For me, you're absolutely right on point. The ads I just go right by are the "one picture" ads and anyone who ends with language like "please don't waste my time" or "absolutely firm."

Great video thanks. One thing you may want to add to that with another video is; coming to terms with selling the boat you have owned for decades. The emotional/psychological side of committing to sell. Oh so many memories.

As far as bow numbers, in the states it depends on the State you live in. In my state, if your boat is registered with the Coast Guard it does not have to be registered in the state and it can NOT have a title.

Love to hear your thoughts about the old Newport boats. We own a 1973 Newport MKII (Gary Mull design) and find the boat a delight to sail.

Good info. The location you're selling the boat is huge. "Wild we Rome" for instance put their HR up for sale after their 1st passage on the island they landed on. Big mistake...

I use a commercial ozone generator on my boat for routine freshening up of mildew. Works really well. Not suitable while occupying the vessel, so I leave it overnight when not on board.

When I sold my boat after 21 years of ownership.. I emphasized the extra equipment. I had the diesel winterized (it was November). I went in and cleaned it thoroughly. I was surprised to find some diesel in tbe bilge. I figured that during winterazation by the marina, they spilled some. I cleaned it out throughly. My broker got a buyer in a few weeks. Yahoo.. they looked at it. Got a survey. They made an acceptable offer. Tbe broker asked why there was a little diesel fuel in tbe bilge. He said it must have gotten there during winterazation. I took tbe offer..and have felt guilty ever since. I'm sure the diesel tank had popped a small leak. Never been there before.

During WW 11 the British were getting low on aluminum so they made a twin engine bomber out of spruce. It was so fast the German's fighters could not catch it. Bamboo is far stronger than any wood. The tensil strenght of aluminum is 30,000 psi a cubic foot is 166 pounds. Bamboo's tensil strength is 28'000 psi it weights 20 pounds a cubic foot. A cubic foot of aluminum will take 4,200,000 pounds to pull in two at 166 pounds. Bamboo blocks of 1 cubic foot would take 8 blocks to weight 160 pounds, and would take 32,000,000 to pull in two. In Columbia bamboo is a grass that grows to over 120 feet in 5 years, and if you cut it down the stump grows another tree. Check Elora Hardy's majical bamboo house on KZbin.

Actually the question of does a 36' boat come with a trailer is very valid even though it is more rare. You can haul most boats (especially sailboats) up to 50' range with the proper permits on public roads, there is multiple oversize levels based on height, width and weight. But also having a trailer that is basically a mobile cradle for use in the boat yard is not a bad idea depending on the boats location, it makes it much easier to move around and is better (more evenly supported if it's built right for the vessel) as well as safer to move around the yard. Also some manufacturers also use to sell a trailer either as a option or standard, even on larger boats, the Seaward yachts Hake 46rk for example, with it's lifting keel and rudders it can almost be loaded as a smaller fishing boat ( that's their sales wording,I have yet to see it done becouse of most ramp angles, lol). And another good idea with advertising is if you are asking a regional high price in a area that normally has lower sales values, be sure to advertise it in areas with high resale for your boat if you are not willing to move it. Most of the time a high price in a regional market that has low prices is still lower than the high price market areas so the buyers may be willing to come to you or are looking to relocate either of which can work in your favor.

I agree with the different targeting of the photo's for both the potential male and female targets. One i would add and most pertinent to monohulls is detail any remedial work done to the vessel for known faults. IE. On an Albin Vega, a recent laminated deck support beam is a major plus in the boat as is an auxilliary rudder or a transom hung rudder, on an albin Ballad, a new mast foot mount again lifts the boat ahead of those without. ( yes, i know, both albin things, we all have our own fetishes ). Same could be said for a beefy fiberglassed in keel support grid on a Beneteau ( thanks Expedition Evans ) and maybe mega beefy upgrading on those pesky bulkheads on a Lagoon 450 ( yeah for Parlay and Collin and Jamie )

If you need the cash $$. Then sticking to your $$'s is great. But if you are looking to move up. You can make great deals trading up. Many times, I can get more, by trading off and up for more value eg. motorcycles, camper trailers, RV's, tools, equipment & machinery. Also consider the cost of moving to your location, your new to you boat . eg moving a G26 is $850- $1350 I offer transport/delivery as an available option/additional extra. With my buyers I share great deals on goods & services. eg Crazy inexpensive 12 month storage. $130/yr. ( Just storage- Not a boat works yard) Available mooring balls. etc.

It just so happens that I am selling my boat, but it seems it'll never sell after being advertised for the past 2 months and zero calls. Easier to scuttle it and collect the insurance.

A lot depends on the particular boat, if its not something people desire, selling its going to take time. Quality of photos as well play their part. If you could let us know where to find your advert , we could have a look and say why its perhaps not as attractive as it could be.

Better check the insurance payout first for a total loss...it might be well below your current asking price. And don't forget to factor in the costs of recovering the sunk boat and disposal at a land fill. The biggest cost could be the environmental fine for the spilled fuel and oil and other toxic waste aboard. After these calculations you will realize it's cheaper to give your boat away than scuttle it. In addition to the financial risk of scuttle, your also risk having to move to a room without a view and a loss of job if you get caught with the fraud and end up in jail for awhile but at least you don't have to cook for yourself or pay rent. Good luck with the sale, you are obviously overpricing it or no one knows the boat is for sale.

Good morning I hope you are well I love watching you channel it is so informative I started watching way back when you got tangled in the crab pods I live in South Africa and I have been dreaming of home building a Dudley Dix 38 ft yacht as I am not able to purchase one outright so I have started a crowdfunding campaign to get me started and then I will publish my videos to KZbin. My question is will you be willing to promote my campaign on your social media platforms and possibly your KZbin channel as I am finding it very difficult to get the campaign off the ground. Kind regards

You really should do a video about why people should join a yacht club. You and several other sailing channels have mentioned them in several of videos but I know that at least I have no clue what the point of joining is. From my inland perspective and experience with boating clubs is that it's just something for pretentious rich assholes to be snobby over. That isn't the type of vibes I get from your channel or many others so it leaves me a bit confused as to why you would join one.

True, some clubs may have a certain status to them but most that I am familiar with here in Ontario offer more of a social benefit. They put on races, offer sailing schools for kids, cruises to other clubs, bar and patios, speaker nights, and so on. Also clubs are self help where members do much of the work such as maintenance and put-in and haul-out. Price at our club is about the same as the marina nearby and a lot of the fancier boats are actually over at the marina. Just depends on the club I guess.

If people would actually bother to delete the post or at least update it with SOLD then that question wouldn't be necessary. Unfortunately for most postings on CL, if the post is more than a couple days old and still up there is no other way of telling if it is or is not available.
