Props to the engine officer, he really rolled with the punches switching to defensive without even missing a beat after the first explosition. Didn't even need a break in the report to dispatch

Hearing the explosions, this is one of those OMG fires "Gotta think." For me, my OMG, we rolled up on a scene. From left to right, a rectangular house, fully involved, attached carport with two vehicles, fully involved. a VERY large stack of hay bales and a barn, also fully involved. Where to start? From previous hay bale fires, I knew that we would have to pull that sucker apart to fully pull it out, but first, we attacked the house, then the car port, then the barn, saving the hay for last.

This reminds me of a structure fire I was on, a couple years ago. We were on scene about 30 minutes, fully involved structure, and had propane tanks going off. I asked the homeowner how many were in the garage. He said, about 4 or 5, after probably the 7th one went off. We were already full on defensive attack, and doing structure protection on the neighbor's house. Propane tanks going off left and right, didn't exactly make that any easier. We had two deck guns going and a blitzfire on the ground, going into the garage. My department believes in big fire, big water. Bad to worse, happens very fast. Always be prepared.

When responding to a call ALWAYS EXPECT FIRE. As a volunteer of 35yrs I've seen too many fire alarm activations get treated haphazardly. Especially trouble alarms. Fortunately more often than not there's no fire just a malfunction or such. However I've seen them actually having a working fire. Always expect fire, a great lesson for the volunteer services.

As some others I was also wondering why not use a wide nozzle spray. Not being trained I had no idea there was a reason for the procedure. Thanks for the answers, now I understand something new to me. In your other videos, you described clearly what different colours of smoke meant, how to notice where it comes from, and most important how deadly that stuff is. A civilian like me would die if I tried to help with no protection equipment. I might be helpful with being a 'gofer', or holding the smallest line from a safe distance, but that's it. On top of the lessons you taught; staying calm is the most important.

it’s also more than bad info: it could easily be extension. i have seen countless fires that started as grass or trash fires become structural in the few minutes between call and response. and this is with two engines and two ladders and chief three and four minutes out. not joking either: three and four alarm fires caused by trash on fire that extended to porches lighting them up causing neighboring porches to ignite. this happened multiple times 30 years ago in my hometown on the same three block stretch of houses in close proximity.

Completely off topic but I just got confirmation that I got accepted into an internship program with a nearby fire department! Had the interview last thursday and received the news that I was accepted yesterday afternoon! So so so excited and glad I found your videos to help me work through whether firefighting was actually for me and how to go about answering the really bland and basic but really hard to answer interview questions that I was asked. My brain was running at 400mph but I was still able to give coherent enough answers in order to get accepted! This is going to change my life for the better and really give me something to work hard towards. The last 3-4 years of my life, i've just been a sitting duck waiting for something to happen and then I more or less realized it wasn't going to happen on its own. So anyways, thank you for the helpful tips you've provided!

Great video, command presence and all involved were very professional. That’s why taxpayers pay us the bucks. Only comment I will make and it’s more for safety and can’t say whether or not they did it here but pause a little bit and evaluate the structure before making an interior attack on a structure weakened by fire, explosions and the weight of the water. The roof did not appear to be burned off and mutifamily love putting the heating and air compressors in the attic spaces in the hallways. Those are usually just suspended by strapping and fall relatively quickly in fires.

I don't know if you have them over there is a F.LI.R gun is a great tool for anything even search and rescue and it picks up body heat im pretty sure. And i don't know how many he had there but quick way to get everyone back to the truck is either siren,horn or quick decrease of water pressure as you'll look back to see whats wrong. A good one to do is always get dispatch to ask further info from caller we do that here as first call most times is panic.

Hey I just wanted to ask if you’d could do a video on the carnival cruise ship that caught fire today May 26th. It’s a pretty interesting fire.
@Heff1622 жыл бұрын
I have a question, I’m wondering why it seems that most times when firefighters are entering a structure to extinguish the fire, they keep the fog nozzle on the straight stream option. I was taught in my class that water droplets cool and expand some 1,700 times the size of the original droplet when put on a fire, therefore making the more number of specific water droplets more effective at extinguishing the fire. So I’m just wondering why most times they don’t switch to a slightly more wide option of stream to maximize the number of water droplets hitting the fire. It seems the straight stream option would make it more difficult to quickly extinguish a large area of fire.
@jennifertimberlake65222 жыл бұрын
I have always wondered this too because every fire I have put out have gone out faster with a wider "rain" spray than a thin high power spray
@dillannokes52062 жыл бұрын
I guess it just depends on the firefighters personal experience and the way the are viewing how the fire is reacting to the water
@lookingglass91752 жыл бұрын
Both will put out fire and each have unique differences and applications. Going into a working fire I want the penetrating effects of a straight stream.
@Namerer2 жыл бұрын
3 things, fog nozzles produce to much air flow, straight stream makes bigger water droplets which do a better job at putting fire out, you can steam and kill some one doing that. Im not sure where this idea of small little droplets put out more fire, but straight streams and smooth bore streams but straight streams put out more GPM’s and GPM’s put out fire.
@eldoradoboy2 жыл бұрын
@@Namerer agreed! streams also go further.. the hotter the fire the more water you are going to lose in the heat before it ever reaches the fire.. if trying to cool a place down fog does the job but wont put out much fire unless its nearby.. streams have a long reach... lets the firefighters stay as far away fro mthe fire as possible and still put it out (which will also cool the room).. seems like these guys did the right thing.. was easy to see the fire was everywhere esp firther into the room..
