The best part of Sunday morning is a new Sedgetool video. 100% agree. I have all these digital tools, some for 30 years. When I need them, they are essential. Thank you Sedge.

I have that same Stabila laser level. It's been a fantastic, works just as you describe. Good to bring it to the channel.

Thx Sedge for putting this list together. Glad to know that you too have gone to the dark side: metric. I find it’s so much less frustrating for cabinetry work especially, as well as general furniture design and construction. No more voodoo math trying to determine the size of 7 equal drawer fronts in a custom carcass. Thanks too for opening my eyes to how my jobs might benefit from a laser level.

I am with you on the metric system. It really streamlines things!

I subscribed. I had bought the PLS before and there were some quality control issues, it went back. I believe they changed manufacturers and once everyone jumped into the laser market they couldn’t compete. Hilti is another brand that I’ve used and it’s nice, but you pay for the name. That company caters more to large contractors doing infrastructure projects. They boast their warranty and I’ve had very long discussions with them regarding warranty etc.? Bosch is the Hyundai of digital measurement and laser levels. I think it’s a good bang for the buck. Lastly you need to be careful with the laser levels. If it falls, gets dropped, jarred, kicked etc without the laser being in the locked position it could throw it out of calibration. It’s a good idea to check calibration or have it tested every so often. One last thing the red lasers are cheaper compared to green, which is easier to see in the daylight.

I use Stabila levels exclusively for small projects because I trusted the manufacturer. When I wanted a LASER level for a kitchen upgrade, I bought the Huepar HP-903CG 3-axis level. To satisfy my curiosity of its accuracy, I checked it on a previous project where I installed five meters of surface mounted ducting for an electrical upgrade where I used my trusted Stabila. To my disappointment, the ducting was off by nearly 20mm over the five meter length and I thought the Huepar was going back to the vendor. After a bit more investigating, I discovered the Huepar was correct, and my Stabila was off. The hardware store where I bought the Stabilia replaced it at no cost, and the new Stabila confirms the Huepar accuracy.

I do love my laser level, it’s definitely worth investing in. Those digital calipers are great but keep a few spare batteries in your shop.

Yes! Batteries are a must

@@sedgetoolWell it depends on the quality of the calliper - I have had one cheap and one more expensive - Mitutoyo instruments have very, very low battery drain so batteries can last 3-4 years. Yes they are more expensive but they work day in day out. I think the Shaper Calliper is interesting with its blue tooth connectivity if you use cad or CNC

Calipers: For woodworking I find I prefer the analog dial type. Especially when I'm sneaking up on a thickness as the dial gives me a visual clue to just how close I am. But I have several of both as each have their use case.

PLS might not be around, but they got bought by Fluke snd still make lasers! Just got their 3x360 and its a tank! Glad to hear you're using lasers for cabinet installs. I was waffling between getting one or getting an 8ft level for my upcoming install. Decided the laser would be more flexible

Regarding laser levels, might as well get a triple plane laser. I am just a diy person but the Huepar brand on amazon has some pretty budget friendly options. Have all those planes is very handy at times and they can be off or on independently.

I have heard good things about that brand.

Sedge, ever tried the Mitutoyo brand? I don't think they have a fractional output but who needs that when there is a weird thing called the metric system that divides by 10.😂. Mitutoyo was the brand I used in my engineering co-op jobs for precise measuring.

Always use your plumb line at 90 degrees to the wall, if you shine it at angle to the wall and the wall is not plumb your line will NOT be plumb

For critical work (eg making multi-sided polygons), the digital angle finders aren't accurate enough AND the method shown is less accurate. Look at the specs for just about all the digital angle finders and you'll find them to be +/- 0.20º. Make a pentagon and you end up with a full 1º gap in one of the joints. Also, if you calibrate/zero-out using the base, then don't use a side on the blade. Use the same surface for reference and measurement (base or side).
@sedgetoolКүн бұрын
Thanks for pointing that out.

@@sedgetool You might want to check what you put in the show description. Except for the digital caliper, the links are for Amazon vendors.
