Man I really hope there are other ukulele videos. I can't tell you what a relief it is to watch a tutorial video that doesn't feel incredibly patronizing or commercialized.

I love the attitude at the start, so many people get stuck in those same 4 chords and never bother to learn the fretboard and basic music theory. If you're paying attention to this video you'll already be ahead! Good luck everyone.

I still struggle with the guitar after nearly 45 years so I purchased a Uke about 4 years ago thinking it would be easier. I checked a number of Uke web sites but didn't find any with a similar "short cut". You are really the prince of sharing secrets of guitar & Uke. I love your sense of humor, and your "stretch" is just impressive! Thanks for all the tips.

i started learning and it blew my mind that most beginner ukulele players start off playing chords and not knowing how to play scales. or what the frets mean, or how the chords relate to any of it. it took me forever just to find out how playing individual notes worked lol
@thatswhatisaidCA Жыл бұрын
This is great. I'm just starting, and it's all technical lessons, which is good if you want to be professional I guess, but the lessons forget we want to have fun - right away. The uke is a "fun" instrument, and I believe many (most?) people "just" want to pick it up and play something. I love your way of thinking, it's more feeling and creativity. Of course it's technical, but this feels different than that, and would help people like me whose brain shuts down memorizing theory. I found this very useful, thank you!

Co-worker gave me an old Oscar Schmidt OU-2 last week. Said, "Could never get it to play." Maybe because the bridge had come un-glued and was attached with a single screw in the middle. Or, because the strings were wrapped under the bridge and laying on the uke. Well after a stripping and re-surfacing the soundboard, I put on a new bringe with bone nut & saddle and a set of nylgut strings. Just a little music theory for uke was what I needed and got it in a "short cut." Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

The greatest thing about the ukulele is the filter it gives you. If you meet someone who insists on calling it oo-ka-leh-leh then you can guarantee that you have met a someone to avoid. If you don't it will only be a matter of days before they ask you over for fondue and within a month you'll go to their house and clang!! keys in a bowl.

Can you translate more of your arpeggio work to the uke please? I've just watched some of the guitar videos and I think they'd translate well. Both linear and re-entry tuning is around, which only affects the octave, but is worth mentioning?
