc I hope it has a ps4 or switch release
My biggest issue a lot of the time boils down to the world just feeling empty of other players, I wish I saw and encountered more ships or at least felt that the world as a whole was more alive. I don't know how this would be accomplished, if its increasing the amount of ships/players per server or if its making more NPCs that just walk around or even sail around the world; I don't know. Thinking more about it I think adding more NPCs with more 'personality' would be great for this game. Don't just have NPCs with a specific job like just standing around for you to deliver a chest or buy some clothes, but make it feel alive. It would be a massive undertaking and I have no expectation of Rare to do it, but if the world felt more alive in the way that Red Dead 2 does or in the way that Cyberpunk does then it would genuinely improve the experience a lot for me. Either more players and more PvP or more NPCs, interactions and a living, breathing world would make this game so much better.

The reason why the game is like this is because it isn't just an action adventure game but a roleplay game as well. If you put yourself in the role of a pirate, British or French Navy or a Fisherman or Merchant then the game gets more fun

I played about 100 hrs with a friend and since we played in the evenings after work and on weekends, the fact that the base game wasn't terribly complicated made it pleasant for our downtime. We eventually quit, however, because there are only PvP servers and the general attitude of strangers during chance encounters is hostility. We lost a LOT of quest effort at the end of several sessions because we got jumped by other players on our way to turn loot in, or by players who just happened to be already on the islands where we wanted to conclude or adventuring for the day. This went so far as to our cancelling quest lines when we discovered the waters between islands had player traffic. The main blame for this I put on the bad communication options. Trying to talk to strangers in-game is cumbersome and when in doubt they'll engage in battle rather than risking letting other strangers get too close. We tried once or twice to recruit others through the game's official Discord, but on the odd chance we actually found players who were seriously interested in collaborating, having to invite them first through XBox Live or the Steam friend list added additional complications. I hope Rare will add in-game lobbies at one point so talking to people will be easier and joining their crews or forming alliances less organisational effort. A place to calmly talk and make one's goals clear would, I think, make a lot of difference.

The shrines in season 4 are similar to the escape room idea you mention the issue being once you've solved the puzzle once there isn't really a way to make the solution different but I don't think doing the same puzzle but the solution is B instead of C this time would be fun either because in the end you're still repeating content. Other then the shrines the closest thing we have is the Legend of The Veil voyage they added since that will randomize between 5 different puzzles and then a world event at the end but even that I imagine will get repetitive once you've seen a bunch of the different outcomes.

This is why I hate casual players. They act like PVP doesn't fucking exist and nobody plays it and that every developer is entitled to take 6 years out of their life to develop some PVE mode that nobody will play in a game that is designed for PVP with 25 million + players and was top 5 on Steam sales just this week... I understand you don't play PVP but you can't not talk about it in a game that's mainly designed around PVP... at that point you weren't even playing the game. You're playing what you want to play with in the game. You don't have a well-rounded understanding of everything there actually is if you refuse to play the main selling points of the game
@LateNightPies2 жыл бұрын
I'll be honest with u, if I wanted to pvp, then I'd play a game with actual good pvp. I have pvp'ed, but its unintuitive, dull, and slow. There's dozens of games that have better pvp. There's a reason arena was shut down, only 2% of the playerbase actually played it. It was way more worth Rare's resources and time to invest in the part of the game people care about. Your statement on developers taking the time to work on the PVE and steam sales makes no sense. "you're playing what you want to"" well no shit, tf am I supposed to do, only play the parts I don't like. I've partaken in a reasonable amount of PVP fights and it's just not fun, so I stopped playing it as much. It's not the reason I play the game.
@whenisdinner21372 жыл бұрын
@@LateNightPies how am I supposed to take you seriously when you literally said that you avoided PVP in other comments while you're talkin about how the PVP is bad.... Like bro... If you don't like it that's totally fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but don't tell people in other comments that you didn't play it, don't talk about it at all in the entire video, then expect me to think that you played any of it... What I'm saying is that taking the time to basically rebuild the entirety of the content with focus on PVE would ruin what the game is. The reason Arena shut down is because the entire rest of the game is already fucking world PVP. Why have a PVP arena in a game with World PVP? Some people actually like the game for being an equal playing field at all times... some people like the Tall Tales more than any dopamine enhancing number changes or fancy guns irrespective of the balance of PVP would do... you talk about design choices like they're inherently bad. Slow reloading guns is not a bad decision. You're just not used to it and/or don't like it. That's what I have a problem with. And I'm not trying to put down your ideas either. Some of them are genuinely good.
@LateNightPies2 жыл бұрын
@@whenisdinner2137 I think u misunderstand. I played it, didn't enjoyed it, and now I avoid it because I do not like it. Of course I pvp, I don't think you can play this game without interacting with other players at least a few times. Also, adding more pve content to SOT wouldn't take away from pvp. I don't understand how the addition of a better boss fight, more interesting enemies, or more creative weapons would hurt pvp. I gave a better explanation as to how the additional weapons would work in PVP scenarios vs pve scenarios in my pinned comment. Those are very rough ideas, and IMO flawed. They're simply ideas to give the audience an example of what I'm referring to. I should, however, had made it clearer. The progression system would only work in pve, against other players, things like armor or stronger weapons would essentially all be balanced out. Apologies for the misunderstanding. I also want to note that Rare is already pretty much entirely focusing on PVE, the second latest adventure was about fighting megalodons. Lastly, I didn't say anything really bad about Tall Tales, I said I thought they were positive editions to the game. If you enjoy pvp, then more power to you, I just don't care for it.
@NovakiSalem2 жыл бұрын
@@whenisdinner2137 The devs have said in a podcast that the reason Arena shut down was because 2% of the players total playtime existed in arena. Meaning 98% percent of player time was spent in adventure doing... whatever they wanted to do. If they want to avoid PvP good. If they want to engage in PvP good. That's why the game exists as PvEvP and not one or the other.

I feel like saying "Sea of Thieves is boring" is more of a reflection on the personality of the person saying it than it is on the actual game. If you spend your entire gameplay experience religiously sticking to a merchant trade route or something, you're not going to have a good time. But if you have some good friends and you serverhop for PVP, you're going to be playing the game of the year. I never understood the "Choose your own adventure games are boring" argument. The entire point of sea of thieves is giving you the tools to do what you find most fun and just letting you have at it. It's like getting minecraft, digging yourself into a 1x2 dirt hole, staying there for 20 days, and saying "Minecraft is boring! There is no sense of adventure or progression!" Like maybe the problem is that you stayed in a dirt hole instead of building or progressing? If you're given a choose your own adventure game, and you choose _not_ to have an adventure every single time, you're going to get bored quick. I admire people like Cliff the Story Guy, who can turn a normal sot session into a sprawling tale of betrayal and loot. He's not playing a different game from you, he's just playing it differently. The voyages and world events are designed to be tedious, they're secondary to the PvP. Sitting on an island clicking on a boss will never be as fun as tucking on someone's ship and waiting for that crucial moment to keg them and take all of the loot for yourself. I have like 500+ hours in SoT, and i would say i enjoyed most of that time. There were infuriating moments with bad hitreg and stuff, but few experiences compare to serverhopping with a group of friends and stealing the rarest loot in the game. I can sit down and play for 6 hours and it would feel like 2 just based on how much fun i've had, who i played with, and what i chose to do. There are, admittedly, flaws in the game. Same with every game. And i do wish there was more content. But discounting the entire experience as boring just tells me that you didn't _try_ to have fun. Sitting in the start tavern for 20 hours and saying that the game is boring because all you do is sit in a tavern kind of ignores the ship waiting right outside and the infinite potential for adventure it has.
@philiam04202 жыл бұрын
You completely ignored PVP. You said that "your only combat options are mindlessly swinging a sword at NPCs". No it isn't. Maybe an hour ago I just finished a 3 hour long naval battle between my alliance of 2 sloops and an alliance of 2 galleons. We did Fort of the Damned which is a little repetitive but it's quite fun when you've got a friend with you. After finishing it, a sloop came out of nowhere and sank one of the ships before we even had a chance to fight back. We take the other one out and are fighting with it for a while until the other sloop gets back and we win. Then a galleon shows up and blows one of us up. His friend shows up. We keep going back and forth where someone's dead someone's respawning, and we're having a blast fighting these guys for hours. Eventually we finally lost the battle and switched servers to try and get some loot. This game is very fun if you're playing with friends and aren't scared of PVP. If you only run away from players, it gets stale very fast.
