The reason the dice were way more ham fisted was because there were three classic movies that we’d had for 30 years featuring that character, and these dice had never meant anything. This is explaining where she got a vest between two movie appearances-both of which were large ensemble pieces where there wasn’t a ton of time to focus on that character. Now we know a little more about the vest, it’s a fun little thing. With the dice we’re supposed to believe they were this highly significant thing for a character the entire time we knew him.

Something I never see coming in these: I 100% agree with Nick and Kevin about the vest! Last Jedi and Solo attempted to make the dice emotionally important to the characters AND the audience and failed. Black Widows vest is a funny emotional touchstone for Nat NOT the audience. We are not meant to have an emotional connection to the vest, they are not beating us over the head with it to manipulate emotion and tug at our heartstrings. They highlight it yes but the vest bit is not doing that in the slightest because it’s not meant to be that important. PS Greg’s tomfoolery ALWAYS gives me joy! Never change sir! The difference between the Star Wars dice and the vest that I CANNOT BELIEVE nobody mentioned was the tone. The vest thing was incredibly lighthearted. just a fun little nod. The difference between the dice in solo and the vest is exactly what Nick said, the vest serves a comedic purpose that builds a relationship between two characters, a purpose external to the meta “remember this from the previous movie?” that is all the dice have in the SW movies. If you watch Infinity War now you’ll be reminded of the character development Nat had in this movie and her relationship with her sister. When you see the dice you’ll think oh yeah those dice from that other movie.

As someone who fucking HATES Solo, I can tell you with extreme authority that the vest in this movie's is NOTHING like Solo's vest. Solo connects a load of meaningless and insignificant shit about Han Solo that he mentioned or had in the original movie to the ONE adventure he had like 10 years earlier. It's ALL EXTREMELY forced and contrived. Yelena's vest, on the other hand, is a completely natural inclusion in the Black Widow movie that immediately predates Natasha's appearance in Infinity War. Her Infinity War appearance and vest were completely unexplained and out of place for the character in a story that directly follows this. The vest being a cherished parting gift from her little sister that she wears as part of her disguise when she goes back on the run makes perfect sense. Her sister loved it for how useful and tactical it was, and Nat wore it a bunch because it was her sister's and it was genuinely useful. Perfectly reasonable explanation for why she shows up dressed unusually in Infinity War. The unusualness of the vest in Infinity War MADE IT an unanswered question. The fact that it stood out from her norm gave it significance. It was never just arbitrary clothing the way Solo's stuff was. Solo's shit was all questions that nobody asked. Questions that were never implied. Questions that could've been answered by all manner of adventures throughout his life. There was no immediacy or unusualness showing that Han's stuff were recent additions or meaningful changes. Likewise with Budapest. This movie does it naturally. Yelena knew Nat's most recent safehouse had been the one in Budapest, so she used the Budapest safehouse to get the antidote to Nat, and in turn that drew Nat back to Budapest. "Dreykov's daughter" is a circular thing to attempt to judge. We didn't know who Dreykov was. Making him the leader of the Red Room makes as much sense as anything. The idea that Nat had defected to SHIELD by killing its leader and destroying the Red Room, rather than leaving her little sister trapped in it, makes perfect sense. A little girl being used as bait to ensure her father was dead is SUPER brutal and fucked up, and helps explain why Nat feels so guilty about the shit she's done, and why Loki would single that out to fuck with her head. It all just fits in a really organic and logical way, even if it was constructed in reverse. Again, there was nothing organic about Solo's approach of one adventure from 10 years ago being the source of every single thing in Han's life, and Han obsessively talking about ONLY that one single adventure in the Original Trilogy. It basically ruins Han as a character, and makes him that guy who spends his life obsessed with that time he won the big game in high school.

With Greg and Kev as usual. On point with where this movie sits in this list.

Florence Pugh and David Harbour were obvious highlights. I thought Taskmaster was handled very poorly, I was hoping for a recurring hitman type villain I hope doesn't end up being a one off. Draykov was a completely 2 dimensional villain, very mediocre. I loved the intimate one on one action but the bombastic over the top falling from skies cg fest didn't work for me. And ultimately Black Widow's fate being known really lowers the stakes and the impact of the movie. I just hope we get to see more of Red Guardian in the MCU in the future too.

If Greg having a newborn baby ensures future opportunities to have him regularly loopy and goofy like this for more In Reviews I can’t wait! Greg derailing these with his beautiful nonsense is always a highlight!! 🤣😂🤣

I don't agree with Tim at all on comparing it to Solo. With Solo, those references all call attention to themselves. Here, they don't so for someone like me who only remembered Budapest being referenced, I didn't even recognize them as references.

First off! I’m Team Nick and Kevin on the vest issue. Second: the amount of times Taskmaster was incorrectly pronounced as “ Task Masker” in this in-review? In the hundreds 😂 THIRDLY: Everybody saying how cheesy an actor this bad guy (aka the departed guy) was.. HOW SOON YOU FORGET!! This fool is the “ JONESY JONESEYYY!!” Dude from Indiana Jones and the Crystal skull. He sucks so much.
