The death of Tsar Eliabeth and her replacement by a Prussophilic successor came to be known in Prussia as *the miracle of the House of Brandenburg* , because it saved Prussia from imminent defeat. Without it, Prussia would've lost the war and had to give back Silesia, turning them back into a second-rate European power, which in turn would have drastically altered the history of Germany.

@GardEngebretsen7 жыл бұрын
1503nemanja The correct term would be emperor (imperator) or empress in Elisabeth's case, but they were commonly referred to as Tsars and Tsaritsa in Russia. Tsarina is a germanicized version of Russian for "emperor" which is kind of strange (origin is Latin "caesar", russified to "Tsar", and germanicized to "kaiser". Empress in German is Kaiserin.

Truly groundbreaking event. Its results radically changed the shape of the world. USA because an independent nation, France abandoned monarchy and became a republic (and set an example for other european countries which followed sooner or later), Poland (my country) was partitioned and trust me, that's one of major reasons why many Poles hold grudnge against Russia and Germany which they consider their great enemies. Also Poland was the second country after USA that declared itself a constitutional republic after its last failure with monarchy. Other than that, results of this war later led of british conflict with China (opium war) and later boxer rebellion.

There are some papers that suggest that the Seven Years war and its results had no effect on the US war of Independence at all. I haven't looked into it myself, but there's some pretty strong opinions on the matter
@jnes6247 жыл бұрын
well those papers are wrong.. if there was no war then Britain wouldnt have started taxing the colonies, simple really..
@kampase7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, maybe saying it had no effect whatsoever was a bit of an overstatement, but the Seven Years war's effects on the American war for Independence were definitely overstated. Taxation was only one factor contributing to it, and I think the lions share of the political sentiment for independence came from politicians and landowners who wished to use it for monetary gain

The Prussian service was considerably worse than the English. The life that the private soldier led was a frightful one. Punishment was incessant, and every officer had the right to inflict it. The gauntlet was the most common penalty for minor offenses. The more serious ones were punishable by mutilation or death. At the close of the Seven Years' War, the army, so renowned for it's disciplined valor, was officered by native Prussians. But it was composed, for the most part, of men from the lowest levels of humanity. Hired, or stolen from almost every nation in Europe.

There should probably be a French and Indian War video as the war is significant in the changing attitude of the colonist. Here in the United States, the French and Indian War and the Seven Years' War is taught separately yet related. In discussing the American Revolution, the colonist complained that it had been them who had protected themselves with little help from the British from the French and Indians, yet the colonist had to pay taxes to ease Britain's debt for an international war the colonist had nothing to do with.
@jnes6247 жыл бұрын
there were more british regulars than french regulars, they did exactly what they needed. i hear americans claim the weirdest things in regards to history, must be your education system. btw british citizens payed way more in taxes than colonists ever did.

While certainly impressive, the Prussian war effort wasn't quite as spectacular as it might appear on a map; the only enemy Frederick II ever really had to worry about was the Austrians. Allow me to explain: The Swedish and Russian commanders were EXTREMELY timid during this war. The Swedes literally never advanced beyond their initial front lines at all, while the Russians would only conduct minor operations and raids (such as the brief occupation of Berlin in 1760) when and only when the Prussians were mainly engaged elsewhere. In the cases of both of these northern powers, any gains that were made during campaigning would be immediately abandoned when the troops would march back to their winter quarters that were very unnecessarily far away (just as an example, the Russians would literally march eastward all the way across Poland to get to their winter quarters at the end of every campaign season), thus always insuring that any actions these two countries made would be immaterial in the end. Prussia's "war" against France was a joke, mainly because 1. The French leaders decided at the beginning of the conflict to place greater emphasis on colonial theaters than the continental theater and 2. The few troops and resources that France DID allocate to the continental theater were all directed against the German state of Hanover, which was a duchy of the Holy Roman Empire that the British King, George III, happened to be the ruler of. French and Prussian forces only fought against each other once during the whole conflict, and while it is true that the Prussians won this engagement (known as the Battle of Rossbach) it was nowhere near as damaging to the French as some sources might lead you to believe (in a letter to his sister Frederick literally admitted that the battle meant nothing strategically). That leaves the Holy Roman Empire and Austria. Seeing that the army of the Holy Roman Empire was small, poorly commanded, ill-disciplined, and not well-supplied (and was practically an extension of the Austrian forces anyway), they posed literally NO threat at all to Prussia. Austria, on the other hand, was the only true enemy that Frederick faced. They had a large army that was experienced from the previous War of the Austrian Succession (in which, I might add, they contended with France, Prussia, Spain, Bavaria, and Saxony all at once, which was far more impressive than the Prussian war effort during the Seven Years' War) and had the will to both liberate Saxony and recover Silesia from the enemy. While it must be conceded that Frederick did a good job in holding off their onslaught for most of the war, he was clearly beaten by the end of the conflict and was only saved by the unexpected death of the Tsarina Elizabeth and the subsequent withdrawal of Russia (and, consequently, Sweden) from the war, which heavily demoralized the Austrians as they would now have to beat an opponent that was sucking the resources of lands like Saxony and Poland dry and turning them against a single foe. So while the Prussians certainly put up a good fight during the war, their achievements are NOWHERE near as impressive or noteworthy as they might seem :)

You really bring down credibility of this show by calling the Commonwealth as simply Poland.
@JabzyJoe8 жыл бұрын
+1MuchButteR1 I got called out on the video on the Partions of Poland for the same thing. But, I'm going to defend myself here, despite being fully aware that your thumbnail is the Lithuanian Coat of arms. The event is called the Partitions of Poland and using the same terms makes it easier for viewers to do any further research. Plus, at the time, the Commonwealth called itself things like the 'Most Serene Republic of Poland' and in the West they'd usually just say Poland. I'm guessing due to the fact the leaders were the Kings of Poland and the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, Ruthenia, Kiev, Livonia etc. So I see it as pretty interchangeable. Sort of like how you can say Bosnia instead of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Great Britain instead of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Austria instead of Austria-Hungary, Sao Tome instead of Sao Tome and Principe or China instead of the People's Republic of China (as opposed the Republic of China).
@1MuchButteR18 жыл бұрын
Jabzy It was called the partitions of Poland because Polish bureaucrats devolved the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in 1791, and the so called Poland was annexed in 1795. For 99% of its history the official name was the Commonwealth of Kingdom of Poland and Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Both regions were extremely autonomous, so please don't make silly mistakes and name things accurately.
