We have to experience the feelings and emotions that kept us from the present moment and thus unconscious. The depression, anxiety, and anger were already within us, but never fully felt. Once fully felt (without associated thoughts), they never return, and we are closer to being Enlightened and at Peace!

I study psychology a bit, mostly through way of introspection but am also also a big fan of Mr. Jung's work. I have always had trouble putting some of the concepts in words. Over time I can begin, more clearly, explain the human psyche but you have a way of summarizing many of these concepts in a very relatable and concise manner. I just want to personally thank you for helping me define some of this a little better for both myself and for those I discuss these matters with. Also, I noticed your not getting the amount of views you deserve but your videos will definitely help many move toward a better life and a better world. We could use some more people like you to help the human race become more conscious, Thank You.

Wow. The bed of nails metaphor is really true. Lately I've been wondering why it seems like people seem to be fairly happy drifting through life while I'm suffering whenever I go forth in meditation or enlightenment inquiry. I also realized that whenever I seem to stop putting in awareness and mindfulness consistently for a few days, I return to a normal state of "numbness". Our society isn't really happy, but instead numbed. We don't like any extra perceptions it seems. Pain in essence seems to be just extra sensations without any bad meaning baked into them. That desire to be numb explains why we all live in such a similar state of human condition. As soon as you start putting in the work, the nails are pulled out from underneath you until 1 nail is left. The hard part is becoming an objective observer of reality. A camera doesn't judge the image it takes. Only an egoic perspective can judge reality. Excellent video, all deep, fresh, and real content!!!

Hey. Really appreciated this video. Your comments regarding emptiness resonated a lot with me. I've been recognising more and more how my day to day life is filled with this perpetual cycle of using anything to distract myself from that sense of emptiness. Realising that's the case hasn't so much caused a classic depression but rather being far less certain of what reality is and my place within it. Keep returning to this feeling of 'okay, so what now?' Thanks.

Thank you for the great video's, they are also helping me a lot. I love the nails and 1000 cuts analogy and I'm definitely experiencing that. Very funny how it works.

You start talking about what I feel are common Western misconceptions about enlightenment at 13:50 , can I say that I have those misconceptions too and it has caused me some depression and wrath when I get closer to the cause and effect of how my life became unproductive and unsuccessful. I also get an intense longing for the fairytale levels of spirituality that I sometimes reached in the past along with despair and a feeling of betrayal at not being able to get myself moving to seek those fairytale levels again in the past 20 years since I was diagnosed with Schizophrenia and forced onto mind numbing medication. I think that the concept of non-self is not literal, it is something to explore to let our awareness learn to explore what we take for granted. In exploring the possibilities of non-self awareness (not assuming that there is a pure truth of self or non-self) we can explore what the possibilities are without a self which is unusual for the id which is usually self needs focussed. We see that without pure focus on a self we must have purpose where previously we only had needs. I think that is the goal, to be more helpful to our place in the world, at least as useful at that than for our own needs. The confusion in the Western mind may be that we assume that inherent to the needs of the self are the needs of those we care for and we imagine and sometimes become negligent to things like hygiene and taking care of ourselves when we neglect our egos or self. In the West we are trained to associate taking care of ourselves with our self duty, not a task for being more helpfully community minded but a task for personal dignity. We are not used to being completely community and all life focussed in the West. In the East apart from spiritual people they are both selfish like non-spiritual people in the West and at the same time more community minded, so there are flaws in both parts of the World and of course this is a huge generalisation and it is not true anything like 100% of the time. In the West it is associated with madness to neglect the ego, whereas in the East they seem to have the support of the philosophy of shared community self, the self is not individuality but ones place and honour amongst the community. Our own needs can sometimes blind us to what good we can do. In Western Psychology the id is our own needs, the superego is the one who encourages virtuous deeds and holds us to a better value system of serving more than ourselves and the ego is the one who checks our own needs and the needs of others and decides which is more important at the time. There is a surface incompatibility between the two philosophies of East and West so Westerners adopting the Eastern Spiritual Tradition must be careful to also seek the same psychological supports that people seeking enlightenment receive in the East or a slight level of Madness may ensue in the seeking of enlightenment in the Eastern way by the Westerner. Of course there are some Western ways of seeking enlightenment but they may require Western style psychological supports too, otherwise one may be blown into the cosmic and neglect the everyday concerns of most people and one may forget the practical and useful parts of philosophy for everyday life like chores and the useful parts of smalltalk in favour of the cosmic and bigger picture concepts. That too can be damaging to the ecosystem of society, it all must be integrated into the wider community and everyone supported enough to grow spiritually, productively, sustainably and virtuously.

Hi, thanks for sharing this video. I just thought i'd make a couple of comments. I recently achieved enlightenment and i also suffer from depression and anxiety. I want you to know that it's possible to be enlightened and also mentally ill. I take meds for my mental health and this has not stopped me being enlightened. It sounds like you have had a lot of success in your life and i believe this makes achieving enlightenment harder for you. I became enlightened after a number of failures and the failures led me to be so desperate to get there and shed all my attachments. You speak a lot comparing yourself to others. This shows you are still identifying with the small "me" or "I". I suggest practising or even pretending as you go about your life that you are everyone you come across. Practice changing your thinking into a place where you operate from the perspective of being one with everyone and everything. This is how i broke through. Best of luck!!

Focusing so hard on learning the truth must drain a lot of focus away from the part of us that sees beauty in life. I find it helps to integrate that part into yourself more fully to the point where you can decide to let yourself have happiness, to love yourself enough to decide to perceive life as worth living. I know it sounds absurd, but it really can be that easy when you are that unified. I'm still working on getting there on a more consistent basis myself. But I do believe there's an infinite wellspring of motivation in our minds that we can access if we know how to, and through enlightenment we can do so empirically and free of ego.
@TheDiamondNet8 жыл бұрын
This is really one thing that I need to work on. I'm not really good at deciding to be happy since my experiences, because I'm afraid that I'll be lying to myself and contributing to ego. But I know that there's a deep agenda there, where I'm deceiving myself into believing that I can't be happy. But I haven't been able to let it go yet, because I think that it serves me. This is really my first time thinking about this consciously. So, this is good. Great points.
@Chrome1668 жыл бұрын
That sounds very similar to what I go through. I think it helps to think of happiness not as a question, but an answer. (Thinking that way stops the wheels from turning too much, anyway.) I think it's important to know what makes you happy, but feeling fully involved in life requires that you wish for it, and that wish doesn't have to have any prerequisites.

I used to seek enlightenment but now I'm content to be authentic with myself and others. Though this seems easy enough it often results in estrangement from groups and even loved ones. But this process can not be rushed, or else we just create a modified sense of self, and that keeps us on the wheel. Better to drink daily the clear water from the well at our center. There's no reason to kick against the goads. Both joy and suffering are temporal experiences inherent with life in a body. They are meant to be experienced, just not all the time.

I've been seeking for a few years and it just seems as if life gets more difficult. it seems the more I strip away the discomfort I experience. Its like I need the old me to navigate through this world, the new me isn't as fun, happy, witty, motivated etc... and that's what people expect, so when I play this person I feel so inauthentic, but I like people thinking positive of me still (ego)! lol Like you I'm holding on to those few times I experienced of peace and spaciousness in the hope it happens one day. it feels like I've awaken to the movie and that I can see through everyone thought processes. I psycoanalyse everyone, and my mind constantly making judgements about how egoic everyone is....of course this my mind/ego making these claims. I've been listening to a guy called Paul Hedderman - he has really helped me in recently get out of a whole! I agree, getting rid of the shadow can be painful, but I think beyond suffering, there is anguish, after we are enlightened and filled with light, once we realize that we can produce light. That is the meaning, to understand light so well that we can produce it, and add to the collective existence more light. the whole process of enlightening ourselves and emptying ourselves is to prepare ourselves to be filled. we dig the well the will spring up living water. We don't have to give up meaning, just give up our idea of meaning, and expand our mind and heart enough to fit in the true meaning.

I can also relate to you. My neighbor Vic has spewed some outlandish lies that are extremely transparent. I mean wow 😮! Anyway, I sometimes want to call him out so desperately. However, I have not, for fear he might not own up to his constant fibbing. He also has a very competitive mindset without any provocation. It leads me to believe the two issues are linked. I read that the best way to deal with this issue is to not confront the person, but instead ask “ Why is this particular incident so important to you?” This way you can gain insight into their motives all while disarming them...

once again,great video! I've had the same concerns about Enlightenment "what if I'm already Enlightened?What if it's not waht's it cracked out to be?that would suck!"lol I've gotten those urges to get up too...a common theme that comes up in my meditation is the fear that the timer won't go off or the phone turned off lol...I get urges to check the time.I had a sort of epiphany today during my session today.I saw that I could cease mind activity through keeping the eyes perfectly still.Like,keep them fixated at a point,it's almost impossible to think when they're perfectly still.Try it out! That sounds like an interesting movie...I'll go check it out!
@TheDiamondNet8 жыл бұрын
Definitely check out the Labyrinth! It's a classic. Plus, you can never go wrong with Bowie. :) Also, I'll give the eye thing a try. I've noticed that my eyes tend to jump whenever I think certain words... but not others. Like I was sitting there observing my thoughts (not formally sitting for meditation but just playing around) and I kept saying single words internally. One of those words would make my eyeballs look up, despite the fact that my eyes were closed. It was only that word though. Other internal dialogue didn't cause it. I forget what the word was now, but it was really neutral like "later" or something like that. It wasn't a verb. So, it's interesting how body and mind are related.

Not necessarily. You get stuck and depressed ONLY if you follow guides or other human beings. But using yourself exclusively as THE RULE, is something, I myself can't put into common words and notions.
@TheDiamondNet7 жыл бұрын
That's true. If a person uses their emotions as a guide, and can recognize genuine inspiration and resonance with teachings, then there is no way to get lost. The issue here is that many people haven't yet developed this awareness and skill of discernment. Or they are not aware of old beliefs that clash with new teachings, causing a lot of confusion and distress. I fall into these traps from time to time. So, while you are correct, resistance can crop up in unexpected places.

@thelastofyou98008 жыл бұрын
hey, nice vid. I too feel that spirituality made me more depressed and overall scares me that my views and beliefs are falling, the most important being that I definitely (still) believe in meaning and my best memories are of ideas or people that I find as meaningful. I'm a screenwriter and I only write about stuff that has meaning to me, I look for answers to what my purpose is etc, and they're all based on the condition for meaning to exist.I can't yet grasp the idea of "emptiness" or the idea of "oneness", when, for example, I get bitter when seeing others happily in love and I'm single (if we're all one, why wouldn't that make me happy too?). I understand that's my ego, and I watched you talk about it in other videos, which brings me to my question. You end your videos with "keep becoming more you". Which "you" are you referring to? Sounds like you encourage people to identify with their ego more with that saying, while the advice in the video and in spirituality in general is to transcend it and see beyond it. Just a curiosity of what you mean by that :)

Hey! I wanted to let you know that I won't be posting my video tomorrow. I was anticipating a hurricane today, that ended up coming rather unceremoniously. I live in Florida. But I didn't film as I planned. So, I'll probably be posting Sunday or Monday instead.

I'm having a hard time coming to grips with this. Why participate in society if I can't truly have a positive impact on it? Could you please explain this further? Thank you

hi. thank you for great videos. I have a question .. how do we teach this type of wisdom which school or society don't teach our kids?? how do you guide your child for it? thank you!
@TheDiamondNet8 жыл бұрын
Well, when it comes to enlightenment, I don't recommend directly encouraging your child to seek it. There can be many negative traps of seeking enlightenment that can leave a full-grown adult depressed and confused and in resistance to living. I would instead recommend developing basic mindfulness practices for children. Like, teaching them that emotions are normal and valid, and then helping kids be aware of their emotions by giving them guided body scan meditations. So, if they feel happy, since happiness arises first in the physical body, you direct their attention to different areas. Like do you feel butterflies in your stomach? Is there an open feeling in your chest? You can also help them deal with sadness, anger, fear, and others with this method. This will help them become more aware without dealing with the potential existential crises that can come up from enlightenment seeking. Also, five minutes of meditation a day can really help a child out in the long run.

Sorry!! Another question.. You can prevent from going through existential crises..???
@TheDiamondNet8 жыл бұрын
You can't prevent coming to the realizations that lead to an existential crisis. But you can avoid the 'crisis' part of an existential crisis by developing equanimity, acceptance, and awareness relative to your newfound insights. So, for example, if you have the insight that 'significance isn't real', many people fall into the trap of thinking 'since significance isn't real, I'm insignificant and life is not worth living.' But this reflects a poor understanding of the insight. So, deepening your awareness and understanding is key to getting through existential crises.

Hi Emerald, I get what you mean by saying what we put value on, or deem worthy/unworthy are not real (In the grand scheme of things). They are measuring tools, and are not real. Agreed... however, I feel a person needs these tools for practicality and motivation. To attain goals, achievements, and for basic survival. Otherwise we could not function as socially productive creatures. Now, these “standards” we establish into our ego are for the most part society based ideals. Do you agree? Btw do certain ppl have trouble understanding and grasping these concepts?
@TheDiamondNet6 жыл бұрын
I would mostly agree with what you say. There are practical truths and existential truths. It is a practical truth that certain conditions and needs must be met in order to function well as an individual in life. For these, we need to be able to create ideas of meaning, value, worthiness/unworthiness, and the like so that we know what we should pursue and what we should not pursue. These are the measuring tools of the human lens to give us guidance in practical decision making. However, there is no vestige of meaning/value/worth/etc. outside of the realm of the human intellect which (in and of itself) is just a tool. And though these ideas of meaning/value/worth will often overlap with others within the same society (or sometimes in humanity as a whole species), they are very subjective and wholly based upon the pre-conceived notions of the individual who generates the ideas. So, overall, these are very practical and necessary tools indeed. However, a person can function and be motivated without the ego, as long as they can still see that certain ideas and constructs are necessary to maintain order in everyday life... even these constructs are illusory and reality itself is illusory. This is one of the reasons why monks have many chores, rituals, and routines that they engage in. As the saying goes, "Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water."

The Diamond Net Thank you so much. I just need some “sealant” over my concrete! As for the latter question in my post... You forgot to answer??? Lol
@TheDiamondNet6 жыл бұрын
Oops! I did forget about that one. Most people without the seeking bone, have trouble understanding these ideas because they're paradoxical. And most people aren't aware that it's possible to hold two seemingly contradictory truths at one time and them both still be valid. They are used to being able to definitively draw blacks and whites about any given topic, since most things function that way. So, in order for someone to understand these types of ideas, they have to be able to understand that there are many different facets to truth and that some of those facets are paradoxical but valid on different levels. They also have to be able to emotionally stomach the cognitive dissonance necessary to hold two contradictory truths at once. On top of that, they also must have the discernment to be able to distinguish paradoxical truths from pure non-sense that contradicts simply because it's non-sense. So, being able to understand these types of truths is predicated upon letting go of many non-truths and having a worldview that breaths enough to support deep open-ended inquiry of complex topics. It takes quite a bit of contemplation and insight discovery to get to the point where these understandings make sense and even seem worthwhile to entertain. So, a person usually has to do a lot of inner work to resonate with these truths in the first place. On the other hand, I do believe that most people are capable of grasping these understandings if they seek in earnest.

The Diamond Net Thank you again... You gurl are awesome! Such insight & Intellect... It’s funny, I been checking my shadow for as long as I can remember. I just did not know this was part of psychology as a teen and young adult. My mother was at the helm of it all. From as early as age 9 or 10 she stressed the virtue of being prudent, polite, and humble. Literally drilled it into me. Now, my biggest hang ups are ppl who seemingly do not have “manners”. It really annoys me to no end. Mostly with ppl who don’t thank me for opening a door, or men that do not give me a firm handshake, and can’t look me in the eye. I however have gotten past it, and pretty much accepted that it may not be their fault. They may have been brought up in a culture that did not embrace etiquette. Who knows? The eye contact may come from lack of self esteem. I’ve tried throughout my life to understand rather than judge. Anyway, I have mother to thank for planting the seeds of consciousness... Good old mum. Thank you again Emerald.

Enlightenment is. Seems the word in its self is a trap with whatever word association we have with it or perceive it to be. Your an amazing integral thinker, and have loads of levels. It might be true the analytical mind is the last bridge to consciousness or whatever consciousness is to you. Have you found the place where you have become the watcher yet? A separation or view point where your observing what your thinking, doing from a place of none identity in the day. Alan watts talks about it then he talks about it. If you can watch the self what is actually watching the self and can we go further by watching the watcher observing the self 🤪. Nice to see your feminine shining though on the video. Seemed in most of your videos you move from a strong male aspect but your feminine here ✌️
