Seiko Presage SRPD97 "Japanese Garden" Review & Strap Alternatives

Good to be back! A lot has happened the past year and my activity KZbin has been a bit low. Finally I'm able to share my thoughts about this Seiko Presage Japanese Garden SRPD97! This watch is one of the few sub 40 mm Seiko Presage watches, for less than 500 $ or €. With the Seiko Sarb035 and Sarb033 modes becoming more difficult to source, the SPRD97 and SRPD99 (black dial) are a great alternative, if not the best one, in the same price category.

Nice review as usual. I've never understood why butterfly clasp-style bracelets can't have at least a few micro links, since it's alway a lottery if it will fit well. Yeah, the pin and collar system isn't stellar either. But as you showed, this watch will fit greatly with various straps if one doesn't like that bracelet. Otherwise this Seiko looks really great. Love the dial with that awesome texture, and the indicies matches that really well. Seiko really knows how to do great dials. And of course sapphire crystal is a great bonus as well here.

I actually wore the bracelet for quite some time after filming. It's growing on me! It is very comfortable and I'm getting used to the look of it. Might comment it differently now!

I mean, it really comes down to preferences and price range. This is a great watch, so is a Hamilton. Depends a lot o what kind of style watch you want.

I can’t find this watch anywhere. I clicked the link on your bio for amazon and one of them has the picture of the watch, but it says srpd37 Brown so I’m assuming this is another watch than what is actually pictured? May you help me find this? I’m new into watches and live in the US.

Hmm yeah these were a struggle to find on Amazon. I see the amazon posting you’re talking about. The picture isn’t exactly this model either, since it has the date window at the 6 o’ clock, when this one has it at the 3. I’ll see if I can help you find it!

Can’t really find these easily in Germany for some time now, I think.. couple years ago quite easy to buy. But I assumed they just didn’t make or order quite enough, I don’t think it was selling that fast, but not sure

More than one website of German shops which I know have brick and mortar as well says "nicht mehr lieferbar." It might really just be straight up sold out here and ya gotta order from Singapore, haha

Just one thing to note - it's not a five-link bracelet. It's a three-link bracelet made to look like a five-link from the front. You can clearly see that from the back side at 5:11. I own the watch, and I find the bracelet to be VERY comfortable, as long as I wear it loose (took a few attempts to find out how many links I need to take out). And I love the fact that almost any classic leather strap will look great on this watch. Perfect for the office as well as any formal event, but can still be worn casually. The 4R movement is easy to service and regulate. Add a quartz diver, and you have the perfect two-watch collection that covers all needs and is easy/affordable to maintain :)

Ahh, that's a good correction! Thank you :) So it's a 5-link style bracelet but made with 3 links! It is very comfortable for sure, and looks great on leather too.

My Seiko dealer said these are discontinued now. Also, I believe these have a 19mm lug width not 20mm.
