Game looks really good, but the people who run Mythic Games are criminals. I will talk about my story. I did not originally backed the project, and later learned about the shipping fiasco. Later in the year, they started selling the game on their website. I knew some backers had not received their pledge but some others were received and reviewed them. Since it was on sale, I decided to order it thinking all the issues were resolved. Then I put the order in, paid for the game and the shipping, which is based on the revised higher rate. After I put my order in, I received an email "thanking me for my pre-order". It was never mentioned anywhere before buying this was a pre-order. When I go back to the order page, now what I see is a pre-order with an estimated delivery date as N/A. In the meantime, my local gaming store received copies of the game, where the sale price is lower without any shipping fees. I know it was my mistake to believe this shady company but I am writing here for many other fellow backers who were deceived by Mythic Games. Despite everything, the game looks really good. I have no idea when I will be able put my hands on this game, and when I do, I totally believe that I will enjoy it. It is a very good franchise and the board game implementation is good; however, please be careful if you are planning to purchase it from Mythic Games directly. As a side note, do not order the playmat since the quality of it is atrocious. Lastly, thank you Rob for a great review!

You were warned, but still bought. This is why negative reviews NEED to exist for this and other games like it. Review bombing is a necessary evil to protect customers. When a product gets review bombed...there is always a good reason. Review bombing is literally folks protecting other folks from shadiness. When the game seller is literally stealing from folks, don't support with a five star review. Anyone that gives this game as good review is either uninformed, or mean spirited/selfish(don't care about other gamers falling for scams)

Bad ratings from entitled crybabies that abuse the rating system. I hate it when people rate games before they play as a way to punish the creators, in the real world delays and unexpected problems arise all the time and backing games is a wild game in itself. People have unreasonable expectations. As for me, I'm almost done speed painting this and can't wait to play! The minis are of astounding quality and one thing I really appreciate is the mini trats having a simple guide to show where each mini fits, that should be the baseline for all games with tons of minis.

I was going to make the same comment. The KS did have a couple of other accessories and expansions (“wave 2” that haven’t been shipped yet), but this is the base game (yeah the base game is two boxes) & Crimson Court expansion.

I am not a video gamer and so knew nothing about the IP. On top of this, the artwork didn't initially appeal to me. Since then I have watched a few unboxings and a play through on One Stop Co-Op Shop. Now, with your recommendation, I am getting a copy! Those minis are going to be fun to paint?!

Its a great game. Just people are very impatient these days, and un willing to take time to understand why things are happening with a company. No patient. So petty people tank BGG scores.

I agree mostly …. As a backer though the way they handled the request for extra money with essentially a ransom demand was pretty shoddy. They should have looked at how shadowborne games handled it and learnt a lesson or two. Whatever the case though rating a game as a 1 is just childish. I will never back a mythic game again but I rated it a 9 as it’s pretty damn good 😊

All the negative "reviews" are people upset with Mythic Games recent troubles. None of them reflect the game itself. Not saying they don't have a right to be upset, but trashing this game doesn't help their cause. Mythic's poor business practices and lack of good project management should not be held against the game developers, artists, and creators that helped put this game together. I'm glad you're enjoying it so far and I hope to hear more of your thoughts after you've put more time into it. My copy is still waiting to be played since I have so much other stuff I want to get to first, but this video of yours just bumped Darkest Dungeon up in my priority list! Thanks for the little mini review and I hope more people spread the good word on this one.

Darkest Dungeon is a favorite video game of mine because of the theme, mood, and sense of futility and doom it brings. The music, the graphics, and the voice acting are perfect to create that feeling. I just don't know if this board game could somehow eclipse the video game without those elements.

There is only one version of this game so it looks the same as the game delivered to backers. That's why there is an entire box with minis. 😉 Only kickstarter "exclusive" is an extra player class that came in a separate little box.

It is always such a bummer to me how people will rate different products, not on the product itself, but on the scenarios surrounding the product. For instance, you will often see people rate a product very poorly online because they were upset with the shipping. The shipping has nothing to do with the quality of the product, especially if a shipping service was the one to blame. I completely understand that Mythic did not handle the situation in the best of ways, to hold out on shipping products unless you paid extra. Shouldn't have been done. But, that bad rating should be on Mythic Games as a company, not on the product itself. The Darkest Dungeon board game is phenomenal. I have probably put at least 20 hours into it with multiple playthroughs, and I and the guys I have played it with all really enjoy it a lot! It definitely captures the essence of the video game, and the fact that you can have multiple people playing it together (whereas the video game is 1 player only) is a huge benefit. Great gameplay. Great miniatures. Great components (minus the paper deck boxes.. minus a few flaws with the rulebook..). I love it.

It's a tough call. I personally am owed over $200 for this product that I will never get. Therefore I gave it a 1 star. As far as this game goes, it is THE biggest disappointments of my board gaming life. Hard to give that anything but 1 star.

Review bombing protects customers from otherwise scams/shady products. This game was literally a scam. Folks NEED to be protected form it and games like it.

@@AlwayzFresh No, it doesn't. It's the wrong approach. A review is supposed to be a review of the game, not of the company. A bad company can still make a great game. A lot of people will go to BGG and look at the review rating # and not even look at any details in the reviews. Or even if they look through the review details, they may not scroll far enough to see the details written up about the company. The review of the game itself, which is what BGG is meant to be, should be just that - a review of the game, period. If you want to say things about the company, hit up the forums, youtube, etc. and get out whatever warning against the company you want to. I'm not even disagreeing with you about the company - we got hosed on the process and having to pay a significant amount to get our games. THOUGH, you still had the option to get a refund if you wanted to, so it wasn't a 100% hostage situation, there is/was a way out. Would I ever buy something from this company again? Likely not, honestly.. BUT, is the game itself good and fun? Absolutely. This game was not "literally a scam". That's ridiculous. If you didn't like what was happening, then you should have requested the refund instead. Not understanding how to review things is a problem across the board - it's unfortunate. You can even go onto Amazon and people will 1-star review something because shipping on the item took longer than it said it would. Why should a product be reviewed as 1-star if the shipping process had an issue? That's ridiculous. So, I completely disagree with you on review bombing. Find other avenues.

I am beginning to think that my crowdfunding days have past? With the extra costs I am finding better deals, with no uncertainty or waiting. Picked up DD with the exclusive mini for £132. Have done similar with many other former KS projects.
