My Dad was a Contractor Carpenter over 50 yrs . He built the custom 2500 sq ft home I am standing in! I retired and at 50 now 66 I became a finish carpenter/ contractor ( Solo ) . He directed to finish work , vanities, builtins, base, doors ect.,. And told me the “ Small jobs are the most profitable jobs “ ! 100% 💯 Dead Nutz On!

@@kieronknott8741 you can even just use a guide on the circular saw depending on how level the floor is.

Good to see a jobbing carpenter making a living from a variety of smaller jobs. More interesting than throwing up frames and trusses for sure and more skills required 👍🏻

I always put key trough letterbox warped in paper and in an envelope. I wrote on envelope as well so they never thought it was junk mail. Had a job where the key landed on a tiled floor. Customer opened the door and the key jammed under the door when it was a quarter open. Destroyed floor tile and split some wood off the door bottom when they had to force it open to get in. Made me paranoid after that. Good work again... Yeah small jobs can be profitable sometimes.

Mate, vans are a nightmare. Literally everything on that list, I’ve had to do to my van in the last 18months.it’s still a bit temperamental now. Good luck with yours!!! Fair play to you tho, driving around in a car. I just used the self employment card and took time off😂
@timh71562 ай бұрын
Here in the USA a lot of contractors don’t like the small jobs. That’s all I do. They pay well if you charge enough and people will call you back to do more work and tell their friends about you if you do good work. My only suggestion is to take enough time to do a nice job and make sure everything is neat and clean when leave. A simple plywood jig and a couple of clamps is all you need to get a straight cut if you don’t have a track saw.

You also need to add the time it takes to visit, price jobs, get materials, do your admin, cost of tools ware and tair, book keeping, accounts, tax, car van use maintenance. Even small jobing carpenters have overheads and should not be afraid to change. I know you think you are doing well for the day, but I think your undercharging for your work. Nice video
@glennfolau69592 ай бұрын
I do a lot of smaller jobs, they can be quite profitable, however, some smaller jobs can be quite awkward, especially if you are attaching new product to older windows, doors etc.,.and there are jobs where you often need that extra pair of hands, and they're not available when you need them. Another bug bear of mine is clients think that if a job seems "small", then it should only take 5 minutes. Or a client says, "while your here, could you...".
