Setting up the Huanyang VFD for my CNC

This is the follow up to the video where I setup my Spindle on my Onefinity CNC. In this video I show how to wire and program the VFD to work with the Onefinity controller using the breakout board. As noted in the video if you need to make program changes to the VFD you need to unlock it using PD000 settings first and then save the changes afterwards.

Fantastic video, thank you for making it!! I followed your instructions exactly and was getting a timeout error. Turns out the standoffs I had were a tiny bit too long, making the connection to the controller very touchy. Found some that were about 1mm shorter and worked like a dream. One other thing I saw a number of people mention is adding a ground. I just added a short ground wire to the breakout board and terminated it on the controller box which is then grounded to my home ground. No idea if it makes a difference but I guess it can't hurt.

I appreciate you documenting your CNC journey. All these videos will be very helpful when I save enough for my own CNC. I was pretty set on getting a onefinity, but the recently announced shapeoko 5 pro looks really nice, so I'm between the two. Cost would be roughly the same all things considered. Whichever way I go, I'll be adding a vfd spindle within a year after. Will your CNC setup be just as a hobby or will you be using it for a side hustle/small business? Looking forward to more of your CNC videos.

Hello! I need a female aviator connector that goes to my spindle and then the other end just wires to connect to the HY VFD. I can’t solder, so I need one already made up. Can anyone help me? Great video.

despite using the correct hex keys, I ended up stripping both heads so now I can't mount my 80mm spindle clamp. Looks like I have some drilling and tapping in my future....Even tried the ones at the top the Z mount and only 1 of those would break loose.

Hello, I have a Huanyang vfd and 2.2kw spindle 220 volts. I did not reset my vfd when I put in the settings from several videos. It worked except it would only go to 208 hertz. I reset it and now it goes to 400 hertz but the potentiometer does not work. Is there a setting I can change to fix it. TIA

I haven't used it out of Fusion yet, but so far yes it gets the RPM speed from the gcode. It'll give a screen prompt to start the cut once it reaches the correct speed.

Nice video, thanks for all the research on this topic. I followed your vid and wired mine however mine for some reason is rotating in reverse (must have wired it wrong somewhere any suggestions? I know I can hit the rev button but I have OCD and it needs to have the forward light showing and go in the right direction!

I’d have to grab the book but if the wiring is correct there are PID settings that will set it to rotate in the correct direction. I’d have the find the book first to let you know

I wonder if these vfd setting would work when using a xprov5 controller. I have tried different settings and watched a bunch of youtube videos,but have not found the correct settings for it.

Great instruction. While running a job that sets the spindle speed to whatever you programmed in the CAD program, is it possible to change the speed on the fly with the speed potentiometer knob?

Not once it’s programmed for the controller to start and stop it. If you wanted to adjust on the fly you’d have to leave it in the default setup

Hi…great videos… I’m coming from shapeoko pro and move to 1f. I can’t figure out how to have the 1f automatically turn off dust collection and the spindle after job is done or for tool changes. Thanks, I believe you’ll need an IOT relay for it to work. I’ve seen the process done, but haven’t connected it to my system yet. I might work on that after the holidays and create another video

Yes as @vanstay says. A breakout box to get to the pins on the back of the onefinity controller and connect that to the IOT relay to control a vacuum. This can control a router too but note the IoT relay product only handles 12A (Router and vacuum will exceed this). To get this to work you need a vacuum that turns on automatically with a tool load. You plug the tool in to the IOT relay and the IOT relay in to the vacuum. The IOT relay turning on the router will draw enough current that the vacuum will then switch on. For a spindle control, what was done in this video should do the trick.

Did you have to wire the VFD to it's own circuit? I've heard that the 110 v version can easily trip a 20 amp breaker.

I’m pretty satisfied with this. I do wish it came more cable ready since I’m new to wiring things like this, but it was the most affordable solution I found and lots of other people were using it so I had a potential support network. If I had the money back then I might have invested in the plug and play version for warranty reasons but otherwise I’m happy with this.

Hi VanStray During configuration for VFD I have problem to find P01, P02. I only got uP0, uP3, uP4, uP5, uP6. Sir, please telling me How to changing these uP code to P code in VFD CNC 6040Z 4 axist. When I tried to reset factory setting error 40 appear. Then unable to get P code again. Thank you sir

Are you using the same VFD I have in the video? I haven’t done a factory reset, but from what I’ve heard people had to reach out to the company support line and they were able to get them back to the right menu
