Everyone remembers "taking my talents to South Beach," but the weeks leading up to The Decision had several twists and turns and rumors that really did make it hard to say where LeBron's first foray into free agency was going to wind up.

As a Heat fan I almost couldn't believe it was happening. I was hopeful Wade was staying and I was sure that Wade would stay if Miami could sign another big player. Somewhere in the back of my mind I knew Miami had space for a 3rd max free agent, but it wasn't until Wade and Bosh signed together, which already had me super thrilled, that I thought it was possible. The thing with Wade was I was super worried he was going to Chicago. I knew he wanted to play there. And it worked out. People try and say the big 3 was a failure, but four finals and two titles in four years is not a failure.

None of them signed Max deals. They all had to take under the max or it wouldn't have worked. In fact I remember a lot of talk centering around what the contracts would end up looking like, as there was VERY little space left to fill out the rest of the roster. And absolutely no one who knows anything calls that era of the Heat anything close to a failure.

No what blew our minds now is an all star is joining 6 allstars/former that are defending also the defending 2 time champions. If only kd was a bad attitude player and boogie not injured, boogie would have gotten a worse reception, since kd was touted a nice guy before bolting okc, which no one saw coming most were surprised by his decision to jump ship to another contender that beat him to get in the finals. Boogie meanwhile we all knew is still a nutcase despite his talents but got more sympathy because of the injury and some other lowball 2 yr offer, that makes sense but he said screw it.

Today, Donovan Mitchell just broke the Cavs (and Lebron James') record of most points in a single game by a player, in a historic win against the Chicago Bulls. 71 points. Seth, are you a time traveller?

I have a theory that LeBron James and the Cavaliers had an agreement that LeBron would leave to the Heat agreeing to return in a couple years so the Cavaliers could tank and get good lottery picks (example Kylie Irving and Andrew Wiggins which they used to get Kevin Love) so when LeBron returned he would have the team around him to win a championship that they couldn’t build through free agency and it worked. Very Smart move if true.

Lottery is rigged. You don’t win that many times a first pick even with the tanking. Heat tanked 15 win season and got the second pick?? -So Rose could go to Chicago. Just like LeBron went to Cavs. Just like Ewing went to Knicks. There could’ve been an agreement. The NBA chose LeBron, all eggs one basket, they willed him to Cavs and wanted him to win a chip there, sad part is that even after all that, they still had to rig the Finals to get LeBron to beat golden state and make good on that bs storyline.

LeBron really had a lot of great options on the table. Had he stayed in Cleveland, they may have found him a second co-star, like maybe Chris Bosh, plus coach Byron Scott running the show. Los Angeles and Chicago had great young players of their own. New York and New Jersey had the cap space. But Miami ultimately won out based on the most important thing - leadership. Specifically, leadership from the top. Arison and Riley were committed to treating their whole team well and supporting everyone. Contrast that to owners like crazy Dolan in New York, nutty racist Sterling in Los Angeles, scathing Gilbert in Cleveland, or the ambitious but clueless Prohorkov in New Jersey. Reinsdorf at least won six championships in Chicago, but he's had trouble finding competent management since Krause left. They also explained how Florida had no state income tax - meaning LeBron would save money and come ahead further than if he took Cleveland's max. But it was all underscored by Riley's seven championship rings - he showed them that they were all about winning. Sure, other teams had the talent - some perhaps even more than Miami. But none had the leadership to back it all up. That's the difference.

If Jordan and Riley met with LeBron, and was told to give up 23, and LeBron wears number 6 a season later in Miami, Jordan and Riley both knew LeBron was going to Miami from the previous year. Jordan played it off well in the off season of 2010 and that's what they are meant to do, dupe everyone. His best friend in Wade was the secret ingredient no one else had.

Cavs fan - it hurt when he left, and I was really surprised and upset, but understand now that it was probably the right decision. Was so sick of us losing to teams like Boston and San Antonio simply because they couldn’t get another star alongside Lebron. That 2016 ring was one of the best moments I’ve ever experienced, I would like Lebron to come back for one more run with our young squad now and possibly get one or two more. Even if he’s 39 averaging 20 that would still mean so much. He’s always going to be that kid from Akron.
