Scuffed bit about Skylanders was they actually had some diamonds in the rough with their 3DS games. Instead of focusing on lame combat and puzzles whose solutions amounted to "own the proper toy". The 3DS games were Sonic-esque platformer, time attack racers with light beat 'em up elements. The fun bit was that not all levels suited every type of toy. You might think that the fliers would be OP but there were limitations to what they could do and the flight being more of a glide meant that tricky platforming while trying to go as fast as possible could easily result in over shooting targets. The variety of characters was a boon as they all had subtle variations in how they controlled due to size, speed and method of locomotion. So replaying levels over and over never really got old as there was always some new learning curve to account for. I stand by my assessment from back then that they were dumping all of their effort and money into the wrong games. The larger console games were never half as enjoyable in spite of the larger, more elaborate production.

It *almost* feels self aware, and to a degree I'm sure it is, but between all the different developers and the total sincerity it handles its narrative I think at best a couple of devs were able to convince the suits to go along with their more outlandish ideas.

I know Yahtz's intention is to stop us from playing it, but honestly the insantiy he's describing makes me wanna play it more. I've always enjoyed CoD campaigns but I skipped MWIII because I didnt hear good things about it and I was going through a FPS burnout at that time. But I am quite curious about this one. Maybe I'll try it when the price is okay in G2A or something Edit: I just learned that its on game pass. Ima just play it on that, maybe finish it in a week, and spend the rest of the subscription playing something like Hi Fi Rush
@chillsy_pluto11 сағат бұрын
from what I've played it's quite decent, marginally better than anything the rebooted Modern Warfare series has to offer but that's a low bar. there are sections i just outright disliked like the open-world mission that was mentioned by Yahtzee

I watched the campaign from an online gamer's point of view. I think the reason it has so many different gameplay styles - even the Puzzle House - is because CoD gamers don't buy other games. They don't even look in the direction of other games. This is a whole generation of gameplay variety that they missed out on because this is their gaming. They aren't "Gamers" they are "Call of Duty Enthusiasts" and have thus missed out on nearly every major trend in gaming as a hobby since they began buying the franchise and have therefor been left out of every significant conversation. It's even got single player perks you can "Level Up" but only if you find enough missable money by using the unique and brand-new-to-CoD mechanic of "Exploring the Levels" for "Secrets". It's like the team that Activision has enslaved to make this game knew their precious cash babies were falling behind the other gamers who actually try new games and play more than one game at a time and didn't want little Johnny to be the only child on the playground still in diapers after 20 games.

I maintain call of duty peaked, with the original modern warfare made in 2007. The campaigns of the series quickly descended into unplayable madness from there, with mw3's being one of the dubious honors of actually making me throw a controller in a rage fit because of cheap design choices and the unfair trope of infinitely respawning enemies with infinite grenades to toss making that final big level nigh on impossible to finish. And not even a bonus reward for going through that hell. Once they decided to nix the singleplayer campaign, it's been all too easy to ignore. And nowadays it's still reusing the same engine license since 2007, _and_ wants a *300GB download* to boot!

I had fun playing it on the whole, but as soon as the sci-fi section and the existential puzzle section rolled around, I just couldn't wait for it to be over I played CoD to shoot lots of things and make their heads explode in a nonsense spectical of explosions and macho-ness, not to have an existential crisis in the mind of a character we'd only met like twice
