So much teeing up for reveals, twists, and teases, and "wet fart" is a great way to describe how it went out. Mystery shows, even more so than mystery movies, can set things up, but they need payoff. Otherwise, it feels like they robbed you of your time. The only big payoff that may impact things is that Rhodey missed out on events - that hopefully don't end up going back as far as Civil War because it doesn't make any sense AT ALL. I'm hoping we see Emilia Clarke again, but the effects have to wear off or have some kind of limitation, ffs.

And then they never justified him by having him pull off a clever plan without their help.
@stuartlittle281 Жыл бұрын
Except, he's a spymaster, and was established as Supervising Officer to several subordinate agents at the time of Captain Marvel and got promoted for his actions in that film to a higher level. His role is managing and directing other assets for the good of national/global security, and not so much doing the legwork himself. It's really not all that different from how he's always been shown in the MCU recruiting the heroes to do the work he identifies as needing done, or his limited appearances as a superior in Agents of SHIELD. The fact he seemingly took all the credit for the Skrulls work is bad, but he's not supposed to be much of a field agent after a certain point.

Rhodey has not been gone since Civil War. He was kidnapped between Endgame and Falcon and Winter Soldier. Gravik didn't even decide to revolt until after Endgame and falcon and winter soldier is the first time we see him walk without the leg braces. He had a spinal injury. He would be in and out of the hospital for the rest of his life. Him being in a hospital gown doesn't override the fact that the skrulls literally didn't start kidnapping people until post endgame

Even throughout phase 4 and 5 when other people are bashing marvel for ot not being as good i think its actually been pretty darn good considering a post endgame world that needs to reestablish things. This is the first project for me to make me think marvel is losing their way. Secret invasion felt like the dceu put this out. It makes you question everything that youve seen in previous movies in not a good way, in what should be an absolute badass show featuring sam jack nick fury his character is all over the place, and to top it off i thought well even if they put the greater mcu world at risk by releasing this series maybe this show as a standalone is pretty great when you dont think about the greater implications. Sadly no the individula story at play is serviceable at best with whatever characters doing whatever things. Not to say i thought this show was a total dumpster fire i did like some things, but wow the mcu has a lot of cleaning up to do after this one, or the more likely case they will probably act like this never happened.

The most annoying thing about this is what a waste of a story it is. I think what happened is things like Secret Invasion were planned years ago when it wasn't certain that Disney would get X-Men and FF. Secret Invasion could easily have been an Infinity War or Civil War like crossover film, with big characters revealed as skrulls, and that was probably the intention. But then there was the perfect storm of Disney wanting to get on to FF and X-Men films, and also wanting to churn out a million movies and TV shows a year, so Secret Invasion got thrown on the TV pile. It seems rushed as hell too. I would bet that the episode lengths were all closer to 45 minutes to an hour, because you can tell from the editing that a ton of dialogue has been cut out. Look at Gravik's monologue to Fury in the last episode - we're watching the back of his head for most of it, and it continually cuts to this awkwardly blocked shot behind the machine that looks like it was probably only intended as B-roll for quick cuts, but the editors needed more than one shot of the back of Gravik's head so we keep cutting back to it. That tells me that his monologue needed to be changed dramatically. There are tons more weird editing moments - an odd shot of Fury reacting at Maria Hill's funeral which is abruptly cut for example. It's so weird. This show definitely got gutted in post production for some reason.

I have been on the MCU train since the start, but after Endgame, let's be honest, the quality is patchy at best, but also has the lowest lows, looking at Thor and Antman's last movies especially . But worse, why adapt these classic stories, if your going just ignore 90% of the source material. Endgame etc gets away with it by being arguably just as good or filled with such amazing moments, you forgive it, but oh lord, I could have just missed SI and it wouldn't of mattered at all sadly.....

This show is a prime example of a piece of media that posits a lot of interesting questions, but is wholly unequipped and uninterested in answering any of them. It infers a lot of questions about characters, their motivations, their potential for growth...but every single character in this show either ends up exactly where they started, or dead. I can all but guarantee we will never see or hear about G'aih or Pricilla ever again, and no one will ever reference anything that happened in this show. At it's best it's a middling show that failed to justify its own existence, was a poor use of the talents of those involved, and it retroactively makes past MCU projects connected to it worse. There are a handful of MCU projects I don't like, but this is one of only two I would classify as straight up bad (the other being Thor: Love & Thunder, which is easily the single worst thing Marvel has ever produced and even thinking about it pisses me off). Also, no one has said Rhodey got got after Civil War. The director gave a super non-committal, bullshit answer to a straightforward question because he doesn't know and can't say definitively. It's after Endgame, because if it's not that fucks up SO MUCH, and it doesn't matter because even if post-Civil War was the intention the reaction has been so negative they'll retcon it.

As I've said before: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. S4 did Secret Invasion better than Secret Invasion did. (Also, regarding the budget: the show didn't cost $200m on its own. That was due to the pandemic causing a lot of budgets to balloon as well as Secret Invasion having FOUR months of reshoots, which is unheard of. I definitely was disappointed by the end, given that I thought this was going to be genuinely great and it was just good. But there is something that I am constantly surprised by is the comparison to the comic book story. Maybe it was because I only read the main storyline, but I was really surprised at how much I disliked the comics. I thought they were some of the worst writing in a major comic event I've ever read. It was constantly just pure convenient and weird reveals. I really didn't like it. But everyone else seems to like it. So, it's been the opposite experience for me in terms of the adaptation. Most people seem to think they dropped the ball on adapting a great comic. I thought they took one of the worst comics and made a mostly enjoyable show. That said, it felt like the show was rushed in almost every way except for the visuals. I totally get why people aren't satisfied. I ultimately did like it a lot more than I didn't. It just could have been a lot better than it was.

Just to be sure I'm not communicating anything I didn't intend to, I am fully acknowledging how much this is just my personal take on the show and the comic. My being surprised all the time about others' views on the comic is just my not being able to see it from their point of view. Not panning anybody for liking the comic. I'm actually glad people like it, because it means a comic team is having their work appreciated.

I love the comic adaptation for everything the MCU has done a lot more in the comics. Secret Invasion I LOVE. I love Secret Invasion stuff in the avengers cartoon more than this show honestly. I still liked it more than these guys though. I wouldn't put it dead last.

I was in a bit of denial for the past week but finally realized that the show is straight trash. A $200 million budget is a joke. Honestly, at this point, use the multiverse thing to just reboot the MCU and bring on a totally different creative team. Or just can that whole thing
