In this first episode, I remove the molded in det cord on the canopy and replace it with self adhesive vinyl. I also paint and assemble the intakes.

MAN! Is there nothing you can't do? Please show all you can on this build since there are so many issues with this kit. You are the master and a joy to watch my friend.

Bravo buddy. Great job on the canopy, I never would have thought to polish out the distortions. Great tips on weathering the intake too. Looking forward to each step of this build!

Great job on the Canopy. Patience wins out, crystal clear & looks much better with the new det.cord. Nice "windmill" for the Pegasus. Good start

Really impressed with your multi-media skills. Shows that skill and experience over a range of devices make the job easier. I would have taken one look at that canopy and said, "No way, dude!" But you made it look easy and the result is amazing. No comparison between the original and finished result. I am going to enjoy this one! I guess there is always You Tube to learn the media techniques you show here...

Beautiful work. I believe the explosives are known as FLSCs or Flexible Linear Shaped Charges. They’re used in jets where the canopy is either too heavy to be blown off before ejection or when the canopy is so thick the ejection seat cannot go thru it without injuring the pilot.

So strange. When I got home the other night, my wife was watching True Lies. First thing that came to my mind was to suggest you do a AV8B from the movie since there were some great detailed shots throughout those scenes. Log on tonight and get the pop up notification and BAM! I know its not from the movie and for a friend of yours but you so good at recreating those movie jets that you should do some more! This thing is a monster and is going to be so cool when its done! Looking forward to the progression of this whole build series. Keep getting Ringo in there too! He's beautiful!

Hey I've seen a large scale B-24 from revell in the day, that thing was big for a plastic model, many screws also. It's sad that I don't much of these models of this scale in my area. Already it's hard to find 1/32 scale version anymore. The last one I found was an 1/32 scale of the F-14 Tomcat with the swing wing. Now a day we only seee 1/48 or 1/72 and 1/144 scale models. So you're lucky to work on a 1/18 version of the Harrier. Nice.
@briancasteel78984 жыл бұрын
Revell, Monogram and Hasegawa all "share" the 1/48 B-24 Molds repackaging them for their various offerings. Hobby Boss makes two B-24 models in 1/32 scale, a D and J model. and they are HUGE!. The 1/18 stuff you are seeing from Hobby Boss now are actually from a pre-built toy line that they reconfigured into an assemble-it-yourself kit. The first offering was from Merit (part of the Trumpeter/Hobby boss family) and it was a 1/18 Dauntless, there are more on the way. The 1/18 toy line is perfect for your G.I. Joe action figures, should you have any.

I'd be willing to buy a couple of those Cricut made DET Cords from you, I read the entire Patrick Sparks thread on LSP and i saw that he somehow got a canopy that was in perfect condition, no defects that i could see, i on the other hand got one like yours. so i will have to do exactly what you did to your canopy.

Mine hust turned up two days ago (ordered it before the outbreak). It's construction is like a G.I.Joe vehicle, so I'm running with that idea and making a custom Joe bird. I decided on a RAF style woodland camo scheme, and will get Joe stickers from Toyhax. I'm not worrying too much about realism, just enjoying making a big giant plane. (Make sure to attach the front landing gear doors early, because if you follow the instructions you'll have to force them in.)

You will need to go to Sherwin Williams and get a couple of gallon cans to paint this beast.
@toboldlygosmodelworks19734 жыл бұрын
Two things to note, the det-cord in the canopy wouldn't stay white for long once UV got on it, secondly if your going to weather her back to primer - rear fuselage (from the center of the front nozzles) will be Strontium Chromate (yellow-green Tamiya XF-4 is pretty damn close), almost everywhere else would be a metallic blue-green ;)

The joys of Trumpeter taking another company's (Merit) toy model and breaking it down to kit form
@meauxjeaux4313 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. I do believe that it is nothing more than a TOY kit from Merit, or another similar TOY company, because the rivets and panel lines are way over scaled. Kits that size should be EASY to mold realistically. It's obvious that it wasn't designed from a blank sheet of paper. it's just a glue together toy.....PERIOD !
@christurbo9514 жыл бұрын
I’m basically finished with my kit. The decals are really difficult to work with. The landing gear is functional. The snake eye bombs are detailed and actually deploy fins. For the rear nozzles I used jet exhaust and gunmetal from model master. I will post a video of mine.

I’ll look forward to your vid! I’m not going to be using the decals, gonna try to paint everything. Got some resin JDAMS to put on it as well.

I hate to sound like a noob but does anyone know what he used to polish the cockpit to clear up the sanding marks?
@seanerk5kt94 жыл бұрын
Hey noob...just kidding:). After sanding, I started with polishing with Turtle wax rubbing compound, then with Turtle wax polishing compound, and finally Meguiars plastic polish. All of which I got at Walmart. Hope that helps!
@briancasteel78984 жыл бұрын
@@seanerk5kt9 If you don't mind my 2 cents, Micromesh sanding pads and paper are great for this. I also use the Novus plastic polishes at the end of the Micromesh process.

Not impressed at all. The rivets and panel lines are way over scaled. Details like that on a 1/18 scale kit should have been very easy to replicate. It's typical of all of Hobbyboss 1/18 scale kits too, not just that particular kit.

Not criticizing your building skills at all, because, you have all of your ducks in a row when it comes to that, but I am NOT impressed with that kit at all. The rivets and panel lines are way over scaled. Details like that on a 1/18 scale kit should have been very easy to replicate. It's typical of all of the HobbyBoss 1/18 scale kits too, not just that particular kit. All of their 1/18 kits are very toyish looking, and are best viewed from at least eight feet away, or in low light conditions if viewed closer.
