Big was selfish, emotionally inept, and way too old to be playing games the way he did. Carrie wasn't supposed to end up with that manchild. They were not meant to be, and I hate that the writers gave the audience what they wanted and brought them together at the end. It doesn't fit the narrative and also teaches people that you should settle for someone who puts you through hell for years before they actually get serious about the relationship and commit to you. The series could have ended so well, with Carrie finally accepting that she's enough and not needing any man to rescue her.
@eirinistalos4 жыл бұрын
It is not about, waiting for someone your whole life. The series, told us about being unable to forget the one person you really love. I don't say that he was the perfect man, but he was the one. That is why she could not get married to Aidan, but she proposed herself to Big. I agree with you, that it is better to live by yourself, but only not to enforce yourself to be with someone who don't love. To be with the person that you will always love, is another story
@humanormachine29364 жыл бұрын
@@eirinistalos I hear you, but at a certain point, it becomes toxic to stay involved with someone who can't give you what you want in a relationship, but continues to weasel their way into your life. Big was allowed to do this because they both had a lot of emotional issues and Carrie never set a proper boundary with him. The last episode, where Big finally settles for Carrie after 6 years of dating other women and 1 marriage, is portrayed as romantic when it's actually incredibly depressing. It's almost like gaslighting on the part of the writers. The reason most people accept that ending is because he's rich and handsome, and he's "rescuing" Carrie from an unsatisfactory relationship. It's sad because in the previous episode, she finally said what needed to be said to him, she just didn't stick to her guns. In the real world, men like him don't change and it wouldn't have been the happy ever after that followed in the two subpar films.
@eirinistalos4 жыл бұрын
@@humanormachine2936 I totally agree with everything you said. Usually, such kind of relationships are toxic and disastrous. But sometimes, people need an extra chance, especially in such cases. You see, even though Carrie told Big that she had moved on with her life (when she was with the Russian), the time she spent in Paris being lonely, she did not think of her boyfriend's absence, but of Big. In very few times, those toxic people, might be given their last chance.

I never got it either. The main thing I hear people say about Carrie is that she is self centered. She is the central character and the protagonist of the series so it's natural that the story revolves around her. The show was designed to see situations mainly through her eyes. Sometimes the focus shifts but most of the material she gathers is for her column so her inner monologue before she writes her column is explored..so I don't see her as being self centered as the show is designed to center on her ( carries) self.

Lmfao Carrie is extremely selfish: 1. Sent Aidan to help Miranda who happened to be NAKED on the bathroom floor 2. Refused to help Miranda after she got LASIK, citing her column deadline. 3. Called Big to Aidan’s country house, aka the man who she cheated on with the other man, with no warning. 4. Went to see Miranda with bagels just to rant about Aidan. 5. Ditched Miranda for drinks because Big was making veal?? 6. Intensely slut shamed Samantha on many instances 7. Burst into Charlotte’s house and demanded why she didn’t help her out of the immense financial mess she had put herself in 8. HIT BIG IN THE NOSE, and didn’t let him sleep after, just because she couldn’t sleep. She ended this argument with “wow maybe I should hit you more” as a joke. 9. Let’s not forget the cycles of cheating - sleeping with Big when with Aiden, kissing Aiden when married to Big. 10. Shadowed over Charlotte’s engagement to Harry with her stupid post-it breakup story. She’s not flawed. She’s a terrible, self-centered narcissist. Nobody is hating her because of her flaws, people hate her because she never seems to have a character arc of becoming a better person.

Thats bullshit. Its this kind of thinking why some girls stick with their emotionally unavailable and emotionally abusive partner who treats them like shit. The women have this delusion that "he really does love me, hes just scared of his emotions." So the poor girl sticks around, putting herself in the situation to continue to be treated like shit, hoping that one day he will all of a sudden open his eyes and realize the "love" he has for her. Lifes not a disney movie. Big didnt want carrie and was just using her as his play thing until he found someone to meet his standards. The sooner women accept that some men will use them as a place holder until he meets someone he really wants , the sooner these women can cut the guy off in his tracks, block and delete and move on from these user loser men.

🙄when they first started dating, Carrie was deeply insecure, manipulative and childish. She would pick fights with him over nothing and always wanted her own way. She felt entitled to meet his mother even though he made it clear he wasn’t ready for that. Carrie made a big stink about it and dumped him. Then she stalked Natasha like a psychopath.

Believe it or not, women like to dress classy to this day because they like the style. Just go look at department stores where women’s clothes are sold, a lot of classic and nice clothes. Even women who have business careers, dress neat and classy.
@crystalcastillo75753 жыл бұрын
Jeanette Marie she’s not talking about that. I think the woman was referring to the Oedipal complex & in psychology where men who are emotionally unavailable can trace that to the attachment styles that their parents created , it’s either the mommas boys (no one will ever be as good as their moms, hence they chase after women who resemble their mothers in physical characteristics or personality wise) or they use women who look like their moms b/c their mothers were there “first heartbreak” or bullies. The Oedipal complex is created by The incredibly sexist Freud but it’s interesting no doubt. but yeah, I agree with your clothing comment. I think women should dress however the hell the want! Hope my comment helps.

I always thought that Natasha is basically like Charlotte. Poeple discuss that 'she is a simple girl', 'beige-boring' and 'a snatch wife' in the comments. But honestly Natasha can be anyone as a person, we just never see her inside HER life. But everything we see makes her really Charlotte-like person. They are both very classy, from wealthy families, well mannered, well behaved, modern princess-like women. They even have similar dark long hair. And coincidence or not - it is Charlotte who reads the column about Natasha's wedding with Carrie. And it is Charlotte who catches Carrie cheating and copares herself and Natasha while calling Carrie out for cheating. And their first marriages are similar - rushed, inside upper class, short.

Never is a strong word - especially if you’re under 100 years old. I can’t speak for you, but I got over being dumped and replaced by the person I thought was the love of my life. I didn’t realize until a decade later he was the love of my life until that point. Your life is long if you’re lucky- I thank every guy that ever rejected me because it put me in a place to be with my husband.

It’s so sad how Carrie is trying to play her pain off when her friends can clearly see she’s hurting. Charlotte is great here she really is. Big and Natasha was such a dull match but that’s what men like until they realize they are living in domestic hell. Then that’s when the cheating starts smh… Carrie didn’t have to pick Aiden but damn I wish she wouldn’t have picked Big.

The woman he married was actually the unlucky one. With these types of men, the wife is always the unlucky one to be lumbered with someone so unpredictable and cold. The other sad fact is… its a myth that most men marry the woman they ‘love’. They marry the most submissive easy to control ones who will sacrifice the most for them, so it’s very misunderstood by a lot of women sadly and they end up hurt thinking he loved the other woman more. Not always true.

@@eve3363 Its not the same place. Before NY was bustling, it was incredible restaurants, clubs, museums, boutiques and everything in between. It was light and safe and noisy and active. Now its dark, shuttered store fronts, ugly outside dining made of unpainted wood sitting off the sidewalk, its random attacks, its homeless drug addicts all over the upper west side. Its a subway you cannot use in fear of someone throwing you on the tracks or slicing your face (they are not even robbing you anymore they attack just because) its innocent people being beaten to death with a rock by some stranger as you walk down the street. Its the city opening drug centers around the city so people can get high without repercussion, its a bunch of people taking over Washington Square Park to have a party where there is drugs, open sex acts and attacks. In short its a mess no decent person would want to live in for very long. NYC lost its splendor and glamor but not its high rents.

I grew up believing I could be a writer, and be able to afford a studio apartment in Manhatten, have a glamorous lifestyle, own a 150 pair of shoes worth 400$ or more, go on brunches with drinks, have sugar, alchohol and carbs 3 times a day and stay skinny even without any workout.... and go out with many many handsome guys whenever I wanted. Tell me if its any less than a Percy Jackson or Harry Potter fantasy.

Big was good looking and rich. Everyone likes guys like this, everyone And let’s remember that toxicity makes people more attractive, not less. So he is very, very attractive. And we fall for them and inevitably suffer. Carry is such a relatable character, that’s why we love to criticise her. And Sarah’s Jessica Parker did very good, she didn’t try to make the character more likeable, just more realistic which made automatically more annoying too.
