@@jonbeech5158 Really? I thought, the word "bug" only applies to insects. But that might be because I am german and not an english native speaker. I don't think, that there is a german equivalent for the word for "bug", so we would translate it as "Käfer", which actually means "beetle". However, beetles/Käfer definitely are a biological sub-class of insects. That might add to the confusion of bugs being insects.

I have 2 very DIY native jar terrariums that are pretty small. I watched your videos and decided to make one (the jar is like 2inches tall) and i didnt really expect much but then it like.... it wasnt dying? so i ended up making another one in a pasta sauce jar and its thriving to say the least. I dont even have to open them so technically they are sealed but i do anyway just cause i like smelling them (they smell like fresh forests). It's been over a year now and now i even noticed that springtails have appeared inside which made me feel like a proud mother... basically thanks for doing these videos man :) You also taught me a lot about false bottoms and its the reason all my plants thrive in my bedroom (so much that they are outgrowing themselves and the window sill lmao) If it wasnt for you then i doubt my plants and room would look how they do now, you jump started a new passion, hobby and way to waste time for me and i love it (i sit by my window staring at my plants for ages just wasting away and enjoying life) So yeah basically Im just grateful to have come across your channel

Hey! I'm just curious to know a bit more about the carbon layer. Is there anything in nature that performs the same function? Does the charcoal from forest fires help to contribute to cleaner and healthier woodlands? Ps, love the terraception build! The snails and millipedes add so much, it's true that you don't really need any additional plants or hardscape elements. :)

Feather It's more to filter the water and not let the substrate sink in
@Luckingsworth6 жыл бұрын
Feather In a large environment like the planet waste isnt really an issue. And the ecosystem has many niche roles that will feed off of and recycle all possible waste elements. In such a small environment you cant possibly fill all niche roles and a small spike ikna certain waste product would instantly throw off the entire balance making the charcoal necessary. It's the same way aquariums need charcoal filters. It's not that life cant survive without one, just that the life that will take over is not what you want to see.
