Nice vid and can you do a video about how to sight fish, lightning, trout, or how to catch lightning trout
@SeaSpankerOutdoors20 күн бұрын
Ive actually been getting alot of requests for a sight fishing video so im just working out how im gonna do it. As far as catching lightning, one thing that works is bright colored jigs. Especially orange/yellow. Once they’ve been introduced into a lake the bright colors look natural to the other fish. Just like bright colors will work well for some trout during spawning

Great video Rob!!! This helps so much. Would you do something like this for the eastern sierras? I’m interested in where to stay, when and how you plan the trips with where to fish.
@SeaSpankerOutdoors21 күн бұрын
I would but there are just so many places to stay as well as fish it would be incredibly long haha. Im am kicking around the idea of showing what I do when I go up on a specific trip to the sierras. Showing where im staying and what lakes im planning on hitting
@jeremykeith315221 күн бұрын
@ thats what I mean. I go a lot but run around with my head cut off! From bishop creek to Bridgeport. My favorite is North Lake and Lundy. Not as much for the fishing but more for the scenery.
@SeaSpankerOutdoors21 күн бұрын
@ to be honest thats what we do. We hit multiple lakes each day looking for biters

The two rod allows you to fish with two at same time, i.e., in a boat trolling. Each permit costs, so you double your costs. There is good camping at pelican point (north of the boat launch)with level asphalt pads for setting up campers and fairly decent toilets. Camping costs/vehicle, so it is best to show up in one vehicle.
@SeaSpankerOutdoors20 күн бұрын
Thanks for the info. That makes perfect sense. I wasn’t thinking about trolling haha

This is a GREAT teaching video! Thanks so much. A question about RHA spoons. I have never been to Pyramid, but have fished them in other waters. I like them, but to me the hook seems to be too close to the body of the spoon. I like to switch out the hooks for open eye Siwash hooks that have a longer shank. I would be interested to know what you think about this.
@SeaSpankerOutdoors21 күн бұрын
I agree and change out all my hooks for ones with larger eyes. I also like to add swivels above the hook. I feel it helps preventing the fish from spitting the hook especially if they jump

Have you ever tried fishing hair jigs for trout? It seems like it’s not very popular in the California area
@SeaSpankerOutdoors11 күн бұрын
I have in the past and there are some small companies out here that make them but since they are hand made they are expensive. I dont think that one works necessarily better that the other, it just comes down to personal preference and what you think is gonna catch you more fish
@Ninj_SRG11 күн бұрын
@ i think where hair jigs shine is windy overcast days under a bobber. The bobber moves up and down from the waves and drifts slowly. The hair jig just dances at the perfect depth. With that being said I only fish with marabou since it moves with the slightest touch. If you have a PO box I can send you some I use for steelhead! I generally use 1/32 oz

I have a medium heavy rod and I just bought some super tubes with the 1/4 ounce weight. I feel like I made a mistake because I’ll be fishing from shore but I also feel like I won’t be able to cast a 1/8th with the heavy
@SeaSpankerOutdoors20 күн бұрын
You should be just fine. A heavy set up isnt ideal but itll work until you can get something a bit lighter 🤘

I live kinda close to the lake, besides staying on the lake. Sparks is one of the closest town to the lake. U can stay at the hotels at the legends outlet. Or western village casino at the sparks marina. Only about a mile off pyramid hwy. N why not pre fish the sparks marina while u at it(for tiger trout)😊. Scheels is a huge 2 story sporting good store. They have a bunch of guys that specialize in pyramid fishing. Only about 100yds from the hotels
@capo337g16 күн бұрын
Also, a bunch of the houses around the sparks marina are airbnb. You will be next to 2 smaller casinos, good food, decent fishing and a huge sporting goods store. All within a 3 minute walk.

What would they constitute as "bait" vs "artificial"? Would those berkley mousetails be considered bait because its pinned with a hook or because it comes scented? Also what about some of the mini jigs or drop shot soft plastics that also come scented?
@SeaSpankerOutdoorsКүн бұрын
Anything with scent cannot be used. That said, you can dropshot or “slow wind” a Carolina rig and it doesn’t matter what you have on there as long as it’s unscented and artificial with a barbless hook. The main thing they are trying to do is prevent the fish from getting “gut hooked” or swallowing the bait. Most of the fly fishermen fish flys under a bobber so it would be fine to use a bobber and an unscented micetail as the bobber would help prevent the fish from swallowing the hook if that makes sense
