I am a UConn fan through and through and adore Auriemma, but I also have so much respect for Pat Summitt as a coach and as a person. Despite how demanding and disciplined she was, she was never afraid to be herself; I remember when Bruce Pearl was in the stands as a shirtless fan during a Lady Vols game, and Summitt showed her appreciation by dressing up like a cheerleader and singing "Rocky Top" at the a future men's game, which blew my mind given her cold sideline demeanor. Part of me wonders if the “odd behaviour” Coach Summitt displayed were the beginning stages of her dementia. I know from extensive experience that even before the worst of it appears, out of character choices start cropping up. Friendships that were vital are suddenly over because of a small slight. Moods shift faster than the speed of light. Habits that were engrained for decades change drastically. I hope as we learn more about dementia and Alzheimer’s that we can start to see these signs in more tangible ways. That way, we can help our loved ones that are struggling with it. Most of all: Rest in power, Pat and kudos to Geno for doing his all at the end to restore their friendship. ❤️

Very good video, fair IMO. I was trying to remember the accusation against UConn that stuck regarding Maya Moore. As best I can recall, Maya was on a recruiting visit to UConn, and Maya was interested in visiting the ESPN headquarters, which are located in Connecticut (about an hour's drive from the UConn campus...it's a small state). UConn allowed Maya to use an office phone to call ESPN to inquire about tour hours. Technically, that is an NCAA violation, in that UConn "provided university resources for the private benefit of a recruit." The NCAA slapped UConn's hands but did not punish them any further, given the low severity of the violation. No other complaint against the recruiting of Moore stuck. I'm a huge UConn fan, and I really enjoy and appreciate Geno. However, this video makes it pretty clear why others would hate him. If you read quotes from him without tone of voice or context, then all the humor and "this is silly"/"I'm-- a stupid goof for going there, but I'm gonna anyway" tone is drained out of the statements. As a result, they sound 10x nastier than intended. Also, and probably more importantly, if people have no experience with the sporting world of "the northeast corridor" (Philadelphia up through Boston), then you wouldn't understand that Geno's jabs at Pat--as obnoxious and "poking" as they are--are *right* *in* *line* with how us northeastern people do our sports. Actually, Geno's comments would be considered tame compared to how the northeast sports fans go at each other. (To give you a bit of context, Philadelphia sports fans are considered to be the nastiest sports fans in the country, and during Red Sox and Yankees games at Fenway Park, the outfielders for the Yankees said they had to dodge batteries being hurled at them from the bleacher seats by Red Sox fans. That "evil empire" crack was made at exactly the time a Red Sox executive was calling the Yankees that and the Red Sox were about to make a historic comeback and finally "break the curse" to win the World Series in '04...the last year that UConn and Tennessee met in the NCAA finals. Yankees suck" bumper stickers and chants, and "I hate the Yankees!" comments are considered to be "light-hearted fun" in Boston. Children participate in these chants, and no one thinks twice about it.) None of this translates well to the sporting world outside of the northeast corridor. " Throwing batteries aside, super intense/insane/competitive banter is part of the "fun" for us in the northeast. Notre Dame coach Muffet McGraw understood this and "gave it right back" much better than Pat, because she and Geno both grew up in the Philadelphia area. (Though Muffet and Geno's relationship worsened as a result of a similar kind of intensity of competition and familiarity...UConn and Notre Dame played each other 4x a year for a number of years running, there.)

Northeast sports are how they are because in other places they will put yal in check. The way northeasterns talk to each other will easily be seen as disrespectful in other places. Project pat had good quote about it when discussing how dudes from NY joke around with each other but go go Memphis and say the same things and it would be a serious issue. Geno knew what he was saying and why he was saying it. "There's truth in jokes" as they say. He should've been a real man and said what he meant in a serious tone. That's cowardly to take shots at someone and hide behind them as jokes, especially a man coming at a woman. Lost a lot of respect for Geno after learning this.

Pat didn't really have to be very vocal when she was mad. The had the GLARE.

Would love to see a Prism episode on Daniel Ricciardo if y’all decide to dip your toes into F1. Another one: A Collapse Episode on Williams Racing. How a once family-owned F1 team that won nine constructors titles and seven drivers titles in the 1980s and 1990s fell to near the bottom of the F1 totem pole.

My dad did sports information stuff for UNC 's women's basketball in the 90s. Nothing but great things to say about Summitt, nothing but bad about Auriemma.

As much as this is one of the juicier beefs, you can tell that it was all for show. As soon as something 'real' happened, it was gone and total support was offered!

I started watching watching women's basketball because of Coach Summitt. Total class. Molding young women into adults was her gift. I'm certain the women that played for her would tell you they're better off for it. Go Vols!

NCAA and Professional Women’s Basketball has literally been trying to get back to the point these two brought it to since it ended. These teams both helped and hurt the sport for the women. It’s finally slowly growing again but u paid attention when these two teams played each other and when they ran through the NCAA Tournament, it was basically a must watch. 30 years ago
