Congratulations on 20k!! It's been awesome to see the channel grow right from the start, onwards to more growth! The Tudor is a serious bit of kit and special in its own right but I agree with your point break down. The Seiko does have more of that x factor which helps make up for some it's deficiencies. The BB41 is great but not sure if it's got the x factor

I agree with your take, the Tudor (or any Tudor for that matter) is very much worthy of respect but I'm not sure if it can pull my heart strings as much as seikos. However, the build quality and accuracy do add to the experience quite a bit so i think it could even out in a way!

Now it makes me more not sure which one I should go with..😂 I really like the look of tudor which gives me the vintage vibe with retro color of black/white and fewer letters.. but seiko is waay more comfortable to wear for my small wrist and costs me better! And since it's a "diver watch" I wanna use it actively without caring too much of the fact I'm wearing an expensive watch. Maybe I'll watch it again before buying. I have a whole 21mm strap collection now for my Hydroconquest, it wasnt too hard. Sure you miss a few here and there that dont come in the size and i must admit ive gone with mostly natos, sailcloth and a couple cheeky leather straps coz i have the facory rubber already as an option. But Barton offer 21mm rubber straps that might be an alright solution.
@thewatchidiot3 ай бұрын
Yeah I tried out natos and leather straps but I'm mainly a bracelet and a rubber strap guy, although I do wear leather more in the fall and winter. And as for the Barton straps theyre good, but unfortunately they dont taper as much as I'd like them to, and the buckle side of the strap is a touch short (75mm instead the usual 80mm). My main issue is that there are a bunch of 20mm rubber straps I love but they dont have 21mm versions of them unfortunately I'm hoping third party strap makers will make a nice tapered integrated rubber strap for the new BB41 bc that would solve most of my issues! Until then I'll keep exploring amazon 😂

@thewatchidiot3 ай бұрын
First of all, yellow tropic strap on the flightmaster sounds like a fantastic combo! But unfortunately I gave tropic straps a go, i like their look however because they are thicker at the top (by the watch) they dont curve around the wrist as easily and it feels like its cinching in the top of my wrist. I'm just looking for the standard fkm rubber strap I showed my BB41 MC on. Funny thing is that despite the numerous brands and price points, I'm sure that theyre all made at the same factories bc they are all essentially identical and there are no variations in sizing!
@dmits223 ай бұрын
I agree about them all being made by the same factory, however the Straphabit ones are different from them in every respect. They make quite a few different designs from step straps and inverted step to iso types out of FKM. I'm a steadfast Original Tropic strap wearer and I wear these now.
@thewatchidiot3 ай бұрын
@dmits22 yeah I've got straphabit fkm straps in all the sizes I wear! And randomly I saw that they make a really nice thin sail cloth strap which happens to taper 21 to 18. I wear it on my Longines SZT and I love it on that but it unfortunately gets overpowered by the BB41 watch head. So close!
@nedflanders37693 ай бұрын
Both are great looking watches, IMO. Seiko needs to step up their movement game for sure. Especially their 6R movements, they’re just crap. Tudor needs to address those huge slab sides on the case. It just seems lazy. Why can’t they make it have a thinner midcase, which would make it overall look so much better. Your comparison was spot on. But if I was going to spend around $2-3k, I’d probably get a Longines.

@jamesminshall46013 ай бұрын
I haven’t seen the Seiko in the flesh but it looks so much better than the previous version and I love the date implementation but I’m guessing that date is difficult to read which would rule it out for me. The Tudor is already ruled out for not having a date. I think it’s very generous to give the seiko 7 for the bracelet. I might go up to 4 if someone knows of a clasp with on the fly adjustment that fits, but if not it would go straight in the box never to see the light of day again.
@thewatchidiot3 ай бұрын
Seiko did a fantastic job with this update and i agree having a date is a plus point and i actually think this 430 implementation is the best since we get a date that can fade into the background while getting a full set of lumed indices! Here's a on the fly adjustable clasp that would work on the SPB453 and most Seikos that have a 18mm clasp that are attached by spring bars: amzn.to/4g2vKzF I can see why 7 would be considered very generous but for me comfort on the wrist is probably the single most important aspect of a watch bc no matter how beautiful or high quality a watch may be, if it doesnt feel smooth and comfortable on my wrist, its barely going to get any wrist time. The Seiko watch head plus the bracelet makes for one of the most comfortable watches i own and its more effortlessly comfortable than the BB41 Monochrome. If we're talking solely about quality then yeah the Tudor bracelet is much better

Why score for strap availability?
@thewatchidiot3 ай бұрын
For me and many others, being able to swap out straps is really important, so a watch not being compatible with straps we've already spent money on and own can be a downside bc that means we'll need to buy more of the same strap just in a different size for one or maybe two watches. 21mm lugs make things more difficult since most straps dont have 21mm variants. That said if this isnt an issue for you then the Tudor won!
@watchchimp31023 ай бұрын
Hmmm . . . . The Seiko wins by half a point based on strap compatibility? Sorry, but you gave the Tudor a surprisingly high score in the Value segment!? A segment that was a bit of a head scratcher. As even as the watches are, the fact that the Seiko realistically costs less than a third of the Tudor would kind of dictate that it's the value king. Thus taking the final by a commanding margin! There is no hate on the Tudor, but there's a reason the SPB 143 and now this watch are so widely praised; they just kick ass!! 😅
@bruno_cerous3 ай бұрын
Cost and value are not the same thing. The more accurate way to look at it, is Value = Features /Spec - Cost. Seiko's movements are reliable, but not 4hz , not anti-magnetic and not especially accurate. Their quality control is legendarily terrible and their bracelets have always been worst in class at pretty much any price point. When you compare the Tudor against other METAS certified watches, the value it offers is extremely obvious. The Seiko is a great design and is way more interesting to look at than the Black Bay, but it's way too expensive for what it actually offers. Saying Seiko is the value king, just isn't true. Maybe 6 to 10 years ago, but definitely not now.

@thewatchidiot3 ай бұрын
Nice I'm excited for you to get the SPB453! I agree that the MM SJE101 would technically line up more equally against the BB41, however for me its even more difficult to justify considering the stated accuracy range isnt much improved over the 6R in the SPB453. But more importantly, for me at least, they use only a slightly nicer version of the clasp with that stupid divers extension! Given the overall value of the SPB453, its hard to consider any other versions of the 62MAS

@@thewatchidiot yea generally I dislike mid tier watches as they rely too much on specs trying to outspec something like a submariner but I just don't feel that way about the IWC. It is IWC through and through. Tudor is trying to be rolex with an unbelibable (too good to be true price tag) instead of being the eta movement or eqivalent off the shelf one cased in rolex parts like it originally was supposed to be. I'm just never gonna buy another Tudor when I know it depreciates and the service cost is the same as a rolex that's the too good to be true part. It's the Volksvagen to Audi. Up front cheaper and spec wise pretty close but in the long run just a bitter aftertaste. Felt the same way about the modern seamasters and longines hydroconquests.

A great comparison TWI. I think my takeaway from this one is that these two watches are definitely worth a second look at there individual price points and both great watches period. I have not tried either of these watches but I do have watches by Tudor and Seiko in my collection. Design as you mention is usually more adventurous and exiting with Seiko but build and finish would probably go to the less exciting Tudor design. Movements are harder to compare given the different price points but the Seiko should be easier to find someone to service it. Bracelet wise for me I would pick the Tudor over many brands, the T-Fit is brilliant (The Pelagos clasp is even better IMHO) and the Oyster style is super comfortable in my experience and I'm not bothered about the faux rivets at all. Is the Tudor worth the extra cost? Well I'll let other make that decision for themselves a they will be paying for and wearing the watch. Many thanks for sharing.

It kind of feels like the "strapmonsterability" section was a bit of a liberty to ensure that the Seiko came out ahead. There's absolutely nothing wrong with you preferring it over the Monochrome, but all of your issues with the bracelet and rubber options that impacted its scoring, could have been entirely mitigated by getting the rubber strap version.

Strap monster means it must be able to fit with a wide variety of straps, not just the OEM strap. The Tudor is awful on the strap because of the lug positioning being so far away from the main case. The huge gap is an eyesore and requires an end link to fill because it's clearly designed first and foremost to be worn on the bracelet.

The Seiko looks so much cheaper made (as it should). The build quality makes it look like a toy
@gg.komorebi3 ай бұрын
I don't know if it makes sense to compare watches of different price ranges. The Tudor is much more expensive and therefore it is clear that it has a better movement and the bracelet and clasp are better. But anyway, I would prefer the Seiko because the Tudor does not justify the big price difference In my opinion.

There is no Date on the Tudor. I’m going Seiko
@thewatchidiot3 ай бұрын
having a date window is nice especially one thats as well executed as the one on this Seiko. I'm in the minority but i think its awesome that the 453 gives us the date and a full set of indices!
@Pete222223 ай бұрын
No date is the best feature it’s got. Unless you’re having some memory issues. I don’t need to refer to my watch to remember that it’s the 25th all day. And then tomorrow it will be the 26th…all day. I guess my memory is photographic 🤓

The date placement on the Seiko is an atrocity

@@Pete22222it’s not necessarily memory issues, but it’s nice not having to remember the number of the day of the month we’re in. Specially for me, since I work night shift, sometimes more than 7 nights in a row.

I’m sorry, but there is ABSOLUTELY NO COMPARISON in the Tudor & Seiko… Reason is, the movement that Tudor does in house is amazing, & all the lines of the Tudor & excellent was the bracelet meets the case is spot on & flows awesome. Again, just my opinion, but seiko has no chance against the Tudor

Comparing the Tudor Black Bay to the Seiko SPB453 can be considered ridiculous because the two watches cater to entirely different markets, with significant differences in brand heritage, positioning, craftsmanship, and pricing. Here's a solid argument: 1. Brand Heritage and Positioning Tudor Black Bay: Tudor is a luxury brand with a deep-rooted connection to Rolex, its parent company. The Black Bay line is designed to capture the essence of classic dive watches, combining Swiss luxury watchmaking with historical design cues. Tudor is positioned as a premium brand, appealing to enthusiasts who value heritage, prestige, and a high level of craftsmanship. Seiko SPB453: Seiko is a brand known for offering a wide range of watches, from affordable to mid-tier, with a focus on value, innovation, and reliability. The SPB453 is part of Seiko’s Prospex line, which is known for producing professional-grade dive watches at a more accessible price point. Seiko's heritage is more about innovation and functional design than luxury. 2. Price and Market Segment Tudor Black Bay: The Black Bay is positioned in the luxury watch market, with a price tag that reflects its quality, materials, and craftsmanship. It’s designed for those willing to invest in a timepiece that not only performs well but also carries the prestige of Swiss watchmaking. Seiko SPB453: The SPB453, while a solid and well-made watch, is targeted at a completely different market segment. It’s priced much lower than the Black Bay, appealing to buyers looking for a high-quality dive watch without the luxury price tag. Comparing the two on price alone makes little sense, as they cater to vastly different budgets. 3. Craftsmanship and Materials Tudor Black Bay: The Black Bay features high-end materials such as 316L stainless steel, often with intricate finishes and premium details. It also often includes Tudor’s in-house movement, known for its precision and durability. The overall fit and finish of the Black Bay are on par with luxury standards, offering a superior tactile experience. Seiko SPB453: The SPB453, while well-crafted, uses materials and movements that are appropriate for its price point. The watch is durable and reliable, but it doesn’t offer the same level of finishing, detailing, or the prestige of an in-house movement like the Black Bay. The craftsmanship is excellent for its category but not comparable to the luxury level of Tudor. 4. Design Philosophy and Appeal Tudor Black Bay: The Black Bay’s design is rooted in vintage dive watches, offering a blend of modern functionality with historical aesthetics. It’s a watch that appeals to collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate the heritage and luxury aspects of watchmaking. Seiko SPB453: The SPB453, part of Seiko’s Prospex line, is designed with a focus on practicality and performance, often with a more modern and functional design. It’s a tool watch that emphasizes reliability and durability over luxury, catering to those who need a dependable dive watch without the frills of a luxury brand. Conclusion Comparing the Tudor Black Bay to the Seiko SPB453 is ridiculous because they are fundamentally different products aimed at different audiences. The Tudor Black Bay is a luxury timepiece with a focus on heritage, craftsmanship, and prestige, while the Seiko SPB453 is a high-quality, value-oriented dive watch designed for practicality and reliability. Each excels in its respective category, but they serve different purposes and are not directly comparable.

I’ve tried both watches and the Seiko is way better than the Tudor hands down. The case design and finishing. There is nothing luxurious feeling about the Tudor. FYI Seiko has always had in-house movements, even before it became a thing to brag about. Whereas, Tudor just now stop using ETA movements. I now own the SPB 453 and get compliments by guys wearing Rolex’s.

316L , stainless steel is used by most watch manufacturers and is common. My seiko sla043 that costs over £4000 , uses everbrilliant steel which is marine grade and comparable to rolexes 904L steel. So don't for one minute think seiko can't compete with tudor . Seikos also have a diasheld hardcoating on their prospex models that really help keep the watches looking like new . The tudors win on accuracy though , even my 4k seiko isn't close to the accuracy of the tudor.

The Seiko Design is heritage because it re interpretation from 62MAS 1965. The Seiko Steel is 316L to and high quality😂 seems your words was create from chat GPT. Very lack Seiko Knowledge😂

I don’t know what watch you’re looking at but my SPB 453 has no gaps between the lugs and the bracelet. They fixed all of that. I’m telling you the watch is solid!

@joaquinbarreto93983 ай бұрын
I hate to be the guy. I love watches from all price ranges but frankly Seiko is just not there. They’ve destroyed the brand with their models, pricing and brand positioning. Anything that is not grand Seiko is just on the same spectrum of a 300 dollar Seiko and that’s the problem. This model just isn’t worthy of a Black Bay comparison. Just my 2 cents.

But the Seiko movement will last a lot longer than tudor. Because my north flag which was 5 years which started to become gritty when winding it .
@kingflip82573 ай бұрын
Wow, you couldn’t have been more wrong of you tried. You cannot with a straight face say that Seiko prospect or presage are not great watches. You can go and buy a $150-$300 Seiko right now and you can tell it’s a $300 Seiko. But to even elude that the SBP 453 is nothing more than SKX is insane. The SPB 453 is worth every penny of the $1,300 asking price to get it any lower is a steal. If that dial had omega on it, people would drop 4-5k on it and would think twice about, even praise it as a deal, but because it has S-E-I-K-O on the dial somehow it’s over priced. It’s nothing more than watch snobbery.

Let's say the click bait title stands, and both watches are back to "basic", why is the other one overpriced? Oh i know! It's the " swiss" made artificial pedigree crap the swiss marketing machine wants consumer to believe
