Thank you lol I had to take the cover off my 70ft greenhouse last night as the wind nearly gave my greenhouse to the neighbors lol. Looking forward to working in the cold rain to put in posts. Thanks man this was exactly what I needed.

My portable greenhouse is smaller than yours. I've tried bricks, rocks, 10 litre water containers, and tent pegs to hold it down..... but mine still flies up and over the neighbours fence like a giant kite. Tomorrow I'm going to cut hardwood pieces ( 4x2s) to fit the base, screw it all together with copper saddles to hold it to the frame. I'm also attaching a 20cm border of plastic to bury under the mulch around the edges to stop the wind blowing up underneath and lifting it like a kite. Fingers crossed that this time it will work!

I have the same green house and another one a bit bigger. I use paracord on the outside of it anchored with stakes what I have used to stake out our dogs when we go traveling. Gives them a little more room to roam without running away in a strange area. They hold a pitbull and a great pyrenese with no problems. It goes down into the ground almost 18 inches I believe. You have to put it in before the ground freezes. I have pipe insulating foam over the paracord in a few places so it doesn't rub into the plastic to make holes. The screw in stakes I bought them in home depot. They screw into the ground like giant cork screws and the paracord I have connected to it. I have 8 of those in the ground. Then on the inside I have paracords tied to the bottom corners like a giant X. I have two 32 gallon black garbage cans that I filled with water to heat the greenhouse. The water heats up during the day and keeps the temps regulated at night. Having the weight of those 2 garbage cans keeps it stable as well, and extends my growing season longer. In the summer, they are removed and replaced with 4, 20 gallon grow bags with plants. The flaps on the outside bottom is covered with cardboard and cinder blocks on top of the cardboard so the flaps do not lift up. So far, it has worked great this way. you could use sand bags on top of the cinder blocks to give it some more weight as well, all around the greenhouse where ever the flaps are on the ground. What it comes with to secure the greenhouse is laughable. I did put the their U stakes over the ground pipes, but I bought deeper ones at home depot to help keep it in place. Overall, I am happy with the greenhouses. They have worked well. I can forsee getting a new plastic over it at some point if the plastic starts breaking down. Going into my 3rd year with this.

Thanks for the tips. I’m planning to move it when the ground defrosts next year and going to try some different ways to keep the plastic on.

My poly tunnel attempted to fly to Kansas last week, thankfully the trees caught it, sparing any damage to neighbours but now I need a new greenhouse and will use your suggestions to secure the new one. Thanks for sharing guys!

I used rebar stakes and ratchet straps for mine. We get big wind where we are at. Thx for the video.

Thanks for the tip man! Have some extra rebar that I’m not using.

I have a similar wall greenhouse( one side is taller than the other) i have this scare every winter as its in the wind path. I used hunting rope and tent anchors to pin it down. Was successful last season

I have two 15 x7x7 greenhouses. I put sandbags on each leg. Now, I going to secure the bottom of the plastic from blowing up. I saw someone using boards and rebar. Right now, I just have bags of soil holding the bottom of the plastic down in case of high winds. How did your plants do in the recent low temperatures? Thank you for sharing your gardening journey.

Hi Nahni, Thanks! This type of greenhouse is only good for extending my season a couple of months, which is nice because the NY growing season is short. If I wanted to grow year round I would need a heater and better insulated greenhouse.

@@LucasBuysFoodI bought a BigBuddy heater with a fan and the cord to run it instead of using batteries. We get down to 20°F in N. FL just about the time you need to have seedlings going because 1 month later it's hot outside! 😊 I figure to just keep it warm enough not to freeze for a couple of nights and I'll be good to go.

I got a 10x20x7 and bought some anchor stakes like you use for hurricanes. We got the frame put together. Haven't put the cover on yet.

That sounds good! Mine is a ShelterLogic of the same size. My auger stakes have yet failed and I have incorporated an end wall technique designed by a KZbinr "Mojo....." and I am quite confident in its strength. A 68mph front came through so far. No problem. As this world gets more screwy the more a reliable unit will be imperative to provide for yourself. Be safe.

@@evanspannknebel9492 We put end wall framing in with 1"x4" along the sides. Won't put doors in until the zippers play out. We had some pretty high winds this spring. It's still holding up very well. Put aside some nylon 110 or 120 TEK thread for luggage/shoemaking in case we have any repairs to make. If the screen degrades you can sew some fiberglass screen in.

@@SandcastleDreams Sounds like a plan. My end walls have a 2x10 flat on the ground with 2 2x6 kreg jointed.perpendicular to the bottom but parallel to the bottom (forming a T), The end wall is secured between the 2x6. 40 mph winds right now.

What brand is this greenhouse? We just purchased one and are hoping to get it secured. Was planning something similar to your set up and reinforcement. Likely some 2x4 frames in the chicken run half, and some bricks and things along the other side. Appreciate the video!

Twice in 2 weeks all my seedlings have been destroyed in this way. I'm not going to risk it, I'm saving up for a hard plastic one instead of these cheap glorified tents.

I don't mean to sound offensive but your greenhouse is on death row until the right wind comes along. I have had two similar units and both met killer winds of 40 and 71 mph and mine were far more secure than yours. Rocks/blocks are for comedians - they serve no purpose. I have used auger stakes ranging fom 8 to 30 inches. These are wonderful for holding the base of the frame. Anything else will be in the Wizrd of Oz tornado scenes. A portable greenhouse is a bad joke. What will $50 to $400 buy in a greenhouse? Anger and embaressment. I found you need at least $700 to buy a somewhat strong frame of 1 5/8 tubular steel at 10x20x8. And then you need another $700 to cover and secure the thing. Your video was a good warning but it doesn't go deep into reality. Good luck

Wow! Tell that to the nusery down the road ehere they've got 4 of the set up and we've gotten 60 mph wind gusts because of hurricanes just south of us! They've been up for 2 years now and still standing.

Live and learn. I like the ShelterLogic frame on the 10x20 model so, I stuck with it. I used 8 and 10 inch auger anchors on the center and corner posts using 3/8 nylon rope. The wind tries to make sails of any loose shell material. I took 110 pound para cord tied to my anchors and draped over the shell and snugged up tight. The greenhouse now regularly withstands 60 and 70 mph winds.@@SandcastleDreams

I think he was saying the money that you spend into trying to make a budget friendly greenhouse weatherproof, is the money ($700) you can put into a more heavy duty greenhouse that's built to withstand storms.
