There is little question that quality aluminum tape can seal a leak in a metal roof. The question is, how durable that quick fix is. If the tape leaks in a few years, or worse, when you go to remove it, there is a mess that takes ten times longer to clean than it did to install the tape, then the cost-benefits suggest a more pertinent solution from the beginning is a better choice. PLEASE REPORT BACK ON HOW DURABLE THE TAPE WAS AND HOW DIFFICULT IT WAS TO REMOVE. Thanks!

My eldest son used to work with a weatherproofing company that guaranteed metal roofs for an additional 20-30 yers. You take a paint brush attached to a long handle. dip it it Elastomeric roof coating and tap each and every screw head. Then you caulk each seam, or used loth backed butyl tape, or paint each seam with the roof coat until there is no seam, (if the roof is new and tight). Then you spray the entire roof (you can get away with rolling it on) the the roof coating and done. No rust, no cracks. extends and protects beyond the natural life of the coating on the roof. It can be done anytime before the roof rusts through. Seriously, they used cloth backed butyl tape and caulk to bridge any rusted out gaps after a good power wash revealed holes. They just screwed down any lifted screw, added more in any weak spots and did the seal, cauk and tape then spray coat and the roof looked new and they gladly warranteed the job for 20+ years. You did a good thing for the roof life when you sealed the seam. It will help keep those high winds from blowing sand in there and lifting the roof at the seam. This is done here in Florid everyday by many companies for metal business buildings anad metal roofed mobile homes. It's best to coat and seal before any damage, but it's good to know you can repair and extend the life of an existing roof in future. Buuuuutttt, Tee (my son) an Iraq war veteran would fuss at you for being up there on a reflective surface with no sleeves. There would be jokes about cancer and deep fried Jim or slow roasted roofers...He's a hoot. And he worked those roofs in long sleeved cotton tee shirts and a neck guarding scarf (wet down) under the hat over the back of the neck...Soooo I won't tell him so I don't have to hear the fuss about how you would be cooler if you sweat and let it evaporate through the fabric...again, but YoU know BetteR !!!! be good!

I just saw a vid that used turbo poly seal. I'm in the Texas Hill Country and it's starting to cool off. The turbo poly seal vid I saw demonstrated how the sealer is rubbery and expands and contracts with weather. I'm thinking that's what I'll need cause I survived the Texas big freeze earlier this year and we're supposed to have another one. Your tape looked easier but I'm concerned about some of the comments you got. What has been your experience since you uploaded this two years ago? Did it stay up longer than six months? Ridge cap is what they call what you would normally install, instead of the Butyl Tape.. So, if it ever fails, no problem, just cover it with some Ridge Cap, and leave the tape there as a little extra security.. It's a pretty flat roof, so, I see why you didn't want to use it, but, they also make foam spacers that you drive the screws through that fit between the grooves of the tin.. Tape was much cheaper I'm sure, depending on how long it lasts.. If you don't get enough life out of it, try the cap.. Cheers!!

Be honest and tell us you weren't wearing any pants in the first scene (okay that sounds creepy but makes sense in the context of the video!!!).

Jim, you are such a clown! I had a good laugh :-) By the way, the coolest part of the day is between 6am and 7am. I'm not sure when you do most of your outdoor work, but if you can do it early in the day, it'll be less hot :-)

It's definitely cooler earlier. I probably need to switch my activities around.

Let us know how the tape holds up, seen the end footage of you on the roof, Jim, I think the sun is getting to you.

Lol!! Thanks Joey! I use the sun as an excuse for my behavior a lot.🤣👍
