Hello Friends and Happy March!! March in the PNW is always an exciting month in the garden because it is when a lot of seeds are started (so many seeds) and we are getting closer to our last frost date. In this video, I talk about seeds to start indoors and also seeds to sow outside. Each garden is different- like sun exposure or microclimate so feel free to experiment a little. I know I am so excited to get my peppers started and to get more seeds into the ground. This year I am focusing more on direct sowing to see how that turns out. I will make sure to share garden tour videos, including seedlings, to share my progress.
As always, thank you for watching and Happy Gardening!!

I did that too when I started gardening. I had pumpkins growing down my rack and flowering in March. It was cool to watch, but the plants didn’t make it. I know now that the flowering was a last ditch effort from the plant to reproduce before it died of stress. Lol.

I just subscribed. I'm in northwest S. Carolina in zone 8a but with 8b or warmer micro-climates in protected areas of my yard that are fenced in and southern facing I love following channels in the same growing zone with growers who are obviously passionate and experienced in similar growing zones to mine. I love your updates of what can be done inside, under cover and outside. Last month we had most days in the 70s and 80s and all the plum and peach trees flowered during what some call our "fake spring" . Now we are waiting for the geoengineered/ manufactured deep freeze which usually comes AFTER our last frost date when temps drop from 78 degrees F to 25 degrees in 24 hours and the freeze last for 2 days to kill all the baby fruit.. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it doesn't get that cold or stay that cold for as long this year - or we miss it altogether which would be the first time in 4 years.

I have heard a lot about the weather out there warming up, then cooling down and causing problems with fruit trees. Last year we had a little something like that but it was very mild luckily.

Just wondering if you do recipes with some of the stuff that you grow. I struggle with what to make and what I can freeze to eat later. I don’t like wasting food. It is just me and my husband and he is a picky eater (very few veggies that he likes but I am safe to plant peas😊 I love the Great Pacific Northwest! I love hiking…Wallace Falls, ice caves, Mt Si , Pt. Defiance, Mt. Rainer - I also love gardening and checking out nurseries and painting just about anything and everything including wall murals. I had a greenhouse that my husband and I built ….we moved and I REALLY miss it. (We didn’t need permits as it was smaller but that gave us the idea to go much bigger also I’m 5’ nothing and my husband is 6’ something so he used to hit his head all the time on the hanging plants and I could walk underneath w/o a problem.😊 We decided to buy a kit 2 years ago that was delivered on pallets…still sitting on our basketball court. Due to the size being 3x larger we had to get our land surveyed and permits. Which have been time consuming and expensive. I am hoping to be able to build the greenhouse this year.. we are planning electrical and water. In the meantime I’ve been using my garage with supplemental lighting to overwinter plants. Which sounds insane because I really want to park my car in the garage to protect from the elements also ice scraping the windshield in ugly weather sucks. I don’t mind the rain and actually that’s the best time to pull weeds as their roots loosen up. Happy gardening ❤

I totally spaced and started everything this last weekend 😅😅 I'm behind schedule. As always. The squirrels absolutely destroy anything I plant that isn't well established so I can't direct sow. I tried a direct sow fall crop of carrots and beets and got a cover. Squirrels destroyed them. Transplanted carrots in May last year and they actually did pretty well.

I didn’t realize I needed to be thankful we don’t have squirrels but now I am. I thought they just messed with corn and sunflowers. A few years I had problems with mice but they were nice enough to leave the small seeds alone- my peas took 4 successions to grow though…. 😂

Deming WA starting a bougie homestead. 😊 We are having to wait on working the soil because we don't want a stuck tractor. So, I am going to start a learning garden and sow a lot outside. Any advice on rabbits?
@littlerootsranch
@littlerootsranch Жыл бұрын
Yay for a new homestead. Tractors are a problem with our wet springs. As for rabbits, I haven’t found a great way to deal with them. Fencing is best but it isn’t always economical or practical depending on size. I overwinter carrots and throw them to the perimeter in the spring so the rabbits can eat that and leave my garden alone. I find the rabbit pressure let’s up when the clover comes in. Also, if your area isn’t very clear, clear around your garden to make it a little scarier for them to wonder into the garden. I have heard male urine in the area (perimeter) works but I am in short supply of that, lol.

My plan was to start my peppers today (4th) but I ran out of daylight because I ended up moving my wood pile because I found out a friend is getting rid of their jacuzzi and giving it to me for free- yay!! That sentence was too long but I am dog tired so I am going to let it slide. 😂 I did make a batch of soil block mix in the wheelbarrow and I will press out 10 trays tomorrow and start my peppers. I was going to wait on tomatoes but I decided to go ahead and start them tomorrow too. I would have preferred to wait a couple weeks but I am finding myself so short on time so I am just going to start them and cross my fingers for a warmer spring/summer. I don’t sell tomato starts because everyone always wants them so big before we even have our last frost and I struggle to do that on scale. Next year I plan to have warming mats/tables where I can start them outside and I might dip my foot selling starts.
