Sega Genesis Pad Hack Arcade Stick // ARCADE STICK MODS

Want to play games like Contra Hard Corps, Gunstar Heroes and Thunderforce with an arcade stick? Why not make a dedicated Sega Genesis arcade stick! We’re going to use a pad hack technique. There are a variety Sega Genesis pads you can use so try and find one that is worn out, low quality, or defective. You can also still buy cheap ones on amazon. Have fun!

Instead of grinding off the end off the end of the joystick shaft, I simply dremel a clearance hole for the shat end in the bottom plate of the body. this way you can easily swap tops without opening the case and you don"t destroy the screwdriver slot.

One thing I would do differently is, depending on your console's region, use an appropriately colored Start button. Blue for Japanese, red for European and gray for European Model 1 or American. Just like they are on the original controllers.

Nice to see the LS-62 get some love! I like using it for Monroe or Nintendo-cabinet feeling small sticks. Hope your studio/office repairs are going ok, too. The last 15 seconds were pretty funny too. The mod is done, but ugh... Ok, lets widen the start hole, put in a new button, scrape off the panel, laser etch Sega, coat it in platinum, add a garnish of embroidered sapphires, bye everybody! 😂 😁

Great job on the mod, cleaning up the top plate with the laser etching really pushed it over the top! I did a video of a mod on the same stick on my channel, but retaining Sega Saturn functionality while adding Genesis. I didn't replace the components like you did, which now that I've used so many higher quality sticks I kind of want to. But it is also cool from an historical perspective to keep it stock, as it doesn't feel THAT bad lol. The Stick is actually called the "Hori VF" for Virtua Fighter. They also made a later variant called the "Hori VF Dash" which has 4 buttons.

Three buttons are a choice for all the arcade shmups, bmups, and platformers. But since it's using a Genesis plug post-modded, it'll be limited to Genesis games...

Do you know that your joystick hack with a modded Genesis 6 button or 3 button PCB is useful for an Edladdin Seagull 78 and a RetroGameBoyz Gen2A52, for Atari 7800 and 5200 gameplay, even though you can't use a modern joystick connected to a Brook Genesis adapter and then connecting that to a Seagull or a RetroGB 52?

Nice mod. Though it was concerning about the lever. Would the pliers method for tightening the ball top work if you use the shaft cover?

You can take off the micro-switch Pcb with the spring and the actuator, now you have room to tighten the ball top from the bottom of the shaft using the pliers.

@@ScanlineCity - I have been using a 8 button curved layout similar to this MegaDrive Stick featured. - I have programmed the top 5 so that my 5 fingers dont have to move - and its a revelation. - Even in Street fighter, I dont use weak kick much, - its there if I want to stretch, but I dont think I could go back now to a straight layout. Its such an adaptable design, I have a new found appreciation for the Neo Geo now. - I hope we see similar hight quality cases with an 8 button curved layout.

Not possible to fit a new joystick in there without modifying the case. Not enough room
