Raf Vallone was not only a multi-talented actor of international proportions on the world stage, and an acclaimed professional athlete (footballer) but an anti-fascist patriot in the Italian resistance during WWII. He was captured but escaped by swimming across Lake Como. Who can forget his Cardinal Lamberto in Godfather III?

Dad, I don't remember if we watched this together but it does look like someting we would have enjoyed. You sitting in your old chair, smoking your pipe, supping your tea. I miss you so much, Dad. If you and mum hadn't taken me from my 'mother' and that sorry excuse of a father, Lord knows what I would have become. I only hope I have made you both proud of what i made of my lfe.

Madigan I remember! So Good! Richard Widmark, never did a bad movie. Over-acted a bit but so did all the mafia guys who tried to copy him?

The USN ship at the beginning looks like the (taken from Wikipedia) USS Puget Sound (AD-38) was a Samuel Gompers-class destroyer tender, the second ship of the United States Navy to bear the name Puget Sound. The keel was laid 15 February 1965, and she was launched 16 September 1966. Commissioned 27 April 1968, she served almost 29 years until decommissioned on 27 January 1996. She was berthed at Naval Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility (NISMF) Philadelphia, Pennsylvania until April 2008 at which time she was sold to ESCO Marine, Brownsville, Texas for recycling and transferred under tow to that facility. The scrapping project was completed in February, 2009.

Uncommonly good for TV, of any era. I tried episode one and it was 100% cliche. Not this one.

The series was never as good as the movie. It just didn’t have the same flavor and good intense quality and sub quality stories. Especially when they had stories outside the U.S. Besides everyone knew, the character was killed in the original movie.

I saw Richard Widmark walking on the street in Paris in 1958. In those days actors in Europe expected privacy so I never approached him for an autograph.

Ridiculous plot. An American detective just breaks into a Mafia kingpins house but in the 60s it was fun and Madigan, like Kojak and all the 60s detectives, were invincible to any reality but hell we loved our super dicks! Lol....love the character but my what a stretch.
