I really liked the book. I think the show nailed the political machination aspect of the story and through two episodes unlike many adaptations it feels like a benefit having read the source material. Yabu (my fav character from book) was excellent. But yeah I’m pretty ecstatic.

William Adams was not Portuguese he was English. He and his brother were Navigat On a Dutch ship. This Was theJapanese had seen anyone who was not Portuguese Priest. Therefothe the only Language the Japanese had Any experience of other than their own tJapanese was Portuguese *This was the1st ttim they saw "White"Northern Europeans- Hence hhe said "what are they?"

Thank you for the info! Keep the knowledge coming! All I knew was William Adams spoke multiple languages including English but because he was around the Portuguese and the Japanese there is no reason English would actually be spoken on the show

When he is speaking “English” it’s an actually Dutch in the world. In the show no English is spoken. So when you hear English it’s either Dutch or Portuguese from a story standpoint.

@yedwards6428 This is a time of complete chaos, where There is no real dominant power, or language Spoken, but The ship had more Dutch, so Dutch would be Spoken . Spain and Portugall had been Internationally Operating for only 50 years * it's Really the most exciting time in History(Internationally), because the British east India Company Started in 1600 and the Dutch East India company in 1606?The Protestants were fighting wit the French in India, to dominate trad *British settled Jamestown(1606), In what Would be USA Later, The Spanish and Portuguese were in South America

@@Rowlph8888 yeah I was just saying it’s mostly Portuguese when you hear English but the sailors from the 1st ship speak Dutch. The main character speaks Dutch and Portuguese.
