Proof of life from TBW, awesome! May I suggest the 3 keys to a good recovery. PT, PT and then some PT. No more and no less than they perscribe. I might also say, most folks on your channel don't care as much about getting videos while you recover and would much rather hear you are doing well :)

Oh boy do I relate to the nerve block wearing off !!!! I tore up my right rotator cuff twelve years or so ago. After surgery my wife and I had a wonderful afternoon on the deck eating lunch, felt great. Later that evening my wife took one look at me and said "we're headed back to the ER aren't we"? I couldn't get back to the ER quickly enough. As you found out WOW, when that nerve block wears off it certainly sets you back on your butt !!!!! I'm very glad to see that you are doing much better Andy. The PT will help out a lot. Four years ago I shattered both my patellas (kneecaps) but that's another whole story. LOL. I think you'll find that it's pretty easy from here through recovery. Take care Andy. 😃

A great surgeon can make a huge difference as you noted. I had ACL knee surgery 40 years ago. Uncommon back then as the ACL is not needed for ordinary day to day living. It is important when there is stress put on the knee such as doing some sport activities. Finally found a doctor who did this type of surgery, and he certainly did not seem like someone who was looking for patients so his wife could start planning their next overseas vacation. I had to make a promise that I would do the follow up PT. He said he had the easy part. I did not have full movement of the knee at first, but pretty close to it. There was a lot of gradual stretching of it multiple times a day. Within a year I was close to normal. Wore a knee brace when doing physical activities for a couple of years just to be safe, then switched to an over the counter knee brace since it was much smaller and less noticeable. After about 4 years I felt good enough to toss out the braces. Bottom line is a good surgeon, follow the PT, and thing should be fine in time.

Hey, Shoulder Arthroscopy (what you had done) is my entire profession. I take part in about 50 shoulder arthroscopy cases a week. Just to give you piece of mind, those pictures of the repair look really good. The "bone removal" is called a Subacromial Decompression, very common, almost every patient getting their shoulder scoped has it done. You had a biceps tenodesis, This relocates the long head of the biceps to the proximal humerus; ultimately removing a pain generator. And the bursectomy is just removal of adhesions that are between the rotator cuff and the acromion, this is also done with every shoulder scope, otherwise the surgeon wouldn't have any visualization.

Time Andy. Time is what is needed. I had bicep tendon re-attachment surgery about 13 years ago. 6" scar down my arm for it. It took me over 9 months to start trusting that repair. Now then, the nerve block and anesthesia? Yea...my nerve block never took, so I got pumped with a bit more of the knockout juice. Since I don't do a lot of sleeping thanks to Carpel Tunnel (arms below the elbows will fall asleep while laying in bed, and it REALLY FREAKING HURTS), along with chronic lower back pain, the drugs really hit me hard. Apparently it took them 2 HOURS to wake me up post surgery, about 90 minutes longer than they expected. LOL. Best sleep I had in YEARS. LOL... As for the Restless Leg Syndrome. OMG YES! It was HORRIBLE. I was given Lortab for the pain (and yea, needed that stuff for the first 2 or 3 days). Back then they didn't use pain pumps, or ice wraps for this, and yea, I had to sleep in the lay-z-boy for the first 5 to 7 days. IT SUCKED BAD. I remember trying to sleep and my legs just bouncing, itching, feeling like something was inside of them. My wife thought I was crazy. I was pacing the floor instead of sleeping because I couldn't sleep. The Lortab made me not care about pain, but the legs...OMG the legs. Finally went away, but holy wah I thought I was going to go insane. Glad to see you up and about, just take your time. Do what they tell you in PT and take it slow.

Hi Andy, totally agree with you on the nerve block, the pain is right up there once it wears off. I had my right shoulder done 6 months ago, and it's still tender. The secret is don't work it too hard and do the physio. You need to let it heal on its own. They say it takes up to a year. Cheers and a pain free recovery from Australia.

Now the main reason I am writing is to wish you a speedy recovery from your surgery I am sure you will do fine. Thanks Again

Nerve block = a trick to get you away from doctors before pain sets in. Your description of repairs confirm your level of pain. Sometimes it is good to say "better living through chemistry". I slept in my chair for near 3 months. At the time of your recording the way your swinging your head around, you are doing well. Agreed confidence in your doctor is good. Do not exceed limits set by doctor and physical therapist.

I have had a total shoulder replacement, as well as a knee and a hip and the other shoulder will be replaced this fall. My best advise is to do exactly what the PT prescribes as far as stretches and exercises go and DON'T do any "extra" reps or anything because your shoulder feels good. I over did the exercises after my knee replacement to the tune of doing 10x more reps then they wanted (100 instead of 10) because it didn't hurt and I wanted to recover faster. I hurt so bad the morning after I did that, that I had to go to the emergency room for industrial strength pain killers, they estimated I set my recovery back by 4-6 weeks because I couldn't do ANYTHING with that arm for weeks and it atrophied even more. Do EVERYTHING they want you to do but NOTHING MORE. Good luck.

Good to see it went well for you. Got mine done 5 years ago and my business partner just got his done in January. You aren't kidding about the 1 to 100 on the pain scale, when that nerve block wears off. As other's have posted, follow the PT religiously and DON'T overdo it. You're going to anyway but you've been warned. You're shoulder will give you a few whacks upside the head, to let you know.

So happy that surgery went well. You did have me laughing however, I remember very well when my nerve block quit...abruptly! PT will kick your ass, don't try to get everything back right away. Plan on 6 months, at least, before you feel OK again. Most folks, including myself and my wife, noted one year for a complete recovery. Be kind to yourself.

My Hubby had the OVO. The recovery is taking a little longer because of the way they cut with the muscle. The ice machine was a huge help! No more pain tho! He thought that he had a neck problem too but after the surgery he has had no issues 🤷♀️. Prayers for you and your healing!!!

My nerve block wore off on the drive home from surgery. I was rocking back and forth and sweating in agony for an hour until i got home to my meds and took two oxycodone…almost instant relief. Im almost one year out from surgery and pain free. FYI there is a second phase of pain that comes many weeks after the surgery pain subsides. In all aspect it’s a year of your life. Still trying to get strength level back to pre surgery level. Im not sure i will ever be able to do pull ups or heavy chest presses again. I have almost full range of motion now. Working with dumbbells to get strength and they’re great. Take the PT seriously and don’t push it. Good luck with your recovery.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I had basically the same thing done in January 2013. The therapy was not a cakewalk. When they started stretching my shoulder my knees would buckle because it hurt so much. BUT it hurt so good. Like others have said, do what the therapist tells you. My outcome has been great. I have full motion and strength with extremely minor residual pain. Basically, when I'm doing some things I know that my shoulder has been worked on but it does not inhibit me at all.

Great progress report. I will give you a story that may give you hope. My son in law, just had is 50 th. He is a professional dancer and message therapist. A few months ago he was in a major car crash that shattered the ball of his shoulder. The dr’s told him that after surgery he would only be able to lift his arm parallel to the ground. It would make it impossible to do his jobs. Today he has almost full range of motion and is back to teaching dance and his massage business. It is due to his drive to prove the dr’s wrong, going way beyond what the PT people wanted him to do and is knowledge of physiology. You will recover as much as you want tp push yourself to recover. Go luck and work hard

I am glad to hear that the surgery went well. I had knee replacement surgery last year. The full recovery is a long run when they mess with the a joint. PT is definitely not fun. Like with the surgery, the physical therapist you work with matters a lot. Although a shoulder is a lot different than a knee, push as hard as they allow in the physical therapy. Good luck with the recovery.

Had a torn labrum repair with biceps tenodesis (severed the long head biceps tendon from the shoulder blade and anchored it to the inner upper humerus. I had a short recovery mainly due to the pre-op PT I did to strengthen my scapula and stabilize my shoulder. My results were positive but only lasted about 8 years. Anyways...glad you seem to be recovering well. On a different note, would you please consider doing a video about using PVA in between coats to cure each coat and adding wax on the final coat vs multiple coats w/wax (and sanding between coats)? Specially, how soon after spraying the gelcoat do you spray the PVA or what do you look for in the sprayed gelcoat to signal when to seal with PVA? Thanks, and best wishes on your recovery! Do the PT work but don't try to do too much too fast. Doing the job right is far better than just doing it fast, but you already know that.

Hey look, your condition won't last long so you NEED to practice groaning and looking sick. This will help with the sympathy angle. You should be able to moan a little now and then and have a fresh cup of coffee brought to you. Maybe even a doughnut or two or a slice of warm apple pie, the newspaper...just all sorts of things. Don't let on that you're getting better for awhile. Ask your wife some kind of a question (could be anything). Then 15 minutes ask her again. Do this 8 or 9 times. Keep her guessing. Seriously, I am glad things went well for you. The reason I subscribed to your channel was because I began building a boat and a learned a TON of fiber glassing stuff from you.
