Pommern works well against bad players. It's very good for Asymmetric Battles. Most of the German battleships have just absolutely horrible dispersion.

No they don't. They have the same dispersion as British battleships. Then players spec them for secondaries and whine that their main battery has bad dispersion. Want decent dispersion on German main batteries? Spec for it.

@@Neneset I use a hybrid setup on my German BB's, secondary build but with Aiming Systems in slot 3, and my dispersion is still worse than British BB's. USN, British and German BB's use the same ellipse, but there is just something about German main guns that make them extra frustrating.

@@ryanbrochu3336 I spec for all main guns on the modules. For commander, go hybrid build with secondary range and CQC. Yes, the accuracy isn't amazing but you get to shoot more with CQC when in brawling range and the means more chances.

I agree that there are many different opinions on these ships and sometimes I wonder if the CC streamers may be a bit overly nice in their reviews just to help push premium ships. I'm not suggesting that Mountbatten is a CC for these reviews here. I would also say that it really depends on a play style and what type of things you prefer doing when in game.

Good players opinion usually is correct, while mediocre or bad players don't have enough understanding of game mechanics to have an opinion worth considering said game mechanics. There is also a thing like a 'BB-main' which influences these lists, or better said being 'less proficient' with higher skill ships like destroyers or cruisers.

Imo Pommern really shines in Tier IX ranked, she’s gotten me through several seasons of it with ease at this point. She can still work in randoms as well, but smaller format competitive modes is where she’s golden, that or asymmetrics

I think Pommerns rep is from when launched there was tier 9 3 vs 3 brawl event and at the time she just absolutely creamed the opposition and not uncommon to see 3 Pomm vs 3 Pomm. So she did really well there and many bought her then. Common sight In asymmetric battles as well. Randoms barely see her again though don’t see much brawling in randoms either.

I have all of the ships in this list and I mostly agree with the order, except that I would put the Ohio in the number 1 spot. The Ohio is my favorite BB and possibly my favorite ship in the game. Whenever I need a brawling BB at tier 10, the Ohio is my go to ship. This coming from someone that loves German BBs mind you!

Personally would put kearsarge in the list though, it's just fun, and 12 mk6 ap would just kill, while tiny Tim and he would just burn the crap out of them, strange ship, large hanger eats damage every time, but if you'd use it the right way, it's just fun

@@Stvnpetersen honestly I feel like it would be a smart move on their part to establish a market to buy and swap between players. They could make a percentage off of every transaction. Even if it was something exorbitant (and you know it would be with War Gaming) it would still be worth it to unload ships you don't want and don't play for ships you do want or to swap out other resources as well. I myself have at 4 CVs sitting in my port collecting barnacles along with 3 or 4 subs doing the same. And that's to say nothing of the surface ships I rarely play. The only reason I don't sell that stuff for credit is because I don't want to get the things in a random crate in the future.

If you're a FOG, you already have all the ships you need. If you're new, spending money on this game is a bad investment. In either case, you should play, take whatever freebees you can get, but don't spend your money.

Excellent list SL. I bought the Kidd many years ago i think in 2018 and have never been disappointed with her. If you like DD play and trying to cap a zone she is excellent in the current game culture with CVs and Subs. I got the Pommern when she first came out and after equipping her with Lutjens she can hold her own (wish WG would tweak her main battery accuracy some given WG updated detection and essentially moved BBs to the back of the map).

I will let you in on a little secret: American engineers do all of their calculations using metric units and only convert the final results to imperial, at the very end. Why? The math is easier. @@Kur4n the way it worked last year is that you could get a tier 8 for free if you traded a tier 10 for it. If you trade in a ship that you can get for coal then you can pick that ship up later on. If you wanted two ships there was an option to do it again for a half off coupon but with the same caveat that a tier 8 was valued at the level of a tier 10.

Another thing with the Napoli is that you can also get its concealment to 10.3 km, 0.7 less than the maximum secondary range… you can literally open up on ships with your secondaries before they even know you’re there

Cossack is also great choice for a premium DD, it basically mirrors the Kidd. No AA but more firepower and short hydro while the other aspects are similar. She's also cheaper or the cheapest doubloon T8 IIRC.

If I made a list of things to purchase with Dubloons: The first two or just objectively the correct choice. (I'd put Black Friday Napoli there if you couldn't get the ship for coal.) 1. Massachusetts (Black Friday) It is a stupidly overpowered ship for T8 2. Alaska (Black Friday) Could easily be T10 3. Cossack - Really good stealthy gunboat 4. Mainz or Atlanta - HE Spam 5. Depends on what you value: Chkalov or Kaga (Ridiculously overpowered CVs) Kearsarge (If you want a stupid overpowered ship for credit farming) I-56 (If you love being a tumor with a gun) Le Terrible (Roleplay Sonic the Hedgehog + overpowered gunboat + yolo torps) Alabama (Historical ship that has been converted into a museum that you can visit) Tirpitz - (Historical ship good for the brawl mode) San Diego (ig, I don't like it. Some people swear by it.)

build it out for survival. It's counter intuitive with a DD but if you give it more HP and more heals and then run it with the heal buff flag it's like the DD that won't die. It will keep you in the fight against all but the strongest alpha strike gun boats.

I had saved up enough coal to buy any premium ship a few months back and sat here debating with myself for at least a month about whether to pick up the F. Sherman or the Napoli. I watched a ton of youtube videos on the subject and was still conflicted and though I was leaning towards the Napoli because it's a brawler of a cruiser, I ended up getting the Sherman because I mostly play dd and the gunboats are some of my favorites. I've regretted it ever since and should have stayed with my first pick on the Napoli. Next time I suppose. I do have the Kidd that was given to me in my first Community tokens container and that is a good fun gunboat dd.

Another cool feature of the Napoli is all the "flowery" comments in chat when you have a good run. For shear goonery, the GK, though a Preussen with a mains build will also activate the proctalgia feature as well.

I have all of these except Moskva. Kidd is my go to choice when I need a tier 8 DD in any situation except for one calling for straight line flat out speed. Everything else I want Kidd. Napoli I'm still getting used to and because I haven't been grinding Italian ships as long or as hard I don't have a commander that can take full advantage of all her gifts... yet. She's good, that much is obvious I just need more time with her to fully exploit her potential. Ohio may simply be the best tier 10 battleship in the game. She tanks extraordinarily well, her main guns are both accurate and deadly almost always chunking targets for big chunks of damage and her extended range fast firing secondaries can really chew a target up. The only downsides to me are a feeling of sluggishness and ponderous bulk. She is not going to thread a wall of torps with ease. She is absolutely THE first RB ship anybody should get and I will fight anybody who thinks otherwise. Pommern... I want to love her I do. But her main guns are frustrating as crap. Her dispersion makes me tear my hair, her turret angles are garbage and her reload is not great. The torps are always getting knocked out or completely destroyed and she can be spotted from the moon so bringing her into action with enough HP left to make use of her offensive firepower is difficult at best. I don't hate her by any stretch but I much prefer the Mecklenburg I just picked up or the Georgia I've had for some time now. She IS way way better than FDG or almost any other tech line BB but there are a lot of good choices in premium battleships out there and in some ways she is found to be wanting....

napoli is still just ridiculous, it was my first coal ship 8 months ago and its just comical how incredibly hard to kill it is if you play properly and how insane the damage output is from the secondaries but even the main guns are superb (though dispersion is cancer sometimes)

Top 5 only is tough, but you obviously still have a soft spot in your heart for Pom (😍), but IMO, not even close in top 5. If we're not including steel, Ohio #1 (easily), Napoli and Moskva, in their somewhere. Mainz (dubs only) in Operations with blue booster averages $1M a game and you'll never run out of credits. And if we must include a DD, which to choose? 🤔Vampire (RB), Cossack (Dubs), Marceau (coal), but not Kidd.

I use Kidd for T8 Ranked when I'm feeling scrappy due to her heal. Her AA has been...bad for me over the last few months. With an AA build, DFAA and the side buff, I can barely shoot down more than two or three after sustained fire, and this has happened far more than once. Against T6 planes, she swats planes down without much issue, but against T8 or T10 planes...it baffles me.

Of the list I have the Moskva and the Napoli. The Moskva I too got when she was a tech tree ship. And she is great. Her guns can citadel a number of battleships too. It feels nice. The Napoli I got because everyone was always praising her. And I have to say I'm underwhelmed. For me the reload is too long for how hard she hits. So I often find myself sitting around waiting for those damn guns to reload, only to do mediocre damage afterwards. It also means you can't change ammo type super quick, which makes it harder to blap people who made a silly mistake. The torpedoes are lackluster too, just like on the Venezia line. I play this boat rarely. Moskva I play almost every day.

Anhalt is in my opinion, one of the best tier 8 bbs when it's available. Amazing secondaries, 15 guns, funny torps.

You need to seek help - Anhalt is arguably the worst ship in the game, tier for tier. Guns are inaccurate as hell, have terrible AP penetration and awful HE DPS - they are tier 6 guns, having 15 guns that can't hit anything and when they connect can't do damage isn't a plus. Secondaries have terrible pen and lack improved accuracy, plus have terrible firing angles. The hull is one giant shot trap and the turtle back doesn't work as the angles are borked on it.

Speaking of Pommern, and ranked battles, how does one grind throuh the season to get to higher league? I mean win obviously, one can read the rules, but I do have the feeling that WG doesn't want me to, when I do play ranked its always sort of streaks, I chose my ship, win 3 games, then WG says to give the best enemy team they can find and a questionable team on my side (I'm not overconfident here and admit to say I may be the bad factor there too), from this point the ship I chose seems to be a losing one onward, so I pick another one, win 3 games or so and here we go again and again and again. Has anyone noticed something like that or will you tell me I'm either bad or in a bad luck?

All you need to do is sit like 10km away from a pommern litter to it and it does. He has poor gun power, above average secondaries sure, but you’re outside torp range. All you need to do is shoot it in the superstructure and it just melts. Poor choice imo

You buy it. It's for sale for doubloons or for actual money. I got mine half off last year by swapping out a German premium I got out of a container that is also available for coal (so I can get it again eventually) that I never played anyway. One of the best decisions I ever made. She's my go to in tier 8 ranked for DDs.

If you collect your monthly bonus doubloons, play ranked and collect your doubloons reward for 12 wins every sprint each season and you collect the random bundle doubloons they do each update you will have more than enough doubloons to buy Kidd using the 25% off coupon. The only money I spend in game is once a year on my birthday. I use my birthday coupon where I get 100% of the value of any ship I buy refunded in doubloons and I buy a ship that cost $20-$30. Adding those doubloons to the ones awarded to me just for logging in every day and playing ranked every season is more than enough for me to buy a good quality Black Friday ship on discount or to buy something from the armory using doubloons with my 25% off coupon PLUS either a dockyard ship or a Battle Pass ship every year. Additionally I usually end up acquiring an additional 3 to 6 free premiums through various missions or other means (and that doesn't account for coal, steel or research bureau ships). Last year I swapped several coal ships I already had for ships I could only get for doubloons through one of the special programs they were running. I got Bayard, Kidd, Wichita and San Diego through that program. Kidd and San Diego I got for half off regular amount of doubloons and Bayard and Wichita I got for free. Since the ships I gave up were coal ships I rarely played I can just acquire them again for coal in the future. I also pulled 2 or 3 ships from containers last year. Then of course there are the coal, steel and research bureau ships I get each year. So far this year I've gotten Ohio, Mecklenburg, Napoli and West Virginia plus I swapped resources in January to get Defence and two other ships in the Kitakama event. I play maybe two hours a day most days which is less time than I would spend watching TV or movies on average. Honestly it's less time than most people spend watching that stuff. People always talking about the grift from War Gaming but nobody is putting a gun to their head and forcing them to buy random loot boxes and the like. Every years I end up with between 6 and 12 premium ships in my port for basically less than $30. I wish all the entertainment I consume was so cheap!

Seems like the Kidd and the Benson are based off the same ship. I haven't played the Kidd but looking at the specs I think I would prefer the Benson, except for the AA capabilities of the Kidd.

The Kidd heal is HIGHLY useful and really changes the play of the ship since it can survive a lot longer. Benson also plays well.

Cossack is great, but her learning curve is pretty steep; only having one rack of torps is probably the most difficult thing to contend with. I don't often see Cossack but when I do, they're getting into trouble while waiting for their torps to reload, or when outrunning/outstaying their smoke. It's made more difficult if a player is used to playing Lightning as primarily a torpedo boat, rather than Cossack which essentially is a DD hunting gunboat with torps.

@@anaxis WTF is hard on playing cossack? You have almost best detection so you overspot 90% of ships and also you have better DPM so you can kill them. And if it has more DPM than you (thats just like 3-4 ships from tier 8) you over spot it. And also you have great mobility, speed boost and personal hydro so you will not eat torps, shorts smoke if you get into trouble...its pretty easy to play.

@@anaxis I'm a torp DD main too, BUT being able to use guns well is extremely important for hybrid DD play. And Cossack is more of a gunboat. Cossack is very easy to play well for me. As others mention, it has low detect and high gun DPM. Perfect for hunting other DDs. And contesting caps. Remember to use the short duration smoke to get away.

I love Cossack & gunboats like her for all the above reasons, although I rarely play her anymore because her guns are just a little too floaty & they rely on fires a little too much for my liking. But Murphy's Law being what it is, that long reload on the single rack of torps usually means they're on cool-down when I really need them, or I end up holding them back when I should dump them & vanish; and it seems like whenever I run into a Cossack they're struggling with the same thing. I also see the same thing with Akizuki, but less often than Cossack (plus Akizuki has a reload booster). I figure by T8 most people by then have generally learned how to run gunboat DDs in general; but since Cossack is a premium, chances are good that whoever is driving has little/no experience with boats of that nature, having just won (or bought) it. Although with Cossack in particular it seems that having the historic camo equipped is usually a good way to tell who is who.

Pommern is bad choice to invest, you want do secondary for brawl or assymetric or ranked T9? Ruprekt is exist and do better than her in 406mm that can overmatch 27mm (alaska, tulsa etc). Wasting resource or doubloon/money to trash ship. Kearsarge or Agir are better choices than Pommern in term of investment for T9

There is no premium ship in the game that is worth buying for cash. They are all way too expensive, you can buy an entire video game for the same price as buying a single ship in World of Warships. Whatever benefits you get from any premium ship is not that important in the overall scheme of the game. That is a compliment to the game, they do a decent job of keeping the game from being pay to win. Sea Lord Mountbatten might not be a CC, but he sure is selling these premium ships. In fairness he emphasizes getting ships free for coal or steel, but he is still over-hyping these ships.

I can tell you right now you don't need to buy any premium ships. The game is fun without them and the premium ships don't really add that much to the game. You are really better off spending your money elsewhere, maybe save the money for a vacation to somewhere with a nice beach and fancy tropical drinks.
