You'd think Seagal would know more about weapons after all he's done in his career. Their ballistics expert refers to an AR-15 round as ".223 mm" AR-15's could be modified for accuracy but I'd never call them a "sniper" platform, (although civilian media tends to call anything over a few hundred meters a sniper shot). And AR-15s fire 5.56mm or .223 caliber. A .223 mm bullet would be about the size of a grain of sand.

So, about sniper rifles. If you ask somebody who served in a NATO army, they'll go on a tirade that sniper rifles don't exist and that any rifle in the hands of a sniper becomes a sniper rifle. If you ask somebody from the... Let's say Warsaw pact, they'll calmly point out that sniper rifles have "sniper" in the name. For example, S in SVD or KSVK stands for sniper.

One thing that stood out to me as I watch this series is we've had at least 3 officers killed during it in their jurisdiction. Washington State reports that 316 officers have died since the late 1800's (this number includes K9 units lost) and while there has been kind of an uptick in officers lost the past 20 years (53 plus 9 pandemic related and 10 K9 units) in the show they seem pretty chill about these "redshirt" officers being taken out.

I love it when tv just tells us so precisely ballastics and type of weapon so easily especially with someone like calling a basketball shot from the corner and nothing but net, after ball falls in but never seeing how many attempts it would take. According to weapons specialist woman this guy knew the bullet would drop +- 6 inches, knowing how much wind he was dealing with because projectile loses 1000 fps in 200 yards causes it stray from muzzle even by a 1/4 of inch (could impact 10 feet away), and speed kills which means round drops from 1300 pounds to less than 400. (400 is a lot not denying but not as effective. I was shot by a 12 gauge shotgun but far enough away that only one pellet eneterd me) Making this the JFK magic bullet or sloppy writers demonizing semiautomatic weapons. Everyone is told if a long gun is black it's a ar or "assault rifle. 1 it's like calling all vehicles on the road cars without designation of trucks, cars, buses, etc.. 2 ar is one gun manufacturer from the 1950 which stands for armalite and again it's like calling all vacuum cleaners hoovers but there's different brands. But my main point which I believe red-eye your one for details, it would be virtually impossible for someone to shoot a semiautomatic rifle in 223 without more than one shot at that distance. That's why there's more effective rifles and calibers for sniping at longer ranges. But Steven doesn't bother with those details and it's easy to keep making people afraid of semiautomatic weapons that still fire only one round per pull and don't go accidentally off alone. I rewatched and noticed shooter used a suppressor which decreases muzzle velocity even more, not knowing the actual type used it usually takes -11 feet per second off each 50 yards, meaning it's possible this victim rides away alive. I can't watch cop or war programs because they're so full of💩

AR-15's aren't sniper rifles (you could technically precision build an AR platform, and have match 5.56 ammunition... but it wouldn't be very good over 600 yards), and you can't tell the distance the shot was from (close range forensic evaluations excepted).
