I would ad to this very well informed review that the 2 stage and variable stage systems that also include gas fired heating that is 92% or more FLUE will cost an arm and a leg when there is a repair needed. Parts are very expensive for those systems, circuit boards, sensors etc. are for some reason not so reliable these days and when just one service call is added to the "savings" and comfort levels of those higher end units, the efficiency benefits are lost likely for the life of them. I'm thinking that a single stage condensing unit mated with a 2 stage furnace might be the best combination as of 2024.
