The Salmo Fire Lookout may be open for capmers this year. Reservations only but if you haven't been to the Lookout its walking distance from Salmo Basin trailhead. My neck of the woods 🦌 They had another fire since you were there. Area was hit very hard. Little secret in Settlers Cedar Grove take your Gold Pan. Not like i would break any laws lol their is Gold all over this area. Love this video my Mountain Wandering friends 🤟 We also shed hunt this area 🦌

Awesome video! A true adventure. Setllers Grove is one of my favorite stands of old cedars. Have not been there in years because the road was washed out. Looks like its open now. Your coverage of the storm was great! I'm always nervious to film in lightning storm. I feel like I'm taunting the lightning. Great camea work. Hike on!

The road in there is good. They were grading it when we were on our way in. I'm not sure that I've been in a lightening storm that lasted that long.

The dogs are great on a trip for many reasons. They offer quite a bit of security, but they also don't mind packing a little whiskey for me. The white dog is Solo. He's a German Wirehair.

We went to sleep listening to the storm and the thunder woke me up the next morning... knowing what we had coming on our hike... yeah, wasn't feeling it. Andy's commitment to cleanliness, is impressive!

After watching this again, I’m a bit inspired to make use of some of the Forest Circus roads in the Olympics. Some of them I don’t think are drivable and would be a way to avoid some of the crowds at some of the more popular destinations. There is some off trail stuff too, but during the winter, a pair of snowshoes/skis on an old FS road could get you some decent views with some solitude - and also good hammock hanging trees.

They are not meant for serious downhill, but if you want something that is more cruzy than snowshoes, especially when the downhill isn’t too crazy, you might find they fill a nice niche. They are located in Curlew, WA. They also have a KZbin channel.

This one was tough. On the last day of the hike I lost the mental battle and was getting frustrated at all of the downed trees. I think that this was the only trip in 2020 where I fell down.... and I fell down about 15 times on that trip.

I spent a lot of time in the Cabs and the Selway-Bitteroots a decade ago and came to expect that any non-main trail would be an adventure. I think that with more budget cuts, the "adventures" will grow. I wish I were there with you "suffering". :)

Lol. I'm a dog and cat owner. Both my pets are 14. I worry about them a lot. My dog wants to follow me while I hike and fish, but his paws get sore easily. The cat I can let out anywhere, she stays close to home, but will follow us if she thinks it is safe. God Bless you guys.

@@mountainwanderer I will be 63 in August. I'd be fishing and hiking now on the Upper Sacramento River near Castellabut for the essential travel requests, and the heat. 110 today in Redding, 112 tomorrow. I stayed home and bought some beer.

You're right, we didn't get a shot of that. Our dogs sleep on dog beds that we put under our tarps, next to our hammocks.

The early part of the trail, the first couple miles, gets maintained and you can't camp in that area. It's a beautiful trail through the cedars. Once you leave that area though, it gets rough quick.

Sadly the trail hasnt gotten any better since you made this video. It took 4 days to cut out 2 miles of trail 526 earlier this spring. Never made it back to finish it

I'm actually encouraged to hear anyone is giving that trail any love at all! Now I'm intrigued enough to go back up and check out that trail again... and bring a saw with me! Thank you for clearing some of the trail!

@@mountainwanderer you should check it out, im not sure if you were there before or after that big wind storm a couple years ago but it sure looks different after that. Most of that old growth by bobtail creek didnt survive. Hopefully it will get cut all the way through next year. Trail 140 is a good one also, its opened almost all the way to granite, little steep though.

@@mountainwanderer 140 is on the other side of murray at the bottom of thompson pass. Leaves out of barton creek/ granite gulch. Theres a sign for it on the highway. You can drive across prichard creek and park. Then you stay to the left of barton creek and the trail starts at the furthest back campsite. Its a neat trail, supposed to go all the way to granite peak according to the maps but i lost the trail about 3/4 of a mile from granite. Steep the whole way

Oh right! That is why that number was so familiar to me. I've seen about a hundred times going over Thompson Pass. We've thought about trying that one out, but I've heard the very same thing from other people - STEEP! Have you ever gone up to Evans Lake? Another one on the list, but we haven't been to yet.
