"It's a real privilege to do this work, we never get tired of it." It's because of people like this that the generations after us will still be able to view some of these amazing animals that may have otherwise gone extinct without human intervention. Truly making the world a better place. Thank you.

Exactly. You always hear about people griping and protesting for just the bad things humans sometimes do to animals but we never hear of the many *good* things humanity does for animals.

I've always wanted to volunteer at Marine Mammal Center. The views are just spectacular, but more so for exactly what you mentioned. I'm in between jobs now and haven't much moolah, so probably difficult to put together gas money since we're in the Bay Area.

“Full of beans.” What a wonderful expression. As a non native speaker I had to look it up. Nice!

@LittleLulubee2 жыл бұрын
@@JaneCooper190072 My American mom always uses it 😁
@JaneCooper1900722 жыл бұрын
@@LittleLulubee Really? I'm sure I heard my British mom use it too, it's probably used in both Countries. We can check one sec... I was an American child brought up by British parents so I heard lot's of these phrases and it's interesting to see where and how they originated. Ok, here's a post which looks pretty accurate without delving into it fully. 👇👇👇👇 “Full of Beans” A couple of posts back, I mentioned a published list of Britishisms that included eleven “words and expressions that have been common in America for as long as I can remember, and which I wouldn’t have necessarily thought of as British in origin.” I commented that initial investigation suggested only three of them seemed to be proper Britishisms. The first was “smarmy.” And the second is “full of beans.” The OED ((Oxford English Dictionary)) defines the expression, which seems to derive from horse racing, as meaning “to be full of energy, and in high spirits.” The first citation is from an 1843 novel: “‘Ounds, ‘osses, and men, are in a glorious state of excitement! Full o’ beans and benevolence!” That and all subsequent citations are from British sources. In Green’s Dictionary of Slang, all cites are from Britain or the Commonwealth until this from the American writer Leo Rosten’s 1975 novel Dear Herm: “Now he is full of beans and vinegar and with a whole new outlook on Life.” (That seems like a euphemistic switch on the roughly equivalent U.S. phrase “full of piss and vinegar.”) One earlier U.S. use of “full of beans” is in a 1938 New York Times article: “Whenever Sage, a cowboy with whom I once punched cows on the San Simon Ranch in Eastern New Mexico, felt particularly full of beans of a cool early morning….” In any case, Google Books Ngram Viewer shows British dominance for the phrase until roughly the late 1970s, when the U.S. caught up. That was followed by a British spurt, and equivalence again in 2000, the last year for which the database has reliable data.

@@JaneCooper190072 Thanks, I always enjoy learning about words and expressions! 👍 This video is actually the first time I’ve heard anyone say it besides my mom, to my recollection. And the video is British. I never knew where my mom picked it up. But her parents are Canadian. So she must have learned it from them- it makes sense that in Canada they probably have more British expressions 😁
@JaneCooper1900722 жыл бұрын
@@LittleLulubee Yes that makes sense being Canada is a Commonwealth County, ((they also put vinegar on their "chips" (fries)) ((A friend told me that and I never forgot)lol I too have an interest in the origins of words, like "full of beans" I wouldn't have thought that came from horses feed, lol Green’s Dictionary of Slang looks really interesting too.

Here in Seattle I’ve been fortunate to volunteer with Seal Sitters. When mama puts baby on the beach while she goes off fishing we rope off the area to keep people and dogs away so baby seal stays safe.
