Thank you very much for providing us with this information. I’m hoping that in future videos you will talk in some detail about the comorbidities that occur with chronic kidney disease such as insulin resistance, cardiovascular disease, anemia, dementia,dislipidemia etc. and if what we eat makes any difference in outcomes over time. We get zero feedback from the nephrologist.

eGFR is confusing. I've seen shifts in my levels throughout the years. My eGFR was the highest at 112 in 2016, and the lowest at 69 in 2017. In 2017, my creatinine was high at 1.430. I remember being more active in the gym around this time. However, I was taking a pre-workout supplement called SuperPump 250 with DMAA almost 4 days a week. SuperPump contained creatine. When I ran out, my eGFR kept rising in the high 80s and 90s each year until 2022 when it was 107. May 2023, it was 83. October 2023 it was 89. What was I doing differently in 2022? Despite taking a new pre-workout supplement with the similar ingredients, called Dark Energy, it did not contain creatine. I believe the creatine supplement contributed to my low eGFR in 2017. I also weighed 30 lbs less in 2022, which is what I weighed in 2016 when my eGFR was 112. I noticed my eGFR is better when I keep the extra weight off. Nevertheless, in 2016 and 2022 , I practiced intermittent fasting, and consumed less meat, possibly 2x a week at the most. When I ate meat, it wasn't fried or processed. For a snack, I'd drink low sodium V8 juice. I'm going to test this again and do labs again before the summer.

Doc. It is first time I chanced upon your videos. I am lucky to know it. My problem is that I feel the urge to urinate as soon as I drink water and urinate too frequently , even during night. I came down from 3 liters a day to just half a litre water a day. It certainly reduced the frequency but not the urgency to urinate and as well as leaky droplets of urine, Can yo advise.

Hi! Can you do a video on medulla sponge kidney? I have this, and my doctor is a little concerned about my GFR. It's not really bad, and my creatinine levels are good, but my GFR is consistently at around 70 to 80 over time. This was found when I was about 36. I am 49 now. My GFR varies. I've had many kidney stones and at one point it caused hydronephrosis. I'm wondering if that caused my lowered kidney function or if it could be from having medulla sponge kidney. Thank you for your video's!

I have a GFR of I think 68 and my creatinine has been high for the past 2 years but my Dr's say nothing. My main health problem is epilepsy, but it is manageable. I am 37 now and I have been paying more attention to other health issues bc both my parents died from heart disease and my mom also had diabetes in the end. I'm wondering if my kidneys could be getting bad because I have been on seizure meds for the past 20 years? Especially Lamictal and Topamax. My neurologist says nothing about my blood tests but I know something is not right.

Doc, could you please tell us whether Goji Berry is good or not for people with CKD especially those in Stage 3 ? Why (not)?
@SELFPrinciple
@SELFPrinciple Жыл бұрын
In general golgi berries are safe and help a number of things. However, there really isn't much data in kidney disease. Also, they interact with a number of medications and can either increase or decrease the effectiveness of them.

Which anti-inflammatories at low doses are the least stressful on the kidneys? What is the current thinking about selective and semi-selective COX-2 inhibitors? Thanks.
@SELFPrinciple
@SELFPrinciple Жыл бұрын
Cox-2 inhibitors are not recommended in kidney disease given their risk of causing acute kidney injury. Unfortunately, not a whole lot of options in ckd. Tylenol is used (albeit not an anti-inflammatory)

Hi Sean, My husband just got diagnosed with stage 3 kidney disease. There are so many people I know being diagnosed with the high blood pressure and kidney disease problems. A lot of people are saying since the covid Vax, their family has developed these problems after getting the Vax. Could there be a relationship with these problems with the spiked protein and all these new cases.

My biopsy showed large filters in kidneys. What can I do different? What happened to me? Could I control with my diet? I feel like I already eat okay enough. What questions can I ask my nephrologist?

Its actually the opposite. Often we find gluten free foods have higher potassium, sodium and phos. We don't have any good data to support restricting gluten in ckd yet.

New subscriber here my Dr informed me this week that my blood work indicated my kidneys were working at 45 dropping from 55 to 45 in the last 6 months also my potassium is high I'm a soon to be 61 year old Native American also morbidly obese, I will be seeing a kidney Dr soon but in the meantime I have started trying to change my eating habits my question is it safe to have oatmeal for breakfast and also is it safe for me to have a serving of rice or pasta with my vegetables for dinner...sorry for the long question but I just want to do what I can right now to begin helping myself as much as possible also was diagnosed with MS in 2020...thanks in advance
@SELFPrinciple
@SELFPrinciple Жыл бұрын
The answer is yes, oatmeal, brown rice are okay as long as you are getting regular potassium checks. You need to work on potassium control. High potassium is extremely dangerous to the heart. Sometimes we give binders to control potassium. When it comes to weight loss, it's important to start tracking how many calories you are eating and then decrease that number by 500-750/day.

The kidney stuff was interesting and authoritative but the diet stuff is a bit dubious. There's alternative advice out there which does not support eating a wholly plant-based diet. I note this guy's qualifications but he does not back up his point of view by citing any studies. Can't see any on his website either. I don't like personality-based schools of thought, they tend to depart from what mainstream science suggests.

Can foamy urine be treated. Im on losartan ned for my blood pressure but i am still having foamy urine. What can i do.?
@SELFPrinciple
@SELFPrinciple Жыл бұрын
If you are spilling protein in the urine, losartan (ARB) is one of the drugs used to lower it. Other things are low protein, plant-based diet, controlling sugars, tight blood pressure control, weight loss. Its important to find our why you are spilling.
