What you wouldn’t think about is what we got in 2002 between the Los Angeles Lakers and New Jersey Nets ... because that was the Worst NBA Finals Ever.

2002 was the most lopsided NBA finals of all time. Remember when I was in 6th grade and EVERYONE knew the lakers were going to take over. It was like no one even knew who the nets were or cared.

the 2007 1995 and 1989 finals were pretty shitty too..just saying....not all nba finals are created equal...but 02 an 07 were clearly the 2 worst mismatches of records talent and teams and coaches ever especially on offense....but 2002 was really bad....not only was it a sweep but the nets never had a chance...even if they won 1 game like come on..they weren't gonna win 2...even in 95 and 07 we had some close games...and the 89 lakers and pistons were a rematch and had similar talent....its just injuries and the pistons revenge motivation on their way to 2 titles made them sweep a lakers dynasty ending kareems career....it wasn't that bad....that 02 finals was just sad...

Funny to see you people talking about those finals, but you know what was the most lopsided finals in history? 2014, old Spurs facing the Miami big 3 (+ HOFER coming off the bench). Numbers don't lie, the margin of victory: 14 pts differential. A team with no legit star, the former Big 3 all past their prime, a upcoming Leonard who took everyone by surprise... They raped LeBron and his super friends. This is the greatest humiliation in NBA history, it was something historical. BUT, considering that ESPN don't highlight this because of obvious reasons, they don't want to tarnish LeBron's image (even more).

Just because a series is a sweep, or that one team is favored to win over the other, doesn't mean it wasn't a good NBA Finals. The 2002 Finals were FAR more watchable than the 2003 and 2007 Finals, THOSE were some boring series. I have the entire 6 Game series of 2003 Finals on VHS and that was some atrocious basketball outside of the one game where Duncan got screwed out of a quadruple double. The television ratings don't lie, the 1979, 1981, 2003, & 2007 Finals are by far the lowest rated NBA Finals in history. People did not watch those series. The 2002 Finals got better ratings than the 2014 Finals even, it wasn't even in the ballpark of lowest rated series. The 2007 Finals is the lowest rated Finals of all time.

I'm one of the biggest Laker fans there are, but that 2002 NBA Finals were nothing but a formality. The real finals was the WCF, and as for the officiating, well, I have no comment. I do love the comments you made afterwards regarding what happened afterwards, and I thought it was funny when you mentioned that Kobe went on to miss more shots than anybody else in NBA history. If you think about it, you've got to be a pretty good player to have the opportunity to miss that many times, and also pretty crazy and willful.

Tim Donaghy was the referee in that series and he admitted that he was involved with some bad people and he made sure that the Lakers won the series, he admitted that, even to the FBI. If that isn't proof, then I don't know what is. And regarding who gets the championship: nobody. The year would simply have no champion. But the NBA doesn't want that black mark in its history, so they won't do that, ever. Sadly. In my mind, the Lakers only won 2 champions in those 3 years.

Now, Sacramento has to suffer even more when other teams beat them to the punch for NBA titles and NBA Finals appearances including a former coach in Michael Malone and the Denver Nuggets.

I agree though, at least in 2018, we saw LeBron James put up one hell of a fight in Game 1, and also got all the memes out of JR Smith's costing them the game. And at least it was between teams that had a strong history in recent years so there was a storyline factor. And the battle for who would be Finals MVP. And the fact that both teams came back from 3-2 down in the Conference Finals against teams that kept missing threes. Not a great Finals, but better than 2002.

The list of notable players is pretty short: Kenyon Martin, Mike Miller, Jamal Crawford, Hedo, Jamaal Magloire, and Michael Redd. Redd has the only All-NBA (third team) which is definitely punches way above his draft pick of 43.

Because the 2016 draft was even worse. Even before the draft, analysts predicted a weak draft class, with only the top 2 picks (Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram) likely to be high quality players. After Simmons was injured all season and Ingram underperformed, the 2017 Rookie of the Year was awarded to Malcolm Brogdon, a second round pick (36th overall)! What's more, the other two leading candidates for the award that year Joel Embiid (played 31 games) and Dario Saric were drafted in 2014! On the other hand, since that first season, some players have emerged: Ben Simmons, Brandon Ingram, Jaylen Brown, Domanatas Sabonis, Pascal Siakam and Dejounte Murray have all been all-stars, with Simmons and Siakam being All-NBA, and Simmons winning ROY the following year(2018).

Derek Fisher was criticized his entire career for being a mediocre player that was only good on defense and he still couldn't keep up with the faster guards. Fox and Horry were great role players, sure, but they were never scoring options. B. Shaw was good though, and an aging Harper.

we have only had 8 nba finals sweeps all time  and 5 since 1976...and 7 since 1959 .... so yeah not much to choose from cause if you at least win a game it means you deserved to be there I guess cause you proved for one night at least you can beat the other team but like to me the 95 and 07 finals even though they were sweeps were closer series then they appear and way closer  games and talent levels than say the 2004 pistons lakers or 2014 heat spurs or 1999 spurs knicks...which all ended in 5 and could have been sweeps but I will say at least those series were at one point in doubt and 1-1 or 2-1 so people and fans could fell like they had a chance   .....cause man let me tell you that didnt happen to the nets fans...the 2002 finals was a true mismatch of coaches teams talent .... 1971 bucks bullets similar talent good games....1975 bullets warriors similar talent close games...83 lakers 6ers similar talent...the 2007 finals was a joke cause larry hughes the cavs 3rd best player and 2nd scorer got hurt  before the finals and missed the finals so the teams were mismatched in the backcourt and the spurs just had more bench talent but it wasn't that big a mistmatch....the cavs only got there cause LeBron willed them past a better team in the pistons with a godly performance so I will give you that but they still had LeBron who was averaging 31 7 and 6  a game and  3 of the finals games came down to the last 4 minutes, 2 of the games were decided by a combined 5 points so it was winnable with a minute to go cavs just choked at home in games 3 and 4 otherwise it goes 6........... 95 finals was also a sweep...game 1 went to ot...magic almost won 2 games...similar talent...penny d scott shaq horrace grant nick Anderson brian shaw vs Drexler hakeem smith horry  same cassel and Mario ellie...not a mismatch....the 1989 finals were a joke...that's the closest thing to the 2002 finals...lakers dynasty came to a crashing end but they still had talent...though they  had  prime magic kareem prime worthy but they had injuries and the pistons were motivated to get revenge after getting robbed in the 1988 finals in game 7 in la ...so yeah..that wasn't really a mismatch I guess even if it was a sweep....the 2002 finals were a mismatch of talent...period...

not really....cavs had a chance to win 3 of the games and lost games 3 and 4 by a combined 4 points..and lost all 4 games by only a combined 24 points...that's only 6 on average..there was never a full on blowout...its was a close series but the spurs just knew how to close.....the nets just got outmatched and we all predicted it...that's why it sucked...
