Do the 2008 Phillies and their “perfect” decline from winning the World Series. In order, they went from winning the World Series to losing the WS to losing in the semifinals to losing in the Divisional, to missing the playoffs and finishing 3rd in the division, to finishing 4th in the division, to finishing 5th in the division, to finishing with the worst record in baseball.

@@jacobendicott7208 it's so nice to see our team finally doing great again. It's such a shame it took so long because we've had some decent teams since then but we never had good enough QB to get us there, let's be honest, the main reason we won the first superbowl was because of our defense and O-line, Brad Johnson was a mediocre quarterback at best but we had a good O-line and a great defense an any mediocre quarterback should be able to do good with a little extra time throw and a defense that puts points on the board when they can't lol

I think the biggest problem was Gruden didn't evolve the way the league was going. Also, having two future of the franchises turning to bust doesn't help either. Wrong! The defense was Dungy's and Kiffin's, but McKay overhauled the offense that offseason. Keenan McCardell, Joe Jurevicus, Michael Pittman, Ken Dilger and Greg Spires all signed with the Bucs in 2002 and made significant contributions to that championship run.

@johncaparulo4800
@johncaparulo4800 3 жыл бұрын
Nobody seems to remember Bill Parcells’ role in all of this. The Bucs fired Tony Dungy with the intent to hire Parcells as his replacement. However, the Big Tuna changed his mind at the last minute leaving Tampa Bay without a head coach. Facing embarrassment and significant public criticism, the Buccaneers were desperate to find a new head coach of higher or at least equal caliber to the one they had just fired. That’s why they were ultimately so willing to relinquish draft picks and whatever else they gave the Raiders in exchange for Gruden.

I remember those last years of the NFC Central very well. For me the Bucs collapse boils down to two (or three) decisions. Correct me if i'm wrong. One was adding Keyshawn in the first place. His personality was too much for his overrated abilities as a receiver to compensate: players who could stretch the defense, like Marvin Harrison or Reggie Wayne, would have been better complements to McCardell. The other was getting rid of Lynch and Sapp, who still had productive years after TB and were still better than whoever replaced them

The Bucs immediate downfall was from Jon Gruden having too much control. I remembered when Keenan McCardell was up for contract talks. Gruden stiffed the guy after Gruden allegedly promised McCardell that he would work things out with him next year. When a man like McCardell would refuse to talk to Gruden, one has to consider if any of us were in McCardell's shoes. Between men, a lie like that is the worse thing imaginable between men. I know it's business. But if someone says: "You have my word," or "I promise," we all hold each other accountable. That in my opinion was a snake move.

No, that was because our nickel CB was dinged up and in the final 6 mins Manning threw to whoever our replacement CB was covering. He literally just picked on one guy for 80% of the comeback. Then aided them with the 2nd worst call ever on Simeon Rice . ( #1 flag on Hasselback for tackling two Steelers on INT return in SB).

I remember my bro telling me next day , on a landline dorm phone no doubt, how the Colts scored like a record 3 TDs in like 5 minutes . And back then you had to wait until NFL Countdown came on to see the game. You knew it was gonna be one of the top games so they wouldn't show it 10:40pm. They had 3 I'll songs when doing the top team broadcast and they had it for this game and the highlights of Manning just decimating Tampa was insane. You knew this kid was someone you didn't wanna mess around with . Like on another level

@@markboston9303 For me that, and Super Bowl 51 were the best games i've ever witnessed. Of course there has been excellent and incredible back and forth games over the past 20 or so years (since i've been watching football), but there's something about an improbable comeback when a quarterback gets insanely hot that is just so exciting. In a crazy back and forth game, it's great and nerve racking, but you're just not really left stunned and 'in awe' of what just happened, unlike how you are when you witness a huge comeback.

It's not a small feat to win a championship. There's been what 7 teams besides the Pats in the last 10 years (Giants, Seahawks, Eagles, Broncos, Ravens, Steelers, Saints, Packers. Might be missing 1). Going back to the time of the Bucs win, the Colts are the only other team to win. Having said that, the Bucs collapse has been brutal. Cadillac Williams got injured and was never able to fully recover. They had some decent 1st round picks at the end of the decade (Aqib Talib and Adrian Clayborn have won rings since leaving). A loss to the lowly Lions in 2010 prevented the Bucs from making the playoffs (the team, particularly Josh Freeman, was on fire to end the season). Found what we thought was the franchise QB, but the newly hired coach and QB clashed. Both were gone after a year or 2. Since 2013, it's been endless coaching and QB carousels..until drafting another potential franchise QB (Jameis Winston), but he hasn't dominated for an extended period of times (some good games here and there). Oh yeah, and the defense has been at the bottom of the NFL for the past few years. It's been a wild ride, and I'm grateful for that defense they once had. Especially #55 Derrick Brooks.

People wanna say that Tony Dungy was the biggest reason why the Bucs won that Super Bowl but without Jon Gruden, the Bucs probably lose to Philly and certainly wouldn’t have defeated Oakland in the Super Bowl as easily as they did. Derek Ruff Without a doubt they do not win that Super Bowl in ‘02 if Dungy is still the coach. However Rich Mckay built the Bucs in the late 90s, not Dungy. And likewise Gruden didn’t destroy the team, Bruce Allen is to mostly blame for not finding replacements for guys like Sapp, Lynch and so on.

Watching these can be so sad tbh...a team can reach the highest peaks so quickly and then lose it all in the same amount of time. Hopefully the Brady-Gronk duo along with Coach Arians and the pro bowl receivers will provide some happy moments for Tampa in the 2020 season. The Bucs could definitely use them.

False! Let's do some fact checking: Dungy was was hired in 1996. Derrick Brooks, Warren Sapp and John Lynch was already on the team. Since reaching the NFC Championship in 1999, Tampa progressively got worse in 2000 and 2001.

@@jackcarraway4707 1993 the bucs were 5 and 11 1994 they were 6 and 10 and 1995 they were 7 and9. Sapp lynch brooks were all on the team but no playoff appearances. Dungy came there and built the team to a playoff team and was let go and gruden came into a playoff team that he guided to the Superbowl. But Gruden didn't build that team Dungy did. 2000 the bucs were 10 and 6 playoff appearance and 2001 9 and 7 and guess what playoff appearance. You make it sound like they went from 10 and 6 unto 5 and 11 and that wasn't the case. FYI those same players were on the team with gruden so he won with Dungy's team.
