mostly agrees with Jeremy on the racism b.s.; and even roll back on the ‘positive’ discrimination policies for Maori persons, among others, so that there is no perceptible difference in the delivery of public services to any group, even that seems reasonable; however attempting to completely reconstitute the nation state has failed in the past, because it violates the Law of Nations, DeVattel 1837, being the basis by which The New Zealand Company could even legally establish their colony in the first instance; and provided the means for two sovereign entities to exist in a singular jurisdiction; and also prohibit legal tyranny, even by so called ‘democracy’;

The plan is not to inform the general protesters that the bill will not be going any further in the parliamentary system anyway. So they will think the failure of the bill will be due to their action and further empower their movement...

I half agree with Maori not giving up sovereignty that is partially correct, but that can only apply if their cheifs did not sign the treaty, but signed a declaration of independence. As once treaty was signed by cheifs the declaration of independence was revoked for them as in my pov the treaty is a signed document we see today as a contract , and those signatures on by the cheifs are on behalf of the people of their iwi , just like for the settlers the crown signed on their behalf, And yes the treaty I believe has not been acknowledged properly by government and the govner generals who represents the crown for generations for both parties maori an non maori, more so for Maori. And why I say for non maori is because the treaty promised to govern with the intent of peace between each other , and because government never honored the treaty agreement for generations reparations have to be paid to maori by nz citizens because of the crowns actions that government decided to make.
@fuctairlines63227 күн бұрын
Billions in reparations have been paid yes but not to Maori. The payments were made to the Tribes. That is why you see these tribal chiefs and elders driving nice BMW's and wearing nice suits while the majority of maori have not seen a single dollar of these reparations. Maybe they get the odd free sausage sizzle or Hangi.

David Seymour’s “New Zealand Bill of Principles”, introduced in 2023, seeks to establish a legal framework to ensure public policy is guided by universal principles, such as individual rights, equality, and the rule of law. Supporters argue that it promotes fairness and cohesion in New Zealand’s diverse society. Here are 10 reasons why some might view this bill as an excellent idea: 1. Affirms Equality Before the Law The bill emphasizes that all individuals should be treated equally under the law, regardless of ethnicity, gender, or other characteristics. This principle aligns with democratic values and seeks to avoid policies that could create divisions or favoritism. 2. Reinforces Individual Rights By focusing on universal rights rather than group-based privileges, the bill aims to ensure that every New Zealander has the same protections and opportunities, fostering a sense of unity and fairness. 3. Addresses Perceptions of Division Some New Zealanders feel that policies framed around ethnicity, such as co-governance, risk dividing the country. This bill seeks to promote national cohesion by prioritizing shared principles over group-specific arrangements. 4. Upholds Democratic Accountability The bill’s principles reinforce the idea that government policies should be accountable to all citizens, rather than specific interest groups. This could reduce the risk of policymaking that favors one group at the expense of others. 5. Clarifies Treaty of Waitangi Interpretation The bill proposes a consistent framework for interpreting the Treaty of Waitangi, emphasizing its original intent to unite Māori and the Crown under a single legal system while respecting property rights and partnerships. This could provide clarity in treaty-related policies. 6. Promotes Cohesion in a Multicultural Society New Zealand is becoming increasingly multicultural. A principles-based approach ensures that public policy caters to everyone equally, avoiding potential resentment or favoritism toward any specific group. 7. Focuses on Meritocracy By prioritizing universal principles over group identity, the bill encourages merit-based opportunities and rewards, fostering innovation and economic productivity. 8. Ensures Transparency in Policy The bill requires policies to be based on clear, universally applicable principles. This could make government decisions more transparent and easier for the public to understand and evaluate. 9. Aligns with International Norms A focus on universal human rights and equality aligns New Zealand’s policy framework with international standards, enhancing its reputation as a fair and democratic society. 10. Encourages Constructive Debate The bill provides a framework for discussing contentious issues like co-governance or affirmative action without resorting to divisive rhetoric. It shifts the focus to shared values, fostering more constructive public discourse. Conclusion David Seymour’s Bill of Principles is designed to create a legal foundation for fairness, unity, and transparency in New Zealand’s governance. While it has been met with both support and criticism, advocates argue that it is an essential step toward addressing growing concerns about equality and national cohesion.

Co-governance is in the treaty. Brits replaced rangatiratanga (run by Māori chiefs) with sovereignty (run by UK royals). My tipuna signed He Whakaputanga (Declaration of Independence) 28.10.1835 and Te Tiriti 17.2.1840. Pōmare believed he had not given up any sovereignty and stated that he was not able to in any case, as it belonged to all of his iwi. Focus on getting in the waka and working together - Kiingi Tuheitia. Kotahitanga ngā iwi Māori katoa.

Tbh a lot of new NZers have been misinformed about Te Tiriti and that's (in part) thanks to our education system for not teaching it. For example, the NZers addressed in Te Tiriti (read in context) are Māori, not the subjects of the Crown (at that time). Another point - our government, as we know it, has its mandate to exist...from Te Tiriti! Not enough people in our country understand this.
