Sega’s Mega Drive Mini 2 is lame, but here are 50 games that MUST be on a Genesis Mini 2

Recently SEGA of Japan announced the pending release of the Mega Drive Mini 2, their latest mini console that has turned a lot of heads for no other reason than the fact that we’ve already had a Mega Drive Mini, and no one really wanted a second one. Most people would have rather had a Dreamcast Mini, or a Saturn Mini, but we were pulling hard for, and even making bold predictions about a Master System Mini….but alas, our dreams have been cast out.
Making matters worse is the fact that no North American version is, as of writing this, in sight…. and the games being selected for this latest entry are even more head scratching than the first. It’s plain to me that Yosuke Okunari seems to have a big infatuation with puzzle games, to a degree that’s a little baffling.
Anyway, we’re not waiting around for any more announcements. Here are the 50 games that we at Creative Cat Productions DEMAND for the Genesis Mini 2. Anything less would just be, well, a MEGA disappointment.

Sorry you feel that way. With the 20 cd games that will be included and the Genesis deep library I look forward to seeing what else they pick. I’m also encouraged this doesn’t seem like their last project and we may still get some of the others. It would be a while so maybe the Evercade will get some more good arcade cartridges and persuade me to finally pick up a VS.

I thought SEGA said they were doing 10 SEGA CD games? I may have missed that. It will be fun to see what else SEGA picks for this, they have definitely made interesting and thoughtful choices. However, I’m not terribly invested because scarcity has already been a major issue and I’ve heard some rumblings that some of these Japanese stores don’t offer shipping to the US or that shipping is going to be prohibitively expensive. eBay posts are already popping up all over the place, made by people who have secured pre-orders, and they’re setting their prices for over $200. To me, this is a neat product and stuff but definitely not something I would ever spend more than a $100 for. Have you seen the Jaleco, Toaplan, and Irem collections coming for the Evercade? They are real game changer as far as Im concerned. All 3 look amazing, especially the Irem collection, which comes with Mr Heli and R-Type. I want to do a video about how it’s changed my perspective a bit….to me they’ve officially crossed over. If there are no quality issues with the cartridges then I’d highly recommend the VS. But we’ll see how they handle the actual release of these. People are pretty pumped though. Thanks for watching dude! 😎

@@creativecatproductions I agree it seems like Sega is intentionally trying to produce too little to get the NES Classic effect and I'm not playing that game either. I'm keeping my fingers crossed we'll get a US Genesis release but am not holding my breathe for any of that. But I am interested and will keep my eyes on this. So I pulled out my Pandora Arcade Console today just because I wanted to check out some of the games on those new arcade carts. The Pandora is pretty cool but many of the games are stretched and doesn't have any real features or options (at least mine) so I've been considering the Evercade again as a pseudo replacement (assuming no quality issues with the new carts like you said). There are some cool games (In the Hunt jumps to the top of my list) but I'm still kinda bummed at the expense of each cartridge. It's not even real hardware and the Irem cart only has 6 games, 3 of which I care about. Is that worth $20? (assuming you get them at retail) I know $20 isn't a real lot of money but each time you want a cart? Before you know it you've dropped over $200 bucks and could have bought a Switch Lite (or even Switch with a couple more carts) and Nintendo online. I'd feel a whole lot better if the cartridges that don't even offer at least 10 games were more like $10 to 15. Maybe I'm just being cheap. As far as Master System games I'm interested in playing, I would pick Master of Darkness (Sega's answer to Castlevania). As far as games already announced: Popful Mail, Silpheed, Thunder Force 4, and Mansion of Lost Souls have gotten my interest. It is also cool that Sonic CD is included on it (I've had the game for PC).

I'm a sucker for these mini systems. Availability is key, though. I'm still feeling burned from the TG16 mini. I want to give 2019 Sega major credit, though... they made their first Genesis Mini so easy to find at stores and purchase! For that reason alone, it is my favorite mini system. In a way, I hope this new one stays in Japan, so I don't have to track one down using some sleazy website.

I wish Sega would look at their extra supply of minis in stores as a success. I know that's counter-productive in business, but I HATED Nintendo and Konami for underproducing their minis, allowing terrible scalpers to buy up the limited quantities. I’m not sure about Sega Sammy. As you point out, they seem to have recovered somewhat after a terrible time during Covid, but their videogames division still seems to be struggling. They are such a big company with their hand in so many different ventures it’s hard to talk about it as a whole. I think they absolutely need Sonic Frontiers to be a major critical and commercial success though. They seem to be focusing all of their efforts to that end. If it doesn’t happen, then I expect that they may attempt to divest themselves of the Sega brand name….I’m guessing they will sell it off. Thank you very much watching our videos dude! I feel your pain I'd love to have had an MS mini but this was my 2nd best guess personally. (You said 10 Sega CD games it's 20) Okunari didn't go back on his word, this is also focused on the international gamng market outside of japan, we will get a western release he mentioned this in famitsu magazine that he wouldn't be able to put as many of these out for the western release so for those of us who want one should get one on launch. I believe in July 14thwe will get an announcement on the western launch. I have pre-ordered a MD Mini 2 from amazon, more will come back in we have ages till an October launch. I also pre-ordered the CD aesthetic add on and the Cyber stick because I wanna play After Burner II like Maverick from Top Gun. 32X games won't be on the system. I listened to the original announcement and Okunari said that M2 could not do 32x on the existing board so Mega Drive and Mega CD, which is understand as the 32X hardware is more in line with Saturn then Mega Drive. Alright so here is my commentary on your suggestions. I think we can gaurentee that a Lunar game will be on the system since Sega worked with Game Arts to get Alysia Dragoon on the original MD mini. Popful Mail has already been announced on the Jap MD mini so we should get it too hopefully. I'd love to see Snatcher and if it was on this mini I'd agree it would make this essential. Sonic CD was also originally announced on the system so we should get this too as it'a gotta be a staple for a western release. I think Capcom will show us love with Final Fight CD too and I hope we get this on the system. Again Shining Force CD was announced for the Jap version so we may also get it for the western release. Night trap would be interesting as it was contrversial at the time however if I am being honest I would not miss it as I was not too much a fan of FMV games for the system. Robo Aleste is a solid shooter so I am for this suggestion as I am with Keio Flying Squadron. Silpheed has been announced for the system and I think we should also get this as a western release too. Your 32x selections are cool but won't be on the system, however if Sega did an add on Sega 32X mini with 5 games and they were the ones you chose to be on it, I'd get one. I agree with you Sonic 3 should be on the system I can imagine them porting the new Sonic Origins game on it due to the whole MJ soundtrack thing but regardless it should be on it. Mortal Kombat should be on this (Funny fact the original MD mini had MK II on it but they didn't have the licence for it along with Aladdin so they didn't make the games live) I love Streets of Rage but have a feeling they'll add Streets of Rage 3 instead. The new port of Fantasy Zone is interesting and would be good to play be cool to see the new features. Revenge of Shinobi exists on my Asia Region Mega Drive Mini so I have a feeling it won't be on this and Shadow Dancer will be especially since we got the arcade version of this game on the Astro City Mini. Herzog Zwei may make it on the system it's a good shout but I think Sega may leave it out because of how complex it is. Thunder Force IV is coming out on the Jap version as you know so I am sure it will make it on a western release. Musha was on the Asia Region MD mini so I doubt they'll release it on the MD Mini II. Quackshot is a game i'd love for them to put on this sytem it's an awesome unique game and I game I love dearly if their is a Disney License they should pay for it would be for this game. I was shocked Ristar wasn't on the original MD Mini, it would be a crime if this was not added. Columns was on the original Sega MD Mini we don't need it again thank you as we already have columns III for the MD Mini II. I'd love Hyperstone Hiest however I dunno if Sega would pay for the TMNT Licence but i'd love to see it. Bio Hazard Battle is a good game but meh I dunno if we'll see it as much as I can appreciate it for what it is. Crusader of Centy/ Soliel should be on the system agreed a very good top down adventure game and is unique to the library. Shining in the Darkness would be cool but I doubt it will be on it due to the primitive nature of the gameplay. Shining Force II was actually on the Asian MD Mini so I doubt they'd place shining force 2 on the system. Twinkle Tale would be nice it's an awesome game and agreed it's cooler than pocky and rocky however it will probs remain on the Jap MD mini. Outrun is on the Jap version of the MD Mini II I am sure they'll give us this on the western release. Sword of Vermillion was on the Asian region MD Mini so I doubt it would make it to the MD Mini II roster. Pulseman would be cool but would probs remain on the jap MD mini. Super Hang on for me is the best racing game and I would love this game on the roster. Phantasy Star II has a lot of grinding but I can see why you'd want it. Phantasy Star III is meh, but I get why you think it would be a shoe in if you are gonna have PSII. I doubt the baseball game will make it but we shall see. Ranger X is a big game but for some reason I doubt we'll get it. Splatter House 2 I think we'll get as the MD Mini II in Japan are gonna get it. Trouble shooter could happen but will probs remain in Japan. If Rocket Knight Adventures is not on this system something is very wrong. Truxton is great but a little dated as a game so I doubt it will make it. Gaires would be interesting but it never had a pal release so would be interesting to see what happens with this title. Golden Axe II may happen as it would be easy for Sega to put it in. Elemental Master is another interesting title as we never had this in Europe. Mercs would be cool, I think they could certainly have this. As for Desert Strike, I loved this game, it's a proper daddy game although I have a feeling they may go ahead with Jungle Strike or Urban Strike instead but either of them I would not mind. As for your 10 MS pics I can't fault you on them, but I doubt they'll be on the system, would rather have them specifcially on a future MS mini.

I suspect one of two things…. And honestly, Im only joking about Yosuke Okunari being a “liar”….and I know its not ultimately up to him. When I first posted a video about the Master System Mini being the next one, Mr Okunari responded on Twitter and said the next project was for the game Lost Judgement…..I think he meant to say that the virtual Master System in the game Lost Judgement was, maybe, the thing he was talking about in that Famitsu interview when he described what I took to be a Master System….especially when he said it would be oriented ‘internationally’. If that’s the case then this Mega Drive Mini 2 is just the next project after the one he originally mentioned. The other possibility, of course, is that SEGA simply changed their mind. Did they really say there would be 20 SEGA CD games? Im sorry I missed that! Im worried about that though insofar as I don’t think that there are actually 20 SEGA CD games in existence that are really all that great to play. The SEGA CD wasn’t great. Im not confident that there is going to be a western release. I think it’s contingent on a lot of factors, but its clear that SEGA is not putting forth the same marketing effort for this product. If it’s a thing I have to worry about, or plan to get by hovering over my computer, waiting for the exact moment to digitally compete with all the scalpers that want to take the entire stock at 2 in the morning on a Tuesday, then Im not interested. I guess that’s how things went with the TG16 Mini? But I honestly had no idea that was the case. @@creativecatproductions No no, those were the games you demanded not we. I have my own list in mind, however we have a lot in common. Looking forward to July 14th and see what the next announcement will be. I'm confident that we should have a western release, we have yet to see how they promote it for the west so I have no desire to pre judge at this point in time. I understand that the T16 was amazon exclusive which sucked even for us in the UK (However the Core Grafx mini is still available) That being said I don't believe that you'd have to compete with scalpers as amazon won't be the only avenue to purchase this MD Mini II. The Sega CD had 205 games in total so about 20 of them have to be somewhat half decent I've played through entire library and I've seen online some top 25 and top 30 lists of games that are worthwhile such as Road Avenger and Dark Wizard etc. However I'd agree it did have a lot of shovelware in the form of FMV games which I wasn't too happy about. I honestly believe Sega simply changed their mind and this was my 2nd prediction. If not an MS mini it would be an MD Mini 2 as I felt Sega still had more to shout about concerning their 16bit wonder, it is their most successful machine worldwide. I'd have personally loved them to put 32X games on this however I understand why M2 said no due to the limitations of the board they are using and the 32X sharing more DNA with the Saturn Hardware than the Mega Drive. I would not mind them making a 32X mini add on that functions but I doubt it will happen due to the costs of the board and it not being worthwhile due to the limited software the platform had. However perhaps during the anniversary of the MS (2025-2026) they'll plan an MS mini release. Who knows. I had a feeling Sega were gonna launch a new mini this year the give away was that they moved the launch date of the Astro City Mini V forward a month so it would not cannibalise the sales for a future Sega mini system which wasn't the MS mini as I thought but an MD mini II. Happy to comment on your vids always a joy when you cover Sega Content and Retro gaming stuff including mini consoles.

Wow, didn’t expect a face reveal. The video brings up something I find interesting, specifically how specific versions of games seem to be given priority over the other ones. For games like Final Fight, only the arcade version tends to get re-released nowadays and it’s possible Sega chose not to include Sonic CD or 3 because the Origins collection has already been released for multiple systems. And licensed games or games which have licensed content in them (like real world cars and songs)? Generally, don’t count on them ever getting a re-release. It may be true that there is generally one version that’s objectively better than the other ones, but even they and forgotten games deserve preservation.

The only reason I don’t show my face more often is that I lack good lighting and I live with 4 kids so audio recording can get a little hairy. I think sonic CD is going to be on the Japanese version of the mega drive mini so there’s hope that they maybe they’ll include sonic 3 too? Maybe. The truth is that I’m almost certain I’m not getting this one. Not unless it’s at least half of the games I describe here. But even then, availability is a huge issue this time around! Even that new flight stick they announced for after burner 2….completely gone, and the eBay listings are starting to pile up. Now 60 games officially listed. Just got done moddin/loadin pix on my original and SNES minis a couple months back and at $130 after shipping/tax am thinking about passing this time around. There really are a lot of good games on this version. Seems like a lot of folks are pissed that Lunar/Snatcher were omitted while Sewer Shark and Night trap are there. Perhaps I’ll get one to keep in a box :-0 Honestly wish they had done an SMS or Saturn but I guess since they didn’t do well in CONUS, ain’t happenen :-( never know and am still amazed TG-16 mini exists now just need to find a way to mod that bad boy (PS and Neo Geo are next on my list)!

Indeed! I actually think the final list is pretty good, though it’s a major bummer not to have those working designs games or snatcher. I think sewer shark and night trap both suck , but they are also great choices because they were both top selling Sega CD games in the US. They’re pretty cool as a piece of history. But $130? Is this a list for a hypothetical North American version? Because some of these are already announced. "Snatcher" seems likely as a NA/EU exclusive as it's the only official English version of the game and I don't think the Sega CD version was ever released in Japan. Also I believe M2 said it's too difficult to emulate 32X games so they're not putting any on the Mega Drive Mini 2.

This is indeed a hypothetical list of games that I think NEED to be on a North American version….and Genesis Mini 2 if you will. I wasn’t aware that Snatcher was a US exclusive, obviously its based on the PC Engine CD and Japanese PC versions, which are entirely in Japanese….but I had no idea SEGA didn’t do a native version of Snatcher for Japan. The SEGA CD hardware was definitely in Japan though. The version of Shining Force CD they showed for the presentation was the Japanese version. I’ve never heard that it was hard to emulate 32X games, but perhaps it is. I think SEGA has a pretty negative perception of the 32X though and I think mainly they don’t want to have anything to do with it because many people blame it for the failure of the Saturn and therefore the entire company in the late 90s and early 2000s. North American Sega Genesis Mini 2 confirmed. They wont include 32X games. They mentioned in the interview that the new CPU by Zullik for the mini console will now run Sega CD/Mega CD games but not 32X or Saturn games. In the future, if the new powerful CPU is produced, then maybe Sega Saturn Mini. For the Genesis/Mega Drive games, Genesis Mini 2 received Teen rating from ESRB, so there won’t be any Mortal Kombat or Eternal Champions Sega CD version.

@@creativecatproductions Hey I agree with you. Personaly I just hacked my Asian Mega Drive mini with a 64gb Sandisk Fit. This lets me fit the entire US library of GG, SMS, SMD, SCD and 32X. If a Mega Drive 2 mini PAL comes out, I might just replace the one i have. I like push power buttons better than slide on these minis. But I also want bouth power and reset to be blue rather than red to match he blue button on the 6 buttons controllers. That and hopefully 8bitdo will finaly do a wireless kit for these controllers.

A lot of what you said I agree. However I would put more genesis and cd games that didn't get a re-release on current consoles. As for Master system games I believe they should make a mini for it that includes a working phaser gun. As for 32x games I could pass on it. I remember getting it and totally regret it afterwards. The only game I really liked was mk2. I would like to see more cd games like terminator, vay, rise of the dragon mortal, kombat (for the CD not genesis), road blasters, sewer shark, time gal and others I can't remember.

I was totally burned by the 32X as well! One game I forgot that I kind of liked was shadow squadron, but it’s telling that I forgot it because it’s not terribly memorable inspite of being quite well made. The 32X was such a waste of money though. A light gun for the master system would be awesome. It really had a lot of good light gun games. Thank you very much for watching dude! 😎

@@creativecatproductions - they already mentioned we weren’t getting 32X games, which does suck. You also mentioned that Sega Flight stick being sold out again. I’m not surprised and I would have loved one. I thought about it but I can’t justify almost $200 plus shipping for something I’d use on one game essentially. @@creativecatproductions - absolutely. I always watch your videos(and like and subscribe ;) ) that’s really cool that you spoke with him. They could have even buried some in this release and sold the master system attachment that would be used as a key (jumper) that when inserted, it would unlock them). That would be very creative. Edit: I have the Japanese version preordered from Japan but I Didn’t bother with paying another $50 to get a decorative CD player for it. Yes, it’s neat, but totally useless. ;)

Okay I’m really starting to doubt what we’ll get. Only available through Amazon and will be 25 bucks shipping as all units are coming from Japan so about 130 to buy AND they’re talking about 1/10 the availability of the Mini 1??? It’s going to take some excellent picks over the last 30 games to convince me to work hard to get this but they seem to be really picking carefully for the Japanese lineup while the US version is getting loaded with Outrunners and Hang On. Combine all of this with the new cool arcade cartridges and indie games that are coming to Evercade and I think I might have to say screw you Sega and join the Evercade family.

I bought a super console x for $100 and it has every super nintendo, Nintendo and sega games, plus thousands of other games from dreamcast, n64, the playstation and a bunch of arcade games. I don't know why anyone would waste money on this.

I think it’s for die hard Sega fans and collectors that want something official from the brand (such as myself, if I’m being honest). The truth is you don’t need a Chinese knock off console for $100 either. Emulators are free and Roms are out there. It’s not technically legal, but neither or are pirated consoles. I don’t call it a Chinese knockoff in order to offend you, rather, I’m being factually descriptive. Those rom packed consoles you can buy online with like a thousand games, and there are many, are almost exclusively Chinese knockoffs. This isn’t to say they are trash or bad, but that they are made in China and that they are made without the consent of the intellectual property holders who own the rights to all those games. That’s all. If you enjoy it, then more power to you, but keep in mind you don’t have to spend any money to illegally pirate any game you want. It’s really easy to do for free. I’m not suggesting you do that, but it’s a funny thing to celebrate this move like you made a business power play or something. Some people want to pay $120 for 50 officially released Genesis games. Some people will pay $100 for a 1000 random games (most of which probably work well enough). And some people just steal everything. I’m not condoning any of these decisions. Personally, I’m not buying the new Mega Drive Mini 2. The Genesis Mini 2 just went on preorder from Amazon Japan and it’s $120 with shipping. That’s just too much.

I don't want to download things on my computer when I can use a system that takes up only a fourth of the space. The $100 I spent was well worth it. I don't care if the games are licensed or not, I don't care if it's a knockoff and I don't care what country it was made in. I think that’s totally fair, but I think everyone has their own preferences about these things. If I had to bet, most people buying a Mega Drive Mini probably either already have a similar Chinese console, or they have tons of roms on a computer of some kind.

I'm not sure I'd go as far as to call it a scam, but it is kind of a cash grab. They could have easily released a mini console featuring the Mega Drive that contained many more games and they wouldn't have needed to do a "sequel"....but when people are willing to accept less? Well, I guess that's an opportunity to milk it? I honestly was never as impressed with the Genesis Mini as much as everyone else. The SNES mini only have a little over 20 games but every single game was a definitive classic. It was almost perfect save for the omission of Chrono Trigger and maybe Killer Instinct. The TG-16 Mini was also fairly comprehensive, covering several add ons and even a completely unique console....the SuperGrafx. It's the miniconsole I play the most. But the Genesis Mini? There are so many ways to play those games already, and I think the Genesis version of Tetris sucks. Anyway, thanks for watching dude!

You say "Hang On" was impressive back in the day, but is laughable now... However, I am really impressed that the Master System was capable of high quality FMV. Even better looking than Playstation. Yet, I can see how that can be distracting while playing. I would like to see a video arguing the best retro collection system. Like if you are only going to buy one, which one should we get?

That’s a really good question and I think it depends on the era in question. Back in the early 2000s to 2010 or so, it was the NES due to relevance and the prevalence of cheap good quality software. Then it was the SNES and Genesis. But each time the market is over exploited and prices go up so high that it becomes a ridiculous preoccupation. The same thing eventually happened to the Master System and the TG16. Then it was the GameCube. All eyes are currently on the PS2. From what I can tell, unless you’re willing to invest thousands of dollars for a small library of games, most of the mainstream retro consoles on the 80s and 90s are essentially finished as an object of collecting.

well it's fully announced now and I have to admit to being disappointed and cancelling my preorder. I don't think it's a terrible deal and there's definitely some good games included but I just feel bummed after seeing how much they put into the first one. I'm hoping you'll do a follow up episode to talk about it but maybe it's not worth it. Or maybe Brad has something to say... I'm also curious what you think of the new Evercade EXP announcement. I was shocked a little seeing the 18 included Capcom games but on second thought I'm pretty bummed about that one too. It's certainly not a bad thing for Evercade and might serve to bring more people on board but it seems like a kick in the nuts to people who already own the original or the VS since it's not coming as a cartridge as I think if they put all 18 games on a cartridge it would easily be the best cartridge available.

I also have mixed feelings about the Evercade capcom announcement. I think the response has been mostly quite negative since their fan base is so vehement about “physical media”. I really like the game selection, though it’s weird that they didn’t stick to arcade games and threw in a couple of megamans. It’s thematically odd. I get why they did it, because they need to incentivize people buying that console but like you I am bummed that you can’t buy a capcom cart. Also, those games are on the capcom stadium l! I really love how much effort blaze puts into providing good stuff though. They really strive

@@creativecatproductions Yeah, I thought I was buying the Mini 2 no matter what but I'm just too disappointed. Definitely some good cartridge games (Crusader of Centy, Lightening Force and Elemental Master are standouts along the two you mentioned) and some games that were on the Mega Drive 1 but we didn't get (Shining Force 2, Revenge of Shinobi but still no Musha!) and both Ranger X and Alien Soldier are cool looking games that were pleasant surprises but I was really hoping to see more Konami, Disney and Capcom with things like Rocket Knight Adventures, Aladdin, Gargoyles, Quack Shot, Mercs, Chiki Chiki boys but nothing like that. Or possibly something similar to Monster World IV with an English translation of something that didn't come to the US (Panorama Cotton or Twinkle Tale perhaps?) but no. They gave a lot but far too many fillers games or C tier games but I would have forgiven all of that with a solid CD selection. I had the Sega CD as a kid and had garbage like Sewer Shark and Double Switch so hoped this would be a showcase for how good the add on could be but that is a junk lineup. I know you like Echo as much as me (don't like it at all) so it's about 5 games worth playing more than 10 minutes. And while the Lunars or Popful Mail would have been great and a selling feature but there were sooo many others. Snatcher of course or Rise of the Dragon would have been awesome for a comic adventure style game. The Core Design games (Soul Star, Thunderhawk, Battlecorps) would have been excellent. I can go on (Lords of Thunder, Keio Flying Squadron, Dark Wizard, Vay, Road Avenger and on and on) but it was just so disappointing to see that CD list. And I'll still buy it if it was the same price as the original or even if it you could get it for the list price of $99 but to also have to pay $22 for shipping? We're now talking about $120+ which is 50% more than the original!?! I understand inflation and chip shortages and supply lines but come on 50% more! so I look your thoughts and if you think we should hope they'll come back with a Master System Mini or something else down the road (or if they'll make the Genesis Mini 3 and fill it with Sega of America games like Greendog)

SegaSammy has to be the most oddball company that’s surprising to see still alive. People remember the Mega Drive classics, but they are clamoring for the Dreamcast comeback. In fact, some of the richest history of Sega is tied to their arcades. So it can be baffling how Sammy can still be alive after all their decisions. The more I think about, should their gaming development go completely under, will they still survive off of everything else. Because really, the video games are not what is making them the bucks, the online pachinko and resorts are. If their recent tragedy with sonic origins and their super game hyenas to go by, they may be looking at an early retirement in game development.

It is really odd that Sega keeps dipping endlessly into the Mega Drive as if it didn’t do so much more. They’ve been repeating this trick for roughly 20 years. I remember in the years after the Dreamcast how they started selling Genesis complications…..and they’ve never stopped. One reason I think the Mega Drive Mini probably didn’t do as well as they hoped is that Mega Drive games are so painfully over exposed and over exploited. Everyone is sick of seeing Altered Beast and the original Sonic game. I think they really want and need this new Sonic Frontiers game to be a major hit. If it’s not then I really do think there is a chance that Sega-Sammy may want to sell the Sega brand and stick to casinos. Thanks for watching dude! 😎

@@creativecatproductions I don’t know man, I can see the hardcore fans and maybe a good chunk of the casual market to pick this game up. But, there are red flags and people are putting that aside. Like if this game had no flags and was genuinely good on the first showcasing, sure. But, this is SegaSammy and…more people need to realize that they’re mostly not a gaming company at heart anymore. Currently this is a lessor BOTW aiming at Japanese audience yet alienating a big chunk of their western audience. The only things western are the characters, reused stages and Flynn. If I recall, all three categories aren’t squeaky clean either so…that movie influence done by PARAMOUNT is what the company is really really banking on. You already messed up Origins, people see the flags with rushed development, it’s not getting delayed. So it depends on if the people who aren’t aware or oblivious to the issues are the majority to buy this game.

Most Sega fans are gushing whenever they release old compilations of titles in a mini console, right? They are wanting to relive the old memories that Sega gave them before converting into SegaSammy. But here’s the kicker, that Sega is never coming back no matter how vocal the bases are. They just don’t have that kind of power anymore. Nowadays they run mobile and online games that don’t feel like the OG Sega games from systems like Dreamcast or Saturn. Nostalgia is a powerful tool, but they’ve also been known to run it into the ground with Sonic stuff. Even if they came up with a new IP, it’s very difficult nowadays to launch it with success. Splatoon was the best example during the time and now where it boomed because of the unique concept tied to the company that created it. SegaSammy doesn’t have the people who can think or act like that anymore, I still think they don’t. At this point, people praise Sega for the memories of before not the current. And now, people are starting to look beyond to see how much of a downfall they have spiraled and still today. Like Hyenas…nobody really thought it was engaging. Origins, I don’t need to explain what happened with Headcannon. Frontiers, doesn’t look like a Sonic game as I see. The new things they create can’t seem to launch without a hitch. It’s a huge contrast to the time where they reign over Nintendo, now they only have like 5% of billion max capital in comparison to the big N’s nearly 8 trillion assets total. What has SegaSammy done as of recently that gave the impression that the Sega we once knew is still in there somewhere?

It’s true that the mini 2 will have some Sega CD games, people are reporting around 20, but I think it’s also true that this is far in excess of the number of SEGA CD games that are actually worth playing. It was not a very good add on by any stretch of the imagination and was widely regarded as a commercial failure. It’s a cool gimmick but it’s definitely not a deal breaker unless it includes the English version of snatcher and Keio Flying Squadron…..again, neither are really great games but both are essential oddities that everyone needs to experience. The Genesis was definitely not a fluke. It had an extensive library of classic games that rank among some of the best of all time. Nearly 700 titles the last I checked. Sega was a great game developer and they definitely made good hardware. It’s just that they were often their own worst enemy and they had a very bad habit of competing with themselves, spreading themselves too thin, and constantly innovating without keeping touch with the elements that brought them success in that past. Largely this capriciousness was a function of having too many leaders making too many decisions…..but the games are what matter most to me and they were truly awesome…..most of the time.
