I used to make doll clothes and toddler clothes with my scraps. I've also saved smaller scraps to use for stuffing poufs and toys. I love the idea for patch working garments and will be doing some pattern hacking to achieve some interesting looks. One of my most treasured possessions is a crazy quilt made by grandmother and her siblings probably sometime in the 1900's. It's made up of many different types of fabrics. Great vlog and certainly makes us think outside the box!

This was fun thinking about what to do with scraps. I usually cut them into rectangles or squares and then box them up and bring them to the thrift store. Soooooooo many people love those for their crazy quilts, color blocking etc. I'm not good coming up with ideas on my own, but I can usually find patterns that I can change into the garment I want. Thank you so much!

Great episode. I love using scraps, as you say it makes a creative & very individual garment. I’ve made lots of bags & purses using scraps & some clothes which I want to do more of.

The E&M 24/7 top is a good scrap-buster too. I love that the back can be made of a woven.

When I was a child my neighbour was a seamstress and she would give me her scraps to make doll clothes so I would recommend doing something similar if you know a child who has that interest or it might spark that interest. Also donating scraps to childcare centres, scraps become awesome art projects. Kids just love to glue anything to paper. My daughter is a multimedia artist and uses fabric scraps in her art work.

Wow so many buds on your jasmine! We’re quite a bit behind but I’m looking forward to mine. Scraps are problematic so thanks for the encouragement and inspiration to use them. I’ve also got into making my own hankies after paying a fortune for Liberty ones.

Hi Kirsten, this was such an inspirational vlog...thank you so much 😁👌. I now want to raid my scrap draw 😋. I have the Scout Tee pattern, which I love and now excited to try that with scraps. I have also had the peppermint patterns boxy top in mind to get for ages and you have just reminded me about it...so thanks again for that Kirsten 👍. Happy scrap busting 😁💕✂😘

One of the garments in your slide show at the end was referred to as "collage" rather than patchwork. That really elevates it to a work of art! For me, the ones that really worked had careful placement of an anchor fabric, making it cohesive and intentional. Thank you for all your research in putting together this video. Well done!

Thank you for making this video. As I was cutting my first Blackwood cardigan I felt so guilty about all the leftovers so have searched for what to do with scraps and feel much better after watching your video. I’m very jealous of your Jasmine, my chooks free roam and haven’t let one mature yet 😂

Thank you so much for all those excellent suggestions! I was eyeing my scrap bag wondering should I really be saving those? What on earth am I ever going to use them for? Yet I hate to throw them out. Now I’ve got some ideas. And being a quilter for years, I have tons of woven pieces to use up.

Some wonderful ideas! I don't know if you know of Bernadette Banner, she has a wonderfully glorious page...used some of her scraps otherwise known as "Cabbage" as gift wrapping instead of using massed produced paper to some of her sewing friends and they loved it, she also used some of her cabbage to fill a Bustle pad she made instead of polyester filling. :) Fip.

Ooh love what you’ve done with the Autumn Spice! I’ve just made a short sleeved version out of some left oveR knits! I’ve just bought the Scrappy top with a view to using up my smaller pieces of knits left over from making summer tees. I like the Discover tee as well. Winterwear Designes Traveller Tee is a good one too and the front can be made from a woven!
