I lived a sinful life style for 60 years; gambling, & running around…I read Bible book stories about all of the giants of the Old Testament, as a child, so I was aware, but didn’t live it…. The Lord chose me out of HIS love, and I’ve been serving HIM for eighteen years now…. Paul was a Giant!!! What faith!!! This song is my all time favorite…. To think of all the struggles our early forefathers had, is mind boggling…. Thank you, FATHER, for saving the wretched man that I am!! Sure glad I didn’t have to earn it…. Saved by the Precious BLOOD…

Just thinking about the elderly apostle writing these words to his beloved Timothy knowing that he could pulled from his cell and knowing that he could be executed at any moment. Truly Paul knew the One he believed in and we can also know Him in a personal way!

Actually it was written by John. He was the last one surviving and had not yet been arrested. There were four books written by John in the New testament which have been removed. There is no Timothy in true scripture. I put the tune to the words in the chorus to help me remember them when I was a tiny child. The actual words were "I know now" (KJV) not "But I know whom" I was so inspired by the writings of John. Paul/Saul did not emerge until 100 years after Jesus' death. He was well provided for with quill, parchment and desk in a Roman prison, where as the true Apostles were caught and tortured to death, each in a different way X

So happy that I found these hymns. I'm bombarding my soul with them to replace all the years of trash and nonsense ruckus that has complimented my old sinful habits. To God be the glory, because I find myself humming these hymns to myself more and more. It feels good to sing along to words of life instead of death

I love this comment. When I listen to hymns like these I feel built up and renewed in faith. I wasted so many years filling my mind with the trash of the world. I never realized just how much influence the music that we listen to has on our daily life. Hymns that I haven't sung since I was a kid will pop into my memory and I go searching for them to re-listen. It is food for the soul.

Exodus 23:2 *_[2]Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil;_* neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment: Conforming to the world by getting a shot full of poisonous chemicals that was (and still is) pushed tyrannically by the government is not "trusting God", it's trusting man. Jeremiah 17:5 [5]Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 [16]Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? [17]If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. If you were trusting God, then you would've taken heed to Scriptures like Psalm 91 and Psalm 101, and would've believed that God would've been able to protect you from getting sick, and would've been able to provide for you had you lost your job for not taking it. There is NOTHING too hard for the LORD. ALL "shots" are against Scripture. Know how? Not only because they're all extremely poisonous, but also because of the philosophy behind them: you go to get a "shot" from your "physician" to keep yourself from getting sick, but Jesus said: Luke 5:31 [31]And Jesus answering said unto them, *_They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick._* Also, go research and take a look at the underlying Greek words for "witchcraft" and "sorcery" in the New Testament of the King James Bible. It's quite telling. You might be saved, but you were seriously in the wrong for going along with the world and taking that garbage.

That verse in 2 Timothy 1, led me to this song. The profound faith and trust that Paul had in God even while in jail teaches us to be strong and never grow weary. I can feel his blood running through my veins. Hallelujah!

One of the saddest things I have ever heard was a "pastor" of a church (the church is closed, now, and this "pastor" long gone) who wanted more 'modern' Christian music because he felt that it touched feelings more. The hymns? Not as necessary because "all they did was teach doctrine." Shortly before I left that church (there were a lot of other reasons, as well) I told him that if the day came I was called to lose my life for my faith, I knew what I'd be singing if God granted me the strength - and it WOULDN'T be any 'modern' Christian music. It would hymns like this one. Thank you for keeping these amazing hymns of the faith alive!

Refrain But I know whom I have believèd, And am persuaded that He is able To keep that which I’ve committed Unto Him against that day. I know not how this saving faith To me He did impart, Nor how believing in His Word Wrought peace within my heart. Refrain I know not how the Spirit moves, Convincing us of sin, Revealing Jesus through the Word, Creating faith in Him. Refrain I know not what of good or ill May be reserved for me, Of weary ways or golden days, Before His face I see. Does anyone want this song played at the birth of their baby ? Seems that funerals are mentioned as the event where this hymn is played. Save the babies and help the ladies ! . . . . . . . . Amen?

Then I said: “Woe is me, for I am ruined, because I am a man of unclean lips dwelling among a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Hosts.” Then one of the seraphim flew to me, and in his hand was a glowing coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. And with it he touched my mouth and said: “Now that this has touched your lips, your iniquity is removed and your sin is atoned for.” Isaiah 6:5-6

Thank you for warming my heart and my spirit with these tones and words of assurance.

I was reading 2 Tim. 1:12 this morning. I had to look up this hymn written in 1883. The truths are eternal. I learned this Hymn in my youth at Hayden Avenue Baptist Church in East Cleveland. I have not thought about the words in this hymn until today after reading the scripture the hymn writer had in mind. To God be the glory.
@jamesreed75283 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the same reaction to the hymn that I had at the age of 11, and studying the scripture passage later to get the full meaning. I take it to be the a statement of the personal covenant that the Apostle Paul had with God, and that we can have also if we accept His Grace, and follow accordingly.

"It's not what you know, it's who you know." that's what we say when job hunting, but it's also a foundational Christian truth. We can study an entire lifetime to try to discover who God is and how to reach him. But it all comes down to one question: Do we know Jesus? As POW during the Civil war, Daniel Whittle began reading the New Testament his mother had given him as he marched off to war, and he committed his life to Jesus Christ. After the war, Whittle was promoted to the rank of major and then became a successful businessman. In 1873 he began preaching in evangelistic services, and for a quarter-century he led revival throughout the United States. he also encouraged some of the leading songwriters of his time and wrote many hymns himself, including 'Showers of Blessing" and "Moment by Moment." Whittle penned this hymn in 1883, perhaps thinking back to questions he had asked during his imprisonment. There were still many things he didn't know, but he certainly did know Jesus. Written by: Daniel Webster Whittle: (1840-1901) Composed by: James McGranahan: ((1840-1907) I know who my Redeemer is! Blessings! Lynnae Larson

Thank you for this hymn, and as it says I know whom I have believed and I trust that He will keep all that I commit to against that day. Thank You, Lord Jesus for everything.

"Reavaling Jesus through the word, Creating faith in Him" this is a beautiful hymn. It means that the words represent Jesus. Thank you Jesus for love and mercy to us.

I have been going through a spiritual battle recently and in prayer as I awoke this morning God brought this old hymn to my mind and the scripture 2 Timothy 1:12 and then on to Hebrews 12:1 and then Philippians 3:12-14. Truly His grace is sufficient through everything and His Truth endures through all generations!

I read Saint John's writings about his fear that he would not stand firm under the persecution and frequent torture of Christians in the time following the death of Jesus Christ. After much anxiety he proclaims: 'I know now, I am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I've committed, unto Him against that day.' These writings were so inspirational X

Wow! I'm reading a book right now that is referring to 2 Timothy 1:12. I had no idea this hymn referred to an actual Bible verse! That's what I love about these substantive old hymns--so many Bible-based lyrics & messages!!

I tried the Calvinist way of repenting i.e. turning from all my sins to be saved. I couldn't do it... I was so miserable because I knew I was a sinner who was DEAD in trespasses and sins. But!!! There was one thing I could do and that was repent of my trying and start trusting! 0ct 18th, 1995 I got on my knees in a 2 bedroom trailer just south of Columbus Nebraska and I told the Lord I can't turn from all my sins but I can trust you and I believe what you did on the.Cross was for me... Folks that very second I felt the weight of my sin leave me and a peace from God himself overwhelm me and I've been telling lost sinners about it ever since! Sirs, what must I do to be saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved!
