SEX AND THE CITY 𝓐𝓻𝓬𝓱𝓲𝓿𝓮𝓼

5 жыл бұрын

In this clip : Frances Sternhagen, Kristin Davis, and Evan Handler.
Clip Quote (0:34): "You, my dear, took a vow. And when things didn't go your way, you simply broke that vow. I come from a generation of women that valued marriage. We believed in "for better or for worse." Not "for better, or until the road gets rocky." When I think of the heartache and shame you caused my dear boy... I'm amazed that you could even come here and look me in the face."
About this clip: Bunny takes on Charlotte, breaking the rigorous distinction between the private and the public. Charlotte ultimately wins the case because of Trey's intervention owning the rights to the apartment over a coin collection.
Channel Subscriber CaliKola argues against Bunny's tirade: “You took a vow.” Yeah, and so did Trey. They agreed on kids and when it became clear that Charlotte couldn’t have one herself, Trey wouldn’t consider adoption because Mommy didn’t approve of a Chinese baby. He pulled the plug on having kids. That’s a complete dealbreaker, putting aside his myriad other issues- impotency, the Oedipus complex, should I go on?

What always annoyed me about this scene is that Trey should've been there in that room discussing the divorce arrangement like an adult and not have his mommy do it for him. Of course it is harsh to face that moment and accept you failed at your attempt of a marriage, I'm sure it hurts badly and it haunts you for years to come. But Charlotte seemed the only adult in that relationship who sat there accepting the consequences of her decision after trying and fighting to save her marriage. This scene truly showed whom did Charlotte really marry: Trey's mother. And you can't make a life with a mommy's boy unable to have his own agency and take responsibility over his actions. Charlotte felt for him because he matched all her ideals in a man, and she wanted to marry so badly she refused to see his mother was in between them taking decisions for him from the very beginning when they were still dating. I'm glad she finally found a man's man in Harry. He may not have been as dashing as Trey, but he was real and true to her.

It is so fitting that both Charlotte and Bunny wear such similar outfits and pearls almost to show how similar they are in their traditional values (family first) and strengths of character. It’s as if Bunny initiated Charlotte into the strong matriarchal role by being her antagonist and losing the apartment to her. The witch is dead, long live the witch and the witch in this case is a powerful woman.

Bunny is WAY too deluded. Her generation didn’t “Value” their vows of marriage. In the episode where Charlotte kisses the gardener, Bunny CLEARLY stated “Charlotte, you’re a McDougal now.” Bunny’s generation put up with marriage because they looked at it as if it was a job. Bunny’s dead husband gave her a comfortable life with money, that’s what she valued, not her marriage.

I may have hated Bunny (That Chinese food comment was so racist!), but I think that Charlotte was an idiot in the first place rushing into a marriage just because the guy looks cute. And even with red flags leading right up to the wedding day, she still did it. And people seem to forget about her little moment with her gardener, which she was outed in front of her husband. Her husband may be handsome, but his many issues (That little Oedipus thing with his Mom is so scary) spelled Doom for the marriage. He's a true Momma's Boy, a huge Red Flag.
@malena1258

Not just cute, but RICH. She was after husband, money and class. And yes, Bunny and Trey weren't perfect, but Charlotte was a simple gold digger. People say Carrie was the worst, but in similar situation she did the right thing - she returned the ring to Aidan. Charlotte never really loved Trey. She was a desperate woman who thought it's time to marry and have a baby because she was "too old". None of her actions on this relationship were genuine. Let's just remember how she almost cried because Trey didn't want to buy that expensive China. Above all, she thought she has all rights to stay in that apartment even though it wasn't even Trey's. She just wanted to control him like his mother. Seriously, Charlotte is so superficial and money obsessed. The worst character by far.

@@malena1258 your comment is interesting and has interesting points. But there is one important thing you didn't mention: Charlotte didn't behave that way because she was cynical and shrewd (as normal gold diggers are). On the opposite , she behave that way because she was stupid and naive. She was raised as a "good girl" who knows nothing about real life and who expects her life to have the scenario of a fairy tale. So when she met someone who looked like a prince charming she wrongly assumed "this is it, NOW it's happening" (the beginning of a perfect romance according to fairy tale scenario). It's like she was thinking in stereotypes (perfect first meeting and handsome man = perfect marriage and real love). She was simply delusional and out of touch with reality. (now that I think I realize that she and Trey really mirrored each other: a "good" boy and a "good" girl). Also her choosing a doctor with money was normal because she herself came from money. She was simply looking for a man from her social circle. That's not real gold-diggging, that's just normal and reasonable behavior.

I think my favorite part of this scene was seeing that smug look on bunny’s face drop at 1:32. She was so sure treys telegram would be him siding with mommy dearest and she’s shocked that he not only praised Charlotte as a good and blameless wife and straight up said he wants her to have the apartment but basically told her(bunny) off all in one sitting😁 it’s so satisfying that Trey finally stood up to his bitch troll mother and to see her disappointment that her little darling isn’t with her on this! A side note Charlotte could’ve unleashed on that bitter hag but instead she chose not to stoop to her pathetic level she handled the situation and ended it with absolute class and grace.

Bunny was the MIL from hell, but she wasn't totally wrong for her feelings towards Charlotte. Charlotte met Trey and coerced him (alrighty then) into proposing to her after only 3 weeks of dating. She then insinuated to Bunny at her and Trey's engagement party that she would pull out of the wedding if she didn't change the prenuptial agreement amount from $500,000 to a million dollars. Charlotte also was caught kissing the family gardener at their family compound because her husband had problems with intimacy. Once they did get back together after a brief separation, they decided to have a baby. It was implied that Trey suggested she quit her job. They struggled to conceive as Charlotte had fertility issues. They then finally separated and eventually divorced once Trey decided he didn't want to have a baby anymore. Trey then offered up the Park Ave family apartment which Bunny was particularly upset about. I'm not sure if children were ever discussed before they even got married because they rushed down the aisle because he was a doctor who came from family money. This is proof that you just can't marry for money or looks. Had they really gotten to know one another, she would have discovered they weren't compatible at all and that he was a mama's boy who never had any intentions of ever coming from under her thumb. This is my hot take.

Great take! I understand charlotte wanted children but the way she went about it would honestly make any man put the pause button. She made alot of the decisions without consulting with trey. No everyone wants a Chinese baby. And honestly, since I'm going down this road, I felt bad for bunny because this park avenue apartment was in the family for a very long time only for her to lose it to someone who couldn't make the marriage work for a year.

What I loved most about Charlotte was her sweetness and hopefulness, combined with her intelligence and toughness when she needed it. It took a lot to piss her off but when she did show that, it was usually deserved. Sure, I thought she was a bit unfair to Trey when she was in the midst of her "baby-crazy meltdown" 😮😂 but take for instance in the first movie - her reaction to Big in the street when he didn’t show up to the wedding. WOW was she strong. In that moment, I was shocked and impressed with her. And Big was shocked too. Charlotte had her flaws like all of us, but overall I liked that character a lot. ❤ And Harry is just a gem. I wish I could find a guy like him.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but is this not the same apartment that Charlotte and Henry STILL live? I'd be pissed if my ex-wife, her divorce-attorney-turned-husband, two kids and a bunch of Elizabeth Taylor-ish named dogs grew up and still were living in the same apartment ....STILL on Trey's dollar, ya know? Or am I wrong? You'd think Harry would feel weird living there, considering he makes good money. I remember that when she signed the ORIGINAL prenup she told Bunny she was "worth a million." But this whole apartment on Park Ave. for over a decade? Damn, that's quite the 2nd wedding gift and a LOT more than just $1 mil, Trey! Poor guy shouldn't have to pay his whole life because he loved him some Juggs.

The fact is.....BUNNY was the root of all the issues. Stuffing things down Chars throat, manipulating her son so in the end SHE gets what SHE wants...being judgemental and critical of Charolette and her abilities as a wife. FOR CHRIST SAKE...THE OLD BAG WAS IN THE BATHROOM WITH TREY AT ONE POINT WHILE HE WAS IN THE BATH!!! Trey giving Charolette that apartment and shutting his mother up was his way of letting Charolette know that he knew she tried...that she truly put her whole heart into their marriage to try and make it work...and that while exhausting herself to be the perfect wife for him and his family, she had to endure a lot of trials and treatment that were COMPLETELY unnecessary AND Uncalled for. This was his apology to her...because he knows she doesnt deserve to be treated that way. I just wish instead of a note, that we would have shown up JUST as C*nty was insulting Charlotte, give his mother the look of death and distain from the doorway and tell her something like "HOW DARE YOU SPEAK TO HER THAT WAY!"

Finally. Someone with some cognitive empathy for a change. Absolutely, from Bunny's perspective, Charlotte is just some woman who is trying to squeeze something out for profit. However, we were watching it from Charlotte's perspective, which made it impossible to understand where Bunny was coming from.

@sirbuffalo 3 жыл бұрын
@@sunfire5790 Be it as it may, you wouldn't want to give your pennies to a woman, who broke your son's heart, right? And, in Bunny's eyes, that's exactly what Charlotte happens to be. Just because we know how sweet and loving she was to Trey, doesn't mean, that Bunny perceived it that way. They obviously had a very bizarre relationship and Bunny has a very different worldview. You don't have to agree with her, but you can try to see things from her perspective to make better sense of her decisions.

Bunny is such a hypocrite. The marriage remains just on paper in many aristocratic families, my grandma married a rich banker from old money and they stayed married despite my grandpa cheating on her constantly, being abusive and even having a child with his mistress, here I remember Charlotte kissing the gardener and the women in that family welcoming her and laughing about it as cheating and having affairs was a family tradition, who knows how Bunnie behaved when younger. And I totally agree, staying in a dead marriage is toxic af.

If Bunny took marriage so seriously, she should have counseled them to pump the breaks because anybody would’ve seen (if given enough time) that Trey and Charlotte wanted different things in life. I think you can love somebody but that doesn’t mean they should be your person for life. Bunny is embarrassed about the affect this will have on Trey’s social status instead of being truly concerned about her son or his ex-wife. She does not really understand what happened in Charlotte’s marriage if she thinks it is just about Charlotte walking away because things got hard. She wanted different things than her son did and so they decided to be honest about that & go on with their lives. Charlotte did try to work it out and is using that desire Charlotte probably had to stick it out and pain that it wasn’t working to shame her. What a nasty lady.

I can't stand that ex mlw, it's women like her that make things harder for younger women and other women who simply want better for their lives and types like that mlw are just mad because they resigned themselves to dealing with the shit they got from their in laws and husband as "just life" or "doing your duty" but see that other women see that duty for what it is and are able to walk away from a situation that wasn't working. Charlotte clearly put in the work in that marriage, she did her part.

_"That's when Charlotte realized there was no such thing as a fairy tale divorce either."_ Well, you can't draw sweeping conclusions based on your own experiences alone; I hate people who do that, as if there aren't eight billion entirely unique people on Earth. There's no such thing _for her,_ but _my_ first divorce was _heaven_ for me. "Fairy tale" _marriages_ exist too, but are just extremely rare. No literal flying carpets or pumpkin carriages, but some couples really fall in unconditional love quickly and live harmonious lives together. Of course, one person's "fairy tale" is another's nightmare, and vice versa. Ultimately, any dynamic is possible between people who share the same ideal and are able/willing to do their part in fulfilling it. There's no mischievous spirit going around making sure that no one's dream comes true. Don't let anyone's sour grapes discourage you; hold out for someone who loves the way you know _you_ love.
